  1. I am liking the prospect of an NES tribute album. A lot of the big guns of the system (Mario, Zelda, Kirby, etc.) are already listed, but I'd like to throw a few title names out there that might get overlooked.

    StarTropics

    Shatterhand

    Contra

    Battletoads

    Crystalis

Capcom's Disney games like Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers or Darkwing Duck

    Dragon Quest/Warrior

    Ninja Gaiden

There's plenty of other good stuff out there on the NES, but these are what came to mind first.

  2. Just so you guys know, about ten minutes after I finished preparing the compo stuff from yesterday, I lost my internet service at home. What seems to have happened was a tree that was being cut down apparently landed on an underground cable that we get our internet from. After reporting the problem to Comcast, it sounds like they don't expect to be able to look at it until Friday morning. So I won't be around much this week until that gets sorted out, but it should hopefully be taken care of before the next deadline.

  3. Voting for the Hero Bracket side of the Semifinals is now open! You may download the round’s zip folder here. Voting may be done in the rRPC Social Group and will remain open until noon EST on Monday, July/28. If you want to post reviews of the round’s tracks, do so in a single post in this thread.

For easy access to the source themes used in each round, check out the rRPC Roster.

  4. Both Heroes have submitted their music and will be made available for voting shortly. In the meantime...

The heroes who had fallen behind arrived at the entrance of the Divinity Tower one by one. As the final heroes arrived, a brilliant burst of light from within the tower caught everyone’s attention. Several denizens of darkness appeared in the chamber, blocking the heroes’ path forward. No longer on opposing sides, the unified villains fix their murderous gazes upon the heroes. The combatants on both sides draw their weapons and charge into battle.

    Fallen Round: Boss Gauntlet

While the finalists are being determined, the Fallen are given one last chance to participate in the rRPC. The rest of the Heroes have finally arrived on the scene to offer their support to their champion. But they find themselves stonewalled by the minions of the Final Boss.

This round is open to all Fallen participants regardless of which bracket they were a part of. Participants are not required to make mixes for this round, it is simply a bonus round to keep things going as people vote on who will be the finalists of the rRPC. Fallen mixers may choose one of the boss battle themes I’ve provided, or one of the character themes from other Fallen participants to combine with their own theme. The boss themes are:

Purification of Darkness ~ Battle With the Parts - Grandia 2

Boss Battle (Crisis, Opportunity) - Skies of Arcadia

Fallen mixers will be given two weeks to submit their music. They will be due on Monday, August 4th at noon EST. Heroes, Villains, rally behind your champion and stand strong!

  5. I'll give you the time you need. Ghetto Lee Lewis asked me to give the villains an extra week so you'll have time to recover. Keep me posted on how the mix is going and how you're faring and we'll play it as it goes. Even if it means pushing the rest of the compo back a week, I'm willing to give you a fair shot of submitting a quality mix. If all you need is an extra day or two, I'll still be able to do the vote this week, but we'll just see how things are going on your end.

I am still expecting the heroes to have their music ready by the deadline.

  6. That's unfortunate. There are three other sources to choose from though, if any other ideas regarding them click with you. The deadline is closing in but it's not quite here yet.

Speaking of the deadline, I actually have a dentist appointment taking place around noon tomorrow, so I am going to give you guys an extra hour. The new deadline will be at 1PM EST on July 21st. Of course, if your mix is ready before hand, I will gladly take it as soon as you are ready to submit it. I hope our competitors in the brackets are making progress with their mixes.

  7. Maybe I can give "Corridor" some loving before the weekend is up.

You have no idea how happy that'd make me, but don't let that be the deciding factor over whether you do it or not. Anyway, don't worry too much over missing the last voting period, sometimes things just happen and your attention has to be focused elsewhere. Thank you for taking the time to critique the Villain entries from round 2.

Also thanks for the updates evktalo and Ethan. I'm very eager to hear what you guys do with that Xenoblade source.

  8. This is just me brainstorming at the moment so this isn't an official decision, but if I were to extend the Hero Round 3 deadline to match the deadline for the Villains Bracket's current round, would everyone be able to submit a mix? I'm only considering that possible option because we won't be able to start the finals until after voting has ended for the Villain Round 3 mixes anyway.

I know evktalo said he only needed a few hours to have his mix ready, and he would be more than welcome to take this extra time to polish up his mix, if we go this route. It just doesn't feel right for a finalist being decided because they were the only one to submit something. I personally don't want a repeat of the first round of the compo but I also don't want to do anything that could be considered unfair to other competitors. If Ethan thinks he only needs a day or two, or (and I hope this isn't the case) he does not think he'll be able to do anything regardless of how much time I give him, then those routes are more likely to be taken.

Again, this is just me thinking out loud, but if you have any thoughts on this, feel free to share.

  9. Voting for Villain Bracket Round Two has closed.

Not long before the heroes arrived at the tower, the forces of Pokey and Sherincal had converged upon the hallowed grounds. As the grueling battle ensued, the weary minions of the two dominating villains fell one by one. And while the main forces were locked in combat on the grounds, their masters took their battle inside the tower itself. The victor of the battle will reign supreme over the denizens of darkness. And their first act as master will be to seize control of the Divinity Orb.

