I've been using guitar vsti and I wanted to get feedback on their sounds. Here are 3 examples from some of my recent stuff: http://tindeck.com/listen/yeiw http://tindeck.com/listen/wqkh http://tindeck.com/listen/uywl

I never really got feedback specifically about this song. I know it's a bit over the topic but it's technically the first song I've ever written and finished: http://tindeck.com/listen/wqkh

lol, by now I'm sure it's either broken or filled with mold since I haven't used it since I was like 11. >_> lol yeah it is, it gets the job done. Also as I stare at my rooms wall I forgot to mention my fender acoustic electric... which I never use. Man playing guitar is hard. I am a keyboardist all the way >_< -

OCRA-0023 - Pokémon: The Missingno Tracks
mickomoo replied to The Damned's topic in Album Reviews & Comments
Why wasn't I aware of this! Good timing too, doesn't black and white come out this week? lol, in ways I'm super excited, like I think my head might like just exploddde. Although the trailer says there's R/S/E music in the album I don't see it. Or maybe I'm just too excited to see >_< -
I do have to admit it is kinda bland. It's the second song I wrote I was being a bit conservative, though even now, after about 4-5 months of getting into this craft I don't have much else I can think to add to it lol
-
I tried to write jazz awhile back and this was the result >_< I know, not really jazzy, but none the less I wanted feedback:

wip Super Metroid Red Brinstar - arrangement trouble
mickomoo replied to Rozovian's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Hey, this song seems familiar lol. Anyways thanks for the feedback on my mix, more or less I hope I can give you some on yours. 2:10- a bit abrupt, maybe you can slowly increase the tempo of the drums until about 2:06 where they begin like playing really rapidly. 3:16- while I noticed the abrupt transition at 2:10 without you motioning it, this I didn't pick up, it felt fine the way it was. Imo it works doesn't seem like an ending at all 4:22- it could possibly use a transition, but seems ok the way it is. Imo the major critiques would be of the ending itself and 2:10 but everything else seems pretty good. -
lol thanks. I think I recall you commenting on the orchestrated version I made of this song lol. In any case, does anyone know how I can make this piano vsti sound less bright and more ambient and real. Like this: I added tons o reverb and delay and lowered the treble of the instrument but that definitely didn't help... >_<

wip super metroid- lower brinstar remix
mickomoo replied to mickomoo's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Yeah the trumpet starts playing the midsection after the beginning, then a part I made up, I'm still trying to decide what role it should actually play. As for the guitar, yeah it's not playing cords you're right. I believe in the original song the bass alternates between playing Eb E and Bb B, so I had the guitar play them together at some part. I was thinking about mixing up the cords but I figured with another guitar leading it could get messy, I wanted to be as conservative as possible I guess. I'm reworking the song so I'll see what happens. Are you referring to the lead specifically? I kinda noticed that guitar tended to play short and I'm going to re-record it. Or were you talking about in general, including the other instruments? It's cool, I merely appreciate that you took the time to give me feedback, even if you didn't enjoy the song lol. I know it needs quite a bit of fine tuning, also I'm supposing the fact that I kinda rushed to an ending so soon kinda kills any mood you can derive from the song, well at least for me. Is there anything I could specifically do to make it more interesting. This is a genre of music I typically don't write... or listen to so I was kinda conservative and hesitant with this arrangement. I think variation would help. I'm thinking that if I make it longer I'll have more time for variation. I normally don't write this type of music. I was originally going to do an orchestral remix, but it'd have just ended up like this or this probably (yes, shameless self promotion the first one's better ). I don't know what in the world possessed me to want to do this style, but I want to grow in my composition style so I went with it. It was suppose to be much more bolder, hence the trumpet and the guitar alone in the beginning, but I created two guitar tracks and one of them suddenly gained a subtle drive and created a more mellow and distinct lead, so I decided to go with it. Now I'm thinking I have a better idea of what to do to add to the song, we'll see what happens... -
lol. Mine technically has a name, but... I don't really like it, for now I guess it is still a "new piano song"

wip super metroid- lower brinstar remix
mickomoo replied to mickomoo's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
for the most part this piece is done. Anyone have any basic feedback or suggestions? -
I made changes to the piano track. I just basically want feedback on producing a better piano sound, and also want to assess how my current sound is
-
EDIT: This is my first remix ever, and it's no where near done. For the most part it's done, but I kinda rushed the ending I guess so I might go back and make it longer. But as of now I wanted to get feedback on the sequencing, the quality of the sound, the mixing, and the composition.

