OCR03384 - *YES* Final Fantasy 7 "Judgement-Funkadelic"
Chimpazilla replied to Chimpazilla's topic in Judges Decisions
Thank you Larry for the source breakdown, source was the main reason I paneled this. I agree with Gario that the drums-only intro could have been shorter. Other than that this track is really well executed and a fun listen! The soloing is so groovy, highlight for me! YES -
Nice beefy beat. I love the vocal clips! I like this arrangement, although I'll agree it's light on source, and it gets a bit repetitive after awhile. My biggest issue with this track though is the mixing. I'm hearing that you've got most of the percussion elements and that one stab instrument clean and crispy, and by contrast, everything else sounds too filtered. The filtering is cool as an intro effect, but as the track gets going, the filtering on all the elements except percussion just makes me wonder if I have water in my ears, and makes the percussion sound too hot and sizzly at the same time. The bass is a bit boomy and inconsistent (the worst I hear is starting at 2:00), it could be tamed with some eq and compression and probably some stronger sidechaining too. The track is really heavy on reverb. If you have any reverb on the bass, remove it. For the rest of the instruments, lower the reverb amounts but more importantly make sure all reverbs and delays are high passed to a minimum of 100Hz if not higher. Make sure the tails aren't going on so long and overlapping each other. I'd like to hear the instrument playing the source melody MUCH more clear and up-front than this, the main melody shouldn't be taking such a backseat. If you could add more bits of source that would be great. When these issues are addressed I think this will be seriously kickass. NO (resubmit)

Five Nights at Freddy's World - Fazbear Hills
Chimpazilla replied to Rotten Eggplant's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The orchestration is really nice! Good use of the samples, my only complaint is that the harp arp sounds mechanical, every pluck the same volume and spacing apart. Your arrangement is quite conservative, but I really like the adaptation to orchestral. The hand percussion is nice, could be louder. -
Hi Xavier, this mix has the same issues as your F-Zero track, the arrangement ideas and writing are sounding cool but the mixing needs a lot of work. The drums are on autopilot, the sequencing is mechanical, and the instruments sound very generic. I hope you can get some better equipment to listen on, and that you will take the time to learn how to use your daw, because I hear promise in your writing and arranging! This particular mix also sounds to me like it needs more identifiable source, it is somewhat light. Join our wip forums! NO

Hey Xavier, this remix needs a lot of production work but I think the ideas are solid. The guitar playing is good, and the piano solo writing is also good, yet it is sequenced very mechanically. Good use of the vocal clips too. But the track isn't mixed well at all. You have some simple autopilot drums playing, and the same crash is playing at the end of every four bars which is too repetitive. The mixing needs to be redone almost entirely, and then you will want to learn how to master your tracks to bring up the overall volume. I want to encourage you to join our wip forum and get further advice there, and also look up tutorials on how to use your daw and production in general. Good luck! NO

Tomo Club www.rvgsymphony.com OverClocked Remix forum id=50319 This is our arrangement of You're Not Alone, from Final Fantasy IX. We remain very inspired by the tango of Astor Piazzolla and the general musical landscape of small acoustic groups. Tomo Club plays a lot of live shows, and we try to capture a living energy in the studio. This tune is one of our favorites to play. Ben, Jessica, Shaolin, Liz, Sara, and I have different musical tastes but this tune seems to fall home for all of us. Hello, my name is Brandon, and I go by SixteenInMono on the forums and everywhere else. This is my first time submitting to OCRemix, so I’m hoping to get some good feedback to improve on my works. I have arranged the song “Servants Of The Mountain” (or People Of The North) from Final Fantasy X, under the original title of “Those Who Seek The End”. My mix of this song is made to feel very open, a lot of emphasis on atmosphere and feel, rather than technical skill or prowess. So I hope the judges enjoy, and I hope to hear back from you! Enjoy.

