I like TSE's stuff alot but the X50 (v.1.1 I think it is) is my least favorite head in what I have. An update to the X30 would be pretty cool but I still prefer Lepou's Legion, Hybrit and LE456 to just about anything else.
For roughly the same amount you can go with the latest version of recabinet
Which sounds much closer to having live mic'ed cabs than anything i've heard anywhere else.
When you give away such good stuff for free it gets tough to ask for compensation.

I have to say be very careful if you decide to collab with Brandon at any point for this competition or in future ones. When it came to crunch time I loaded up his vocal stems ready for a full night of work and at various points where the main vocals weren't supposed to be playing were Alien jibberish duets, random screams and blips, and an adlib about eating people's brains that went on just long enough to make some people really uncomfortable.
Really tough to focus on mixing when you're laughing hysterically at various points in the song.
I might post a version where I leave all of those in just for the nyuks.
I posted the track in the workshop with a quick explanation on source usage if anyone needs it. Once I get caught up on all the work I was supposed to be doing over the week i also plan to have an acoustic version of the track done at some point.
Awesome tracks this week!

This is my current entry for the SZRC that is going on right now in the competition forums. Check it out if you haven't yet!
I decided to pull out the big guns early and do a huge collaboration on a Power Metal Remix with Brandon Strader, Xarnax42 and Pumpkin King.
The concept for the remix is based off of the first part of the story to Sonic Colors when Yacker is pleading with Sonic and Robotnik is capturing the aliens. It's a pretty stereotypically power metal story about oppression and freedom.
Sources:
Sonic Adventure 2 Cosmic Wall
Sonic Colors Tropical Resort
Remix:
https://soundcloud.com/garpocalypse/dreams-dont-come-true-cosmic-1
The sources I think should be pretty easy to pick out. The lyrics pertaining to yacker are split between Cosmic Wall's melodies and Tropical Resort's. Robotnik is straight Cosmic Wall. The chorus is Tropical Resort and Pumpkin King's awesome keytar'ing is based off of Cosmic Wall. Originally I wanted to do two solo sections based off of each source but getting this much together in a week proved difficult enough as it was!
A huge thanks to everyone I worked with!
This was my first real attempt at mixing vocals and I ended up kinda killing them. Power Metal vocal processing is at the top of skills I want to learn right now so the next version will be much cleaner.
Bash Away!

... as the end of the world approaches a lone Tuberz faces THE ARMADA!!
Anyway, listening to the tracks now; Garpocalypse, can you please clarify Xarnax42's role in your track? Because I can't seem to hear his usual croony v<3cal t<3nes anywhere o_OApologies to Xarnax, I'm listening to it now and i think he's too low in the mix. Any time you hear the vocals thicken that's him.
Xarnax is in the second part of the verse and the chorus every time. I decided to stack him and strader in the center which was probably not the best move.
You can tell i've only worked with vocals one other time in my life right? ...and that was Strader's My Choice stems from the WCRG.
Xarnax really got into this quickly. Within a few days I had a ton of leads, harmonies and octaves to play with. Only to bury them alive in the mix.

Didn't sleep. Up all night. Done! Bed! Wake me when the tracks are posted in a few hours.
I had a freaking blast working on my track this week. If anyone enjoyed the first part of the storyline to Sonic Colors. You may possibly very well enjoy this remix! I've wanted to do something like this for awhile now. Dreams really do Come True!
Looking forward to seeing the tracks this round!

Looks like i'm pulling a nigh-all-nighter...

I picked up the magazine today. I know it's just a tiny blurb, but this is still so awesome. I used to subscribe to Game Informer when I was a kid and I never would have imagined that something I worked on would end up appearing in the magazine. So cool. Here's the full-screen image:
Now I regret not renewing my subscription. from 2 years ago. Going to have to run out and pick this one up.

Any other remixes suitable for the viking apocalypse?
You rang??
If I knew anyone was going to make this a thing I would have finished up a ton of stuff!!
How about this?

