  1. Stereo seperation/width makes a really big difference when it comes to mixing. So I'd advice you to play around with that, Maximus+Wave candy works well for that in my experience (and comparing with similar songs). Rough visualization of stereo seperation: Hopefully somewhat useful.
  2. Oh sweet, it wasn't in the FF9 description so I missed it, I already listened to 7, gonna listen to 10 and 6 as well.
  3. Nice arrangements, FF8 medley planned? The making of video was cool to see as well.
  4. Nice melody and beat, energizing and happy song. The bass at 2:46 sounds neat. Fun to listen to.
  5. Thanks a lot for your comment, I made the changes to the best of my abilities, it might be lacking in some aspects instead now I'm not sure. v.2 http://tindeck.com/listen/wamqj - added pre-delay on the instruments that are supposed to be further back. - made brass louder. - gave the percussion more reverb (the marimba/xylophone might be dry still not sure). - changed the eq on some higher frequency instruments. - lowered percussion eq on low end (3-450 hz~). - made stereo seperation tighter for bass and mid, seperation wider for highs. - lowered the total mids volume slightly. - slight compression for bass volume. - different warmth/tube settings I think than previous version (SO MANY VERSIONS). I think that's the changes I did, or most of them at least.
  6. https://soundcloud.com/williamthurin/nanatsu-no-taizai-1st-op-netsujou-no-spectrum-orchestral-remakecover Very much looking for critique, especially on bass levels, panning, instrument volumes and stereo image. edit: source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zp7oY1JhUj8
  7. The drums sound good but the lead/melody could pop a bit more, it's kinda drowning in the rest I feel. The melody instruments sound a bit weak compared to the rest as well to me. I think you found a good balance with instrumentation. You could always try a vst that increases saturation / warmth / brilliance like Pultronic EQ110P and/or FAT+ I use both and it makes a huge difference with low effort but if you want the song to be more backgroundy then it's good the way it is. I think it'd sound really neat with PS1 instruments cause it has that old school JRPG sound. Aside from the melody instruments which might just be me I like it.
  8. Yeah that's probably it, I did decrease the panning range cause the strings were too far left but I should've increased the other instruments panning instead of decreasing the strings, thanks.
  9. https://soundcloud.com/williamthurin/seven-sins-struggle Might be a bit too much going at some parts, what do you think?
  10. Wow yeah that's surprising especially this soon. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
  11. Not sure what the actual japanese title is since it seems to be refered to as Pain of the Universe as well as Pain the Universe. Original:
  12. https://soundcloud.com/williamthurin/ancient-constructs-from-wings-of-vi-orchestral-remake-2nd-version Version 2 without the synth lead and some changes here and there.
  13. https://soundcloud.com/williamthurin/aria-sounds-lss-violins I like the glissando patch.
  14. I took the plunge and bought the library, I had an issue with downloading one of the parts but support was fast and resolved it for me. The library isn't very difficult to use but playing it in real time is not ideal because velocity is crucial for the legato passages. I'll post demo/s once I finish something I'm happy with.
  15. Their video demo didn't make me any wiser as to how the legato actual sounds when programmed well, it sounds very wonky at times but also nice at times so I'm thinking it really matters how you manage it. Some of the articulations I like that I didn't know were in it (the fast attack chord suitable ones). The short articulations are very sharp sounding but could eq that if undesireable. I really just don't know about the legato yet.
  16. Some of the music turned out sweet I think especially the high paced action ones imo (demacia, challenger, tiny masterpiece of evil. The documentary was alright, not too much happening it felt like but still interesting to see a bit of what the process was like.
  17. Ah thanks, I didn't recognize the sound of hollywood string and brass nor the choir. Dark Souls is more dire or bleak sounding but you should definitely give it a listen.
  18. Ah that makes sense, it would sound a lot more natural as a wind instrument with that playing style but with the current string playing style it sounds like medium-long bowing quickly.
  19. Great rendition of this theme, the only gripe I have is the short string sound, kinda detracts from the piece for me example 1:21 it sounds a bit off, other than the strings like last piece nicely paced, the special touches like the repeat at 1:34. Subscribed.
  20. Really good piece, there's many things going for it, the pacing, the slight changes to keep it interesting, the overall build up and the vocal part sounds amazing. What libraries did you use? The rhythm also deserves credit. It's kinda like a mix of soul calibur, yoko shimomura and dark souls.
  21. Nice, looking forward to the demos! Hopefully it stands up to the competition.
  22. Yeah good points about the demos, interesting and fairly tricky subject depending on how much the sound can change with knowledge of how to use the library. It seems to be mostly a guessing game. Also you'd think big companies like EWQL would put a lot of resources on the demos or are the demos just from the beginning of the library? Then it could be like you said rushed demos. Ah yes now that you mention that the sound can get that "suck" effect in a drastic dynamic shift, because of how different it sounds when bowing softer I'm guessing. Thanks for the insight on a lot of things.
  23. I think the longs sound good enough but the transition between notes seem too long and bit "sucky" like it sucks in instead of a stroke. https://soundcloud.com/aria-sounds/adagio-sordino-legato-naked at the high parts 0:41 or maybe I just haven't heard isolated high strings enough to know what it sounds like. I kinda like the harshness actually, smart of you to look at the youtube video for getting a better feel of the timbre and comparing the demo to the original was also something I didn't think of. The point about programming in the demos is tricky, you'd think they put out very polished demos by someone who knows how to get the best sound but would need to use the library to tell like you said.
  24. T3KYO: yeah I agree, I didn't get any immediate idea what to blend into this but it's almost always cool to hear when someone does that, like putting in a different theme and make it fit. Or if you can make original melodies that still fit and seem familiar, that's even more difficult though. Jakos: I have a better picture of what it takes for a song to be a remix now I feel with your and T3KYO response. Also interesting that you noted which Final Fantasy that came to mind. I'll try to keep my creativty open to unqiue ideas in the future, right now I'm trying to force myself to come up with something but not going so well, maybe something will pop up. Thanks for the comments!
  25. Ah thanks for the information, appreciated. Out of question in terms of price for me atm but the ens options sounds cool.