Submission Information Game Arranged: Super Mario RPG Song: Welcome to Booster’s Tower by Yoko Shimomura YouTube Link: https://youtu.be/MthR2dXqWHI Hello everyone. It’s been a while. After some big changes in my life, I kinda quit working on music for a while, but I started to feel like a part of me went missing and I realized that music is sort of my therapy to help me deal with my everyday stresses and on-going battle with depression. Though, I’m not great at it yet, I kind of need it. With that in mind, I decided that I want to take music more seriously and improve. I have been thinking about changing my name for years, but never really got around to it. Since I now have new inspirations, and a new state of mind, why not go with a new name? Under this name, I will be diving back into some of my old projects and creating something I can really be proud of. This being the first of many. This is sort of a chill hip-hop remix of the Booster’s Tower theme. This was my very first VGM remix that was done YEARS and YEARS ago using Midisoft Studio 4 (one of my all time favorite programs) back before I even discovered OCR. I believe it was back in 97 or 98. Of course, it didn’t sound nearly as nice and the ideas didn’t flow very well, but the instruments and arrangement was pretty similar, and I wanted to keep it that way while fleshing out those ideas I had way back then. Hearing McVaffe’s Bukki’s Tango and Dev’s La Saia’s Resting Place really persuaded me to try my hand at VGM remixing in the first place, but I felt that I could never compete with what McVaffe did with this song, so I held off on remixing it until I got my skills up. I took a crack at this remix a few years ago. It was decent, but I felt that it just wasn’t up to my standards. I knew I could do better, but I just wasn’t really able to get it together. I kinda threw what I had on SoundCloud and abandoned it until this past Christmas. So, here it is, ladies and gents. New and improved:

What an interesting concept! In the orchestral sections, the strings and/or brass being used to play the melody line have no impact because of slow attacks. What about layering an electronic sound over the orchestral melody parts? That might help bridge the sections together a little better, making it sound a little more natural when the electro parts start up. The electro soundscape is so much louder than the orchestral, so the transitions are jarring. At 2:20 again the strings playing lead melody are much too weak by themselves due to the slow attacks. I agree with Sir_Nuts about the drums and the bass, they are on autopilot the whole time they are playing. He has some really good suggestions for improving the writing of drums and bass and making them flow more naturally. Gario has also given some fine advice. I really do love this concept but the execution isn't quite there yet. Keep at it! Then let's hear it again. NO (resubmit)

At the time of arranging the initial 8 bar piece, I couldn't decide whether I wanted to go for orchestral or trance - two of my favourite styles to produce music in. So of course, I went nuts and did both. The Relay Bros group chose Freeze Man out of a shortlist of ice-themed pieces for the 2015 Christmas relay release. Any relay I'm involved in, I have the habit of finishing the arrangement to produce a proper full-length track. Can't just leave them at 8 bars now, can I? Thanks for listening! Kirk raisingwaves.com

OCR03484 - *YES* Witcher 3 "Love and Loss"
Chimpazilla replied to Chimpazilla's topic in Judges Decisions
This is really pretty. The piano sounds just a bit stiff, but works well enough and the sounds are mixed really well. Sweet, moving track. The choruses are very similar to each other but I hear enough difference between them so I'm not having an issue with copy-pasta. YES -

I'll call these intro, verse A, and verse B. 0:00 - 0:18: mostly original material with the horn, clarinets and flute briefly quoting the first measure of verse A 0:19 - 0:51: verse A played clearly in the piano part 0:52 - 1:08: first half of verse B played by the flute 1:09 - 1:28: second half of verse B played by the piano 1:29 - 1:46: original material with short quotes of verse A, again by the horn and clarinets 1:47 - 2:19: intro played by the piano part, with original material gradually building on top 2:20 - 2:35: first half of verse B played by the flute 2:36 - 2:54: second half of verse B played by the piano 2:55 - end: original material with another quote of verse A by the horn Notes The source was used in game but was not included on the official soundtrack release. It was however released separately as a single on iTunes by the composer, Marcin Przybyłowicz. I noticed some subtle audio garbage coming from the flute in sections when it is most prominent. I couldn't pin down exactly what was causing it but it also didn't seem to be too distracting, so I kept it. If you think it's noticeable enough to warrant a fix I'll see what I can do. Thanks!

Garpocalypse Ryan Davis ryandavismusic.blogspot.com Tekken Revolution-Tempest Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcbvpMmCqPY Hey everyone at OCR. Here is a remix I did from the Tekken Revolution OST Tempest. Originally, it was conceived intention of trying to get on one of the Apex albums, It was however the victim of a few rewrites and by the time Apex came around the track was no where near ready. I hung onto it for awhile and after some much needed sprucing finally subbed it. The rain effect that plays throughout the background of the entire track was a live recording of an actual storm. There was also a fair amount of processing needed in order to get the storm to fit around the mix without sounding EQ'ed, increase/decrease the intensity of the rain and to get the thunder to hit at appropriate times. I hope everyone enjoys it. I had a lot of fun working on this.