It all sucks in some way or another but enjoy!

*sigh* In typical Round 2 fashion for ol' PH, I'm scrapping what I've got so far and starting over. Hopefully I remain slightly saner and churn out a better product than I did in the WCRG
If you pull that off twice that will be amazing! I tried to pull a Phonetic Hero for the Final Fantasy CC and it turned out GOD AWFUL!
...and Damnit Superior! Why did you have to pair up Amphib with Haks?! I want to hear more from both of these people!!
-
I'd be open to this well. Though I think a bi weekly competition would work best. One week to familiarize ourselves with the synth and one week to remix with it. It would also be pretty cool if a selection of freeware was open to vote on before each round. There's a bunch of stuff out there that I have but never bothered to learn to use.
The only problem I see is a synth not working for people who have older systems. But then again I'm pretty sure I am the only person running a 4GB XP studio PC.

Happy Birthday!

NOE
We need a cool face off. Avante Garde atonal section?
Those reel in all the votes obviously.
Having a blast with what I am working on but it definitely has brought a new set of it's own challenges! Can't wait for sunday.
-
I enjoyed what you had chernabogue!
Just to echo that about Bingo Highway I was pretty relieved to not get that pairing for round 1.
Can't wait to hear an update for this track.

Quick update on where I am on my track.

I couldn't vote for Tenpei Sato?!
Went with Jeremy, Motoi, and Masato.
-
Holy dang yo that's a tough round.
How vote
How
Probably not going to be voting for this one.
unless i engage in some serious nitpicking.
Haks and Amphib damn. Either way I go with that one i'll be pretty bummed out about the elimination.
Hahaha what does that mean?WAS YOUR BODY NOT READY FOR SO MUCH PINGAS?
That was all I needed to see today.
J.C. and his boys Wildfire...

Tuberz vs Garpoc: faces will melt.
haha, i had no idea people were looking forward to dusk matching up with me. Glad that round didn't disappoint!
Tuberz has gotta be one of the coolest people on these forums. If given the option he always votes for his opponent no matter how close the results might get. HOWEVER! I am kinda still burned on how his rock and metal remixes for the WCRG over the summer consistently outplaced mine.
...by no small margin either.
So now i'll be looking to square things up!
Get ready to shred Tuberz!!!!

GARRRRRRRRR Pocalypse's
SZRC Edition Vol. II
Fashionably Late as always.
You're Too Snow!
Really enjoying the snow like vibes from the intro. I think the guitar stay at one level in the mix too much though. Would
have liked to hear some tone changes. Maybe a double tracking or a synth layering for some sections. If you were going for
a live sound, which is possible with all that reverb, then it works. Really good use of both zone themes!
Synth Snowman
Some interesting avant garde sounds in this one but probably unintentional. Very tough to pick out the themes at times but it
was a pretty good effort. Sterling it's great you are getting started this early in your life. Keep at it and you will get
some great stuff going!
No Love Lasts Forever
InTro WAs a ComPLetE MIcHaEl JacKsOn RiP oFf! Kick Snare Kick Clap? yEa, ReAL oRiGinAl... WhAt iS tHis 1985?! GeT sOmE