I think that's beyond true with anyone, for the most part anyways. We all grow to learn and like things at different rates. I kinda was spiteful when taking lessons and didn't see any practical use for playing an instrument, I wish I could kick my younger self in the arse >_> FL definitely has the more user/beginner friendly interface, most people I know just plugged and played. I took a look at FL before I technically knew I was going to write music and just ran away, idk why, extremely silly in hindsight. I settled on using mixcraft, which is kinda limited, but it works for what I'm trying to do, I'm just trying to have fun and experiment before I become serious about playing. Actually one thing I love about mc is that I can use 3rd party daws, it's not extremely limited. I'm thinking I'll use it for the midi, and mix in another program. Also It literally has a plug and play interface... but I bet my dad is going to force me to start using pro-tools when I get home for summer... either that or my best friend'll force me to use another daw lol. The music btw is again amazing. I actually like this one best of all. Again no critiques from me, lol, I actually should seek feedback from you. I actually did notice a change in the strings from the last song though, the 2nd I think. I sounds like you changed the velocities, they don't don't sound as stiff if I'm hearing correctly. -

Yeah, I kinda kinda relate to that. Though I kind do have a music background, I went to a private elementary school where they forced us to study basic theory for 4 years and play a recorder. I took piano lessons for about 3 years awhile back, well, while in elementary school. I just never took any of it seriously, I kinda regret that lol, Because I didn't take piano lessons seriously. I barely know how to play with two hands, it wasn't till recently I started to make some mild improvement in that area. Nothing beats playing a piano though lol, it has to be my favorite instrument... regardless of how much I hated waking up on saturday mornings as a kid for lessons. A lot of people use FL, I could never get use to it, lol... that was about 2 years ago when I started simply looking at DAW interfaces, it wasn't until about half a year ago that I started writing music. I use mixcraft and some other random resources, my dad has pro tools so when I go home maybe I'll use that too. I play everything by hand on a controller, just for fun, though my rhythm was quite off in the beginning I'm getting better at it. I too was inspired to write by video game/orchestral music, specifically Japanese composers I guess cus I played a lot of rpgs growing up but now I'm expanding my tastes. Yeah, it was just a minor suggestion, nothing really glaring to me. Your volumes are pretty toned well together, well especially when compared to my work lol. It's something that I really have problems with lol. But I for the most part love the blending of your instruments. I didn't really think highly of FL until recently, I met a lot of artists who used it fairly recently and you've pretty much sealed the deal lol. -
I decided, for practice to remake some of my own pieces of music on the piano. Currently I've written this: Which is based off of this (well part of it anyways, there's a version with a guitar playing the melody if you care): I'm just wanted to see what I could do to make the piano version more dynamic.

Hey, we're in a similar kinda boat... I picked up a DAW a few months ago and started composing, I have a relatively weak musical background, but I'm no stranger to it. I have to say though by simply composing my ear has gotten much better in a short amount of time. Likewise, my inspiration comes from movie and game soundtracks as well. I really love both tracks, they're really nice! I know I'm a beginner myself, but I honestly I can't tell that you are, everything sounds mixed well and the instruments maintain their distinctiveness (something I have real trouble with). Not only that but all the instruments and parts go together nicely, lol you've had to have some exposure to music before. I might suggest that for some of your lead instruments (mostly the string playing the melody in the second song, a place to be) you could try editing the velocity on certain notes to make the melody more distinct in certian parts, but it's not something that's really a problem. Well anyway this is all as far as I can tell, someone who's more experienced might have much more to say obviously. I do look forward to hearing more stuff from you! -
wip Hi :D I'm new here :D All my songs so far
mickomoo replied to epicpremonition's topic in Post Your Original Music!
You're no noob to mixing lol, I am; I could stand to get some tips from you. How long've you been doing this? What library and daw do you use? Really good stuff you have here, I agree with some of the other post, the beats in your songs kinda lend themselves to asking for lyrics, but they're extremely solid instrumentals. -
the only remix of pollyana I know that has vocals. They sound french, but it was made by a japanese group I think... idk lol

I don't think PSR sticks extremely close to the source material. Also pretty much all of Duane&Brando's raps are awesome lol

finished original soundtrack (new verson song)
mickomoo replied to mickomoo's topic in Post Your Original Music!
For the first song, Tremedous trouble, I actually don't know the scale honestly, I haven't studied theory in years. Essentially I took a c minor cord and a D major cord and played notes on those scales. With the exception of the guitar which is cromatically playing various notes. Out of curiosity when writing this I used a scale finder on these chords and it mentioned a G melodic minor scale, but I don't think that's accurate. And you're right about the percussion... I only added added it to try to see if I could loop the song, rather than writing a looping point into the song. I'm going to rewrite both from scratch though, eventually. I updated the first song again, I'm testing new instruments. The second one I'm hoping to finally fix this weekend -
Honestly I admire anyone who can hold the instrument. I found it really annoying to learn... that and I'm really lazy.
