  1. This over-all composition fills my need for ascending progressions. I will agree with Dj Mokram and say that the midi is a little off from the rest of the track. The snare sounds like it's hitting right at 2.5k and that's it. I'm guessing you rolled off the top and bottom to add more headroom. It sucks because this track is just my style as far as composition. However, the violins on at the last build of the song are spectacular. They definitely bring the whole thing to where it needs to be. I think that the mix could use some professional engineering help, but it's outstanding considering how much is actually going on. Keep at it!

  2. I have to say, you can't try to over-volume with tracks that light by nature. That said, it sounds like your tracks are missing some high and low end. You should use a program that can give you a frequency analysis, such as Cool Edit Pro, which is free with a simple crack. Compression is not really what you need, since it sounds like the sounds are relatively balanced. If you really want to increase the volume and use compression, I would add gain on the master fader until it reaches about -1 db. I would then look for transients (Spikes in the recording) and apply a nice over-easy compressor. Start your threshold at -6 and put the ratio at 1.5:1. Attack and release should be relatively fast ( I would set attack at 5 ms and release at 20 ms and see how it sounds. Keep in mind that the entire song should not be the same volume. Listening to something at -.1 Db becomes very tiring for the ears quickly, so you might want to create a fade from start to finish beginning at 0 Db and ending with a 1.5 Db gain to make your song progressively louder. And remember, NO CLIPPING. Digital distortion sounds like shit. Never go above -.1

    good luck

  3. for your vocal id probably eq all the low end out of it, take from 500-1000 and roll off all the low end and maybe add 3-5 db to the 5k and then add alittle reverb to your voice so it fits in smoother with the other instruments. id maybe turn the drums up alittle bit and possibly put alittle compression on them.

Yea that's almost dead on. The drums might actually be fine, since this is definitely a sampled song. I would definitely upgrade the mic. It sounds like it's way too driven (but lacking definition), so I would look into something a little crisper. I personally use a Rhode NT1000 and you could probably get it for less than $200. Sounds steep, but its worth it if you're just trying to spit. Good luck.

  4. Hey all. I'm trying to make some good epic songs, covers or original, and I'm definitely trying to collab because I don't play that many instruments. My main is synth, then guitar, and finally a little drums. I need bassists, drummers, and especially lead guitarists that like to do good ascending progression rock. Just show me a song you've done and we'll see if there's some compatability. Or else I'll throw a tomato at your face. Example-