Call of The Phoenix
Orchestra remixes are kind of a funny thing. Sample libraries are either great or completely unusable. This remix might not
have the best samples but they were used very well. Though the violins really stood out to me in a less than great way when
they took the melody at 00:56 mostly because the articulations were unnatural and the vibrato was really awkward. Find
someone who has a decent set of orchestra samples and see if they would mind working with you on this! get it subbed!
Double Cross
Nice intro. Enjoying the sweep. This is definitely going somewhere. Crap it's dubstep NEXT!!
... just kidding. Production is fantastic with a great sense of depth and movement from background to foreground. Though
with Death Egg being your pick for the Competition I was hoping to hear more of it. Nice job though!
Sininen Sili Silai
Classic ROck sOunD oHh yEAa!! Despite the (intentional) shoestring budget demo sound the guitars all fit together pretty
well! Can hear each one very distinctly. Just a small section around 1:58 gets a little hairy but otherwise awesome job!
Advanced
Good matching of similar sounds used in the source. Though I would have personally like to hear more of an aural 'splosion
at 00:45. You had some good energy building but all that was lost after the 'splosion! Keep tabs on what you have in the
center and what you have panned outwards and don't be afraid to cut the bass out for a beat or two before those moments. Try
to make it as obvious as possible and it will come across well!
Hedgehog Reboom
Spoken word intro? Man, you GOTTAA RAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!! I like to use images to help get the best performance.
Look at something like that right before you record and it will help get some more out of you. I think some of the issue is that you used too much disonance at the wrong times which adds to an overly lethargic
feeling throughout the remix and that probably had an effect on how you did the vocals. Not bad, just not kickin' quite as
well as it could have. Hope to be hearing more from you in the future!
Smooth as Ice
Really like that sax. Can actually hear the keys clicking at the start and feel the spit coming out of the end of it. I
would kind of like to hear the sax take a break for one of the melodies though. Let someone else have the spotlight for a
few beats you know? Very nice remix hope you can submit more of these to OCR!
Frozen Heart
Awesome production... despite the auto tuned vocals.
Awesome work!
Twisted Chemicals
... and here we get into Chemical Plant. Also reffered to as the next Sonic Track to be remixed Ad Nauseum. An Ice Cap Zone
in progress.
Very nice arrangement. ...and I'm not just saying that because I have nothing good to say about the mixing.
That's great too! Going to be listening to this one for awhile.
Chemically Groovin'
Oh man, getting Shenmue vibes at the start! It sounds you have something great here it just needs more elaboration. Sadly
1:23 quickly throws away everything you set up so well. When you go back to this one I would delete that last 20 seconds or
so before doing anything else as it's not in key with the rest of the remix. It's really just that lead too that's killing
that section. Far from unfixable though! keep at it!
Ruinous Ruins
For not being a Sega person phonetic you sure nailed this one.
I'm a major sucker for that specific Genesis FM bass. Get
the megaman out of there tho!
High Adventure
This is one matchup I was really looking forward to seeing. I had no idea how it would turn out since Bingo Highway sounds
like it was written under the influence of someone obviously coked out and Wing Fortress Zone that is no one's favorite Sonic
2 level. Love the wide bass drum when that hits. Very good remix that sees Bingo Highway through the lens of Wing Fortress
Zone. Though that did make it tougher to pick out the parts that were Bingo at first.
The Perfect Bingo
Perfect buildup too. Though on my Sennheiser Cx215's something in that snare is killing my ears. I'm guessing it might be
the compression. Regardless it's a very solid Bingo Highway remix and must have been a real challenge for both remixers to
incorporate both themes.
-
OK, so yeah. I think it's just that particular snare sound feels weak, the processing isn't necessarily bad. Another thing is that the snare's fundamental doesn't feel very strong (and also seems a little high, which can make it hard to get it to sound more powerful), so it might help to boost that in the EQ just to make it more present. You might also want to try playing with the compressor's attack, unless there's not a compressor on the snare chain (but there should be
). Even if you're using parallel compression, most drum samples still need compression for timbre shaping. I think
is a good example of lighter 80s electronic drums. They're a little more laid back and less boomy than a lot of other 80s drums (*cough*hairmetal*cough*), but they're still very snappy and present, if that makes senseI stopped worrying about setting snare compression once I started replacing it with saturation. I just turn it up a smidge but it might be the crappier Dimension Pro EDM snare overpowering the SSD one. That one wasn't saturated.
Thanks! i'll get to fixing it hopefully before the start of the next round!

