  1. Am i going to have to say it? Really? April Fools Shmucknuts. I thought this was a pretty good audio fools joke. Who else can fit in a FOGHORN in such a subtle way you know? With love, -gar
  2. My latest and greatest folks. Enjoy! BONUS POINTS: To anyone that can insert a George Carlin reference, quote, anything when replying to this thread. -gar
  3. Can't go wrong a little Quimby in your music. I have extended this and hope to finish it up soon. Work, playing in a musical, and Dissidia Duodecim has taken all the time I've had the last couple weeks. Can't wait for some free time!
  4. Thanks, i'll try messing around with limiters a little more and see what I get. The only limiter I have been using is the one on Dimension Pro and that one is really easy to use. It's just an on/off switch. I'm still new at the production end of things, I've learned alot from the OCR talent but are there any other message boards/resources that are good to use?
  5. Hey thanks for your comment. I listened to your Chrono Trigger remix and was wondering how you got the volume of the mix up and preserved some of the dynamic range.

  6. The repetition is mostly intentional, I just hope it doesn't sound too robotic. When I work on this again i'll try to get more variation and less cut and paste. One thing that has always eluded me is just how most people get their mixes up to good volume. I really thought I had this time too. I mean, it's a rock piece so I was free to compress the master as much as i wanted though I didn't push it up far into the red. (uh-oh, he's talking about compression! I have a feeling that this post will be flamed now). I know this has been asked a few times here but how do you get the volume of the mix up to decent levels without relying on excessive compression?
  7. Hey Shadow, I have a new WIP I think you might be interested in. Final Fantasy: Matoya's Cave Melodeath. Let me know what you think and if it has potential.

  8. I made a few corrections to the piece and remixed and mastered it. I wanted to get this done so bad that I think I blew my ears out towards the end so if the quality is actually worse than my last post then a big hearty "My Bad" will be in order. Source: Likes? Dislikes? -gar
  9. I dig. The WR usually has a good balance between source and remix. Did you play the game or did you just take the music and go for it? I tend to remix only games that I have played and I really want to play the game but I just can't for the life of me bring myself to throw 200 bucks at a Wii just to play it.
  10. No, I have a collection of background noises that I wanted to try to force to jive together to go along with a piece I had an idea for. Didn't work since its all polyphonic which led to some really wonky sounds. Not what I was going for. My only other option is to recreate everything around a tonal center which will take forever. I'm sure that I will be working on this for a long time. If I ever get started that is. Screw Autotune.
  11. Yea gives you new respect for all of those uncredited people who worked hard and put in long hours to keep Ozzy in the music biz for so long.
  12. Jordan Rudess just sold me on Spectrasonic's Omnisphere so that will most likely be what I acquire next. Other than that I always wanted an Erhu to try to play and maybe a really good 40+GB Bagpipe Library. Hey Nick Phoenix! I got your next idea!
  13. The 80's sound is a bit unintentional but I guess that's what comes out when you are referencing some things from the late 80's to early 90's. I was hoping to avoid using compression on the master mostly out of inexperience. Also, it seems that on these forums you can't even mention compression without setting off a powder keg with some of the OCR regulars. Something I was hoping to avoid, but there, I probably just set them off again. Thanks for the review.
  14. Jesus, don't provoke him. Expecially now that we can create what history we want with photoshop. I imagine it was the same idea as those old hearing aides from the 1700's depicted in most Disney films. The ones that looked like a tuba sticking out of your head. Same concept just with radio waves instead...
  15. Depends on what version you bought. V-vocal as far as I know only comes with the producer editions of the software. To use V-vocal highlight what audio you want to autotune then go up to edit and click create v-vocal track. Also, I couldn't get it to work towards the end I had intended. Maybe next time i'll try to autotune the unique sounds of smacking a cat with a bucket of snails and fit that into a piece.
  16. I am submitting this for MOD review. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hikFCwduCIQ&feature=related Source A few changes: Tried to layer a few instruments to help bring out the sound a bit Fixed a few drum fills Some other things too small to remember Also I toyed around with compressing the master. I originally wanted the remix uncompressed except for the guitar but the only way I feel I could bring the volume up to the OCR usual was by squashing it down a little. Looking forward to seeing some comments. -gar
  17. Sorry bad post, should have researched this one before hand. Going to mess around with a cheap usb camera and record my playing using my studio pc then compile it with windows movie maker. Cheap and simple.
  18. This is getting a bit off topic but I am looking for a decent Digital Camera that has good sound recording capability. I am hoping to throw some videos up on youtube of my bass playing (some Sega Genesis covers for sure) just to show off a bit. Can anyone recommend something? Budget can vary but i am looking to shoot around $100-$200. Thanks -gar
  19. Hey Fishy, I was wondering if I could ask a favor? I'm finishing up a remix that I never thought I would take this far and I am looking for some advice before I put my heart's health on the line and submit it for review. I know that OCR's standards skyrocketed over the last couple of years (been coming here since it was bright and orange in mid 2000) and I am looking for something like "this has potential here is what you need to get it to pass" or "give it up and get out" Here is the link for the posting http://ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=32336 and if you could give it a quick listen and me a little 1on1 I'd love you for it. Sorry If I busted a rule I glossed over about not directly contacting the OCR talent but I would love an informed response. Looking forward to hearing from you.

  20. I think I made the ripoff too obvious sorry, homage. That was exactly the feel I was going for. Not so much in a bar or club type of setting but just walking down a street looking at all the stuff thats going on. Are there any spots that would keep this from passing (if it has the potential to pass)? If anyone has any thoughts I'd love to hear them.
  21. For this update I made mostly some minor changes and added some background. This was my first mix attempt on my new M-audio studio monitors so enjoy. then bash. -gar
  22. My biggest problem? Probably taking too long to mix a given section by looping it repeatedly. I'm usually only half way done when my roommate punches me in the back of the head.
  23. oh crap, i've had v-vocal this whole time with Sonar 6 and never thought to see what it actually was. sorry about the wasted thread space, i'm off to make up for lack of talent by using technology!
  24. I'm no fan of autotune either but if Quincy J says it's just a tool. It's just a tool. I have no idea if this would work or not the way I want it to. But I am looking to do some subtle pitch correction in background "noises" for an ambient piece I want to do. Thanks for the links I'll check them out
  25. Does anyone know of a decent free autotune plugin? I tried looking around for some on google but with autotuning being kind of a fad right now I suspect that many of them could be viruses that I don't want on my studio pc.