    Villain Bracket Round Three: Domination

After much conflict, only two Villains remain. The winner of this round will advance to the finals and be pitted against the Hero Bracket’s champion. The deadline for this week’s match-up is noon EST on Monday, July, 21. And our two remaining Villains are:

    Jason Covenant (

) vs. Ghetto Lee Lewis (
    )

This will be the last round of the competition in which Summons will be allowed. The Summons the remaining Villains can use are:

Jason Covenant can summon Anorax’s Deathevan and Mindwanderer’s Gades

Ghetto Lee Lewis can summon Supercoolmike’s Saturos and Xenonetix’s Shadar

The Villains who have been eliminated from the compo can still contribute Fallen mixes for this round. Fallen Villains may choose to mix their character’s theme with one of the other Fallen participants', or one of these four dungeon themes:

The Castle - Final Fantasy VIII

Great Silver Shrine - Skies of Arcadia

Don’t forget that collaboration between Fallen participants is acceptable. I don’t have to say it, but please be sure to submit your mixes in the format I requested in the first post of the compo. The final battle is drawing near. Who will be the final boss of the rRPC?

  10. Thanks a lot, timaeus, and everyone else who have already put their votes in. Anyway, I probably don't have to do this anymore, but just reminding everyone the deadline for the current round and voting period is just over 18 hours away as of this post. Heroes should be getting their music to me soon and if you still haven't checked out the Villain Round 2 mixes and voted, time is running out.

  11. Here are some thoughts on the Villain tracks from Round 2:

Jason Covenant - Pokey the Choker: I like the feel of this one, especially after it kicks off around the 1:22 mark. It makes good use of both sources. Nicely done.

Mindwanderer - Mother of Sinistrals ~ Lament: This was an enjoyable track though the three notes from Pokey's theme in the background get a bit too repetitive after awhile. I'm not quite sure what to suggest on how to change that. I did think the return to the style of the intro at the end of the track was a nice way to wrap things up.

Xenonetix - A Demon's Executor: I like the energy this mix has. The production could probably be stepped up a notch but it's pretty solid otherwise. Would be nice if it were a bit longer.

Ghetto Lee Lewis - Gratuitous Sax and Violins: I'm really digging this funky mix. Very different style than the sources. Another mix I wish were a bit longer.

Supercoolmike - Earths Sacrifice: First of all, I'm just glad someone bit and made a Fallen mix. This is a pretty nice mix overall. Wait until you get some feedback from other people more qualified to make this call than I am first, but I think this mix just might have the potential to be mixpost-worthy. Well done.

As always, thank you guys for submitting your music. If you haven't done so already, be sure to get the zip folder and check out these tracks currently up for voting. Make your choices at the rRPC Social Group and help determine who advances to the next round.

Ethan Rex, evktalo, and anyone considering a Fallen mix this round, how are your mixes coming along so far?

  12. I'm glad to see you both approve of the round source. I think I might have actually fist pumped when I drew it. I hope the fallen heroes find a source they like among the four other tracks I provided. I just realized I forgot to say it in the round post, but the fallen heroes can also choose to mix their themes with other fallen character themes from either bracket. I'll edit that in.

  13. Voting for the Villain Bracket Round Two is now open! You may download the round’s zip folder here. Voting may be done in the rRPC Social Group and will remain open until noon EST on Monday, July/14. Be sure to vote in every match up or else your vote will not count. If you want to post reviews of the round’s tracks, do so in a single post in this thread.

For easy access to the source themes used in each round, check out the rRPC Roster.

  14. And voting for Hero Bracket Round 2 has closed!

Frog and Marth arrived at the entrance to the Tower of the Divinity Orb side by side. The large door was already open and, farther inside, there were signs of some kind of fight. The heroes entered with their weapons ready at their sides, and it was not long before they reached a corridor that split into two separate paths. Sensing that time was of the essence, the two heroes split up down the divided hall in the hope that at least one of them will reach the Divinity Orb before it was too late.

Hero Bracket Round Three: The Tower of the Divinity Orb

The final match-up of the Hero Bracket. The third round will focus on dungeon themes, specifically those associated with areas of special interest from their respective games. Whether they are final dungeons or areas that revolve around a key point in the game’s story, these locations leave a lasting impression on those who enter.

And the source theme for this round is:

To the Last Battle - Xenoblade Chronicles

And our Fallen Heroes who fell behind during the journey may choose any one of these four sources to mix with their character themes:

    Dead Sea - Chrono Cross

    Fallen Paradise - Hexyz Force

The Fallen Heroes may also choose to mix their themes with the themes of their fellow Fallen characters, regardless of which bracket they're from.

The Summons for our remaining two heroes are:

Ethan Rex: NovaReaper’s Ren and Tlachtga and djg-music’s Ramza

evktalo: urdailywater’s Nepgear and Yami’s Surlent

Heroes will have until noon EST on Monday, July 14 to submit their mixes to me. You guys already know by now, but please be sure to submit your tracks as requested in the opening post of the compo thread. The journey is nearing its end, Heroes. You must persevere!

  15. I'm sorry to hear that man. Do what you can but mind your health. If you think you can get something in a little after the deadline, I'm sure Mindwanderer and the other competitors won't have any objections. Let me know if you think it can happen later today or not, if it isn't ready by the deadline.

Also, keep on voting people, regardless of when the villain tracks get released, the polls are still closing at the same time.