Originally it started out as an experiment with Bitwig, a new DAW that I just got. I started messing around with Bitwig, refound this track (ooh, the nostalgia! I vividly remember playing this game!) and soon enough I got a decent version of the remix going with a nice soothing, comfy vibe while learning how to use Bitwig at the same time. After a bit more work, I liked the track so much that I thought I’d offer it to the Hometown Heroes album project here on OCR. Of course, my MIDI parts (especially the blues harp!) wouldn’t give the best impression, so I went scouting for people willing to collaborate with me on this track. Finding somebody to play the harp seemed to be the hardest, but I stumbled upon Mac who could help out and who really brought my MIDI part to live with some extra twists and dynamics. I never worked with live violin before, and Chris was nice enough to take a gamble with me and he did a great job in his parts (even though he found my MIDI parts to be already pretty realistic). Trumpet, finally, was provided by Joe, with some changes needed to the original parts because they were out of range. The only other lead instrument is the hollowbody guitar, courtesy of ISW Archtop. I just acquired it, and it seems to fit the track very very well. So track all done, great live recordings in, mix finished and I was waiting for the album to progress for almost a year. Turns out it was ultimately cancelled (a pity, I dig the concept!) but I’m pleased to share the track with you for your enjoyment. Hope it evokes the same calm, relaxed, homely feelings of belonging and better days in you as it’s stirring in me Or, as furilas succinctly puts it: "It made my heart feel nostalgic, my brain feel activated and my lips feel oddly aroused.”. You gotta give it to the man, he has a flair with words. Cheers, Jorrith

Hi, this is my first submission and my first production. Your ReMixer name: Shut Up With Me Your email address: Your userid: 33031Name of game(s) arranged: Silent Hill 1Name of arrangement: Why Won't You DieName of individual song(s) arranged: All, Die Composer: 山岡晃 System: Playstation 1 Year: 1999 Link to the original soundtrack: https://youtu.be/vpExfM_pVjM Link #1 to my remix: Link #2 to my remix: I started learning how to produce music a couple weeks before I began making this remix (starting from near-0 knowledge on the subject), and completed it in about 4 days. This was created almost completely in Ableton Live 9 Suite, with a few clips recorded using my Blue Yeti microphone, 2 knives, and a cheesegrater. Silent Hill is one of my favorite games, and the soundtrack is one of my favorite albums ever, even outside of game music. I really like the sound of the album, and I wanted to recreate it in this track. One of the challenges was deciding which instruments to make sound synthesized, which to make sound acoustic, and how far to go in either direction. I favored realism in the forefront and attempted a hellish, live-performance sound in a garage or metal crate. I hope the listener enjoys it.

REMIXER INFO Remixer Name: XPRTNovice Real Name: Joe Zieja Website: http://voicesbyjoe.com REMIX INFO Games Arranged: Super Mario RPG Name of Arrangement: Dirty Nasty Mine Name of Individual Songs Arranged: Docaty Mountain Railroad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMA1uC0bULM **This is a pre-emptive submit for the SMRPG album** Remixer Comments: So I got asked by Emery Monzerol to fill some holes in the SMRPG album, and as I was looking through the track list I saw this Docaty Mountain thing. Never having played SMRPG before, I didn't really know what I was looking at, but when I opened the track I heard what was obviously a Western bluegrassy thing. I thought, oh, okay, that'll be easy. I'll just sort of bring out the bluegrassyness of it and see what happens; I'm a bluegrass player and I can do this. Well, it turns out the easy path is the fucking boring path. I just couldn't get what I wanted out of it and I was utterly unmotivated. So, since the changes were essentially blues changes, I thought - what if I cut the source's time in half and made a blues tune out of it? And then I saw my slide sitting on my desk and though 'Oh. Oh no. This must happen.' And it did.

Hello, my producer name is 'Anomaly'. I haven't done much for this site yet because I only just started doing vg remixes; almost everything else I've done is original. My forum id: 32102 My email: My YT channel: http://www.youtube.com/c/AudioAnomalyOfficial SUBMISSION INFORMATION: Game: Undertale [PC] Arr. Title: Metaphysical Orig. Titles: Gaster's Theme / CORE / Bonetrousle (Papyrus' Battle Theme) Orig. Composer: Toby Fox Link to Gaster's Theme I wanted to submit my Hopes and Dreams remix, but honestly, I figure you probably get as many submissions of that song as One-Winged Angel, so I decided to try for a less trodden route. Although unfortunately as I wrote this song, quite a few remixers posted their versions of what they imagined his battle theme to be as well. Which, indeed, is exactly what this is. As Undertale is a game written with leitmotif strongly in mind, I figured I'd follow the trend! And since Gaster's Theme is fairly short in itself, it gave me a lot of room to add things. The main melody from 0:38-0:58 is a rearranged version of the CORE theme, since that's where he did his thing. 0:58-1:16 contains the fan-favorite skeleton theme of Papyrus, since it's widely projected Gaster himself is a skeleton, and 1:16-1:36 harks back to the CORE theme again. I looped the track with a few minor changes, and all in all, I think I got the 'battle theme' vibe down pretty well. The final length is 3:40.