Last night's SEGA Mixer Drive is now up on RadioSEGA Media. Go grab it!
Quickly becoming my favorite show! :)I was able to catch a little of the show yesterday but I wasn't able to get into irc.
It was kind of flattering and somehow a little cryptic hearing Rexy talk about me first appearing at DoD.
For the record, I started doing DoD because it was the only way I was going to see myself on the front page of anything!(Don't bother looking them up, all those remixes suck.) :)I've really been a huge OCR fan years before that!
Was it me or did Tuberz's remix have a few sections where it sounded awesome with all that extra compression?
-
Garp - ...
I realize I can't really comment much on source usage because I haven't actually PLAYED many Sonic games, so I'm not too familiar with the music.
I also apologize if anyone is offended, that's not my intent. I feel like I'd be doing you all a great disservice if I didn't give honest feedback. Good bunch of tracks, 'Buttniks
yOur'Re GonNa GeT YoUrS PhoNEtiC!! BeFoRe ThiS iS OveR!!
Thanks for the comments. About the drums are you saying they were mixed too weak or the sounds themselves are too weak ? It was a custom SSD Kit layered with an EDM kit with the EDM kit being reverbed seperately. Both were then sent to a Parallel Compression Aux where I believe I used a compressor that imitates a Urei 1176 in all button mode. Can't remember for sure though if I used that one or another one i'll have to take another look at it.
-
I honestly think FF15 development either needs to be made into a sitcom, or some kind of movie. Maybe a romantic comedy drama.
Well, if it was going to be an interactive videogame musical, which would have been awesome any way they were going to do it, I put my vote in for 40+ HOUR ROCK/METAL OPERA.
-
Soo, they approved FFXV to go back to consoles because Nomura designed a bunch of clothes for Lightning?
wtf.
Either SE really has lost touch or this is what business deals in Japan have been reduced to.
Yu Suzuki offered to personally pay back any loss his early arcade games endured. Nomura offers to design clothing. Digital clothing.

I had a couple of remixing ideas down for some Mass Effect tracks but ran into some familiarity issues right off the bat. If I ever get them off my harddrive I would probably say they were inspired by the music of mass effect rather than remixes. BGC had some good Mass Effect remixes but the only one that is remixable with any sense of familiarity is the Galaxy Map track in my opinion.
Still one of my favorite games though.
I'll probably be doing a bunch of Freedom Planet remixes once that comes out. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=120841685

Thanks for the comments!
This was one of my reference tracks while I was balancing.
(obviously not the youtube version)
For the drums I tried to get something close to that. Equilibrium tends to keep the drums quieter than other bands, especially the kick, and I think that's where my ear goes when i'm setting the faders.
For the first time I was actually pretty satisfied with the kick. I know what you mean by clicky and I have heard tons of tracks where the kick is nothing but a crap plastic clicking sound but I think I got just enough click in there to draw attention to it without relying on it being nothing but. I'll drop the EQ a little and see what happens tho.
Some good suggs for sure. I meant to have some instrumentation backing the deathmetal parts at the very least but completely forgot to stick them back in there during the rush to get this thing in. This monster is not 100% just yet. But when it is I am going to burn it onto a stack of CD's, take it to an OCR panel and literally hurl it at the judges!!
As for the ending I know it doesn't sound that pleasing but that was kind of the point. Dreams don't come true. You're not ending up where you expect. You had your time. Onto the next track. Unfulfilling ending ya know?
I may end up making it stronger and more akin to the power metal bands I've listened to though if that point doesn't come across to the listener well enough.
It's been confirmed. I did incorrectly process the growls. and the vocals.
I cut around 250-270 range and now i hear that it was too much. You heard the brass? Yea i buried that in there really well. Or poorly. ![:)](https://ocremix.org/community/uploads/emoticons/default_smile.png)
That's some ear! Actually I used Boost 11 which allows you to push things pretty hard and avoid clipping. I've been told that if you see transients go into the red on occasion that's ok as this will make up for that. I believe it only went into the red and set off the GR once every 7 to 10 seconds on average. I'll be remixing this from the ground up again so hopefully i'll get something better balanced that can be pushed harder next time.
