  1. Well, to be fair, all of what Gario said is true for any orchestra (not to mention all music) libraries. But yeah, I'll work on all that stuff.
  2. This remix is from one of the best tunes of Jurassic Park for the SNES, an awesome game. It's an epic orchestra mix, but there are also a few more mellow sections. Enjoy, and review! Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/ticeratops-trot-remix Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/ticeratops-trot-remix-2a - Replaced the samples with much better ones - Removed the short french horn riff at the end Version 3: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/ticeratops-trot-remix-3 - Altered the dynamics to be more dynamic - Added a couple modulations that are used during the quieter parts - Changed the key of the entire song from C to F# - Changed the 'B' lead from french horn to woodwind -Did the same in a later section - Replaced the boring chords with a higher-quality progression
  3. I'm not 100% the source is actually Krystal's theme. -->This<-- Is the source I used. Just to clarify, it's listed as "Krystal's Theme (v1.1)" on vgmusic. I looked on youtube, and I couldn't find this particular source. Can anyone tell me what the source I used is called? Oh, and give it a listen, and review. Enjoy! http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/krystals-theme-starfox Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/krystals-theme-starfox-1 - Changed the instruments into orchestral instruments - Changed a bit in the arrangement - Humanized everything Version 3: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/kystal-lullaby-v-3 - Added a Timpani - Added a Bass Drum - Added a second Xylophone pattern - Added a bass pizz/slap - Added a second glock pattern - Added several cymbal and gong notes - Added a chime section after the first motif Version 3.1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/kystal-lullaby-version-3-1 - Added a pizzicato violin - Added a tremolo violin - Added a detache bass - Added a new pattern for the xylophone Version 4: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/kystal-lullaby-4 - Added an orchestra Version 5: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/kystal-lullaby-7 Final Version (6): http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/kystal-lullaby-final-version
  4. I don't know how well I did on this latest attempt at making the song sound good, but I *think* it's better than it was. The drums are no longer the same tribal styled ones I was using, because I simply could not get them to work. If they don't fit in the mix, I guess I won't be surprised as it's an experiment. Anyway, listen and enjoy! Don't forget to review though.
  5. Thanks to everyone who actually helped! To Meteo Xavier: I actually listened to both of those, but someone how missed that the first one had the melody later on. In my defense, it starts with crateria before moving to tallon overworld. The second one is the theme of the same area later in the game, and it doesn't have the same melodies as the first one. Thanks for bringing the first midi to my attention. To rBrn: The tallon overworld theme is brinstar in the sense that it's a remix of the theme. It's slowed down, and modified though, so a brinstar Midi wouldn't be sufficient. To SnappleMan: Get a life. Why bother posting anything if you're not going to help? I can't make it myself, or I wouldn't have posted something in the way I did. I'll admit to that, but I don't need people like you acting arrogant. Besides, did you even listen to the song in question? It's not exactly easy to play by ear, especially for someone who has never transposed by ear. Either help or go away. I'm off to work on a mix of this track now. Yay!
  6. I usually don't like to reply to posts before an update, but I have to make an exception. First, this is a great review. You pointed out a lot of things I missed, and I want to thank you. That, however important, isn't why I decided to say something before I updated. I was just wondering why you say to put the limiter to ~-0.8 dB. I've used limiters before, and although it's probably due to my lack of knowledge and experience with them, they've only muddied up my mixes, and so in my more recent work, I've stayed away from them completely. I've also had a similar effect with compressors. I know there's materiel out there about such things, and because I haven't looked for any of it yet, I won't ask for a link to any. But, can you, or someone else reading this, tell me why you might want to use a limiter on a track like this?
  7. I practically worship the tallon overworld theme from metroid prime, and I hate that there's no MIDI of it on vgmusic. Can someone please help me find one? I would appreciate it so, so, so, much!
  8. Well, here's an update! I did my best to add variety to the mix by changing the drums, and the leads. I added a few solo-type sections over top of the more lackluster parts. The drums are much different, and I added another main rhythm for them during the later parts. Fortunately for the mixing, I got some new headphones today. Yay! Hopefully, that will really help when it comes to mixing. I think I fixed the big issues and balanced it better, though it's admittedly heavy on the bass end. I'm pretty sure that covers all the main things. I don't know if I forgot anything. If so, that'll be a great topic to talk about in a review. Just make sure to enjoy it if you can!
  9. This is my first attempt at a true DnB style song, but it's waaay better than my first attempt at something like it. Anyway, listen and review, but enjoy it whatever you do! Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/team-rockets-hideout Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/team-rockets-hideout-v-2 Version 3: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/team-rockets-hideout-3
  10. I used a few sources for this remix. They're all from the G/S/C generation and are: -Sprout Tower -Burned Tower -Tin Tower -Legendary Beasts theme I used the burned tower as the base, and have the melodies of sprout tower and tin tower in the intro. The legendary beast theme is only used as a few notes in the end. Enjoy! Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/gsc-burned-tower-2
  11. This is quite wonderful. Song of healing is my favorite VGM track, and this mix does it justice. I personally, love what you did with the dynamics, they make the song very hypnotic. The only thing I can tell that could use addressing is that towards the end (2/3-ish) the performance gets a bit choppy. Sorry if that's vague, I don't know how to express it any other way. But honestly, this is great!
  12. I don't know about the intro. The only thing that sticks out is that the guitar feels a bit harsh compared to the rest of the song. As for the intro, beautiful, It has a adventurous feel to it that keeps going the whole song. I could say that the harp feels slightly off-beat to me. That may just be my personal opinion. Otherwise this is... beyond my ability to accurately describe in words. I'm getting a zelda-ish vibe. I love the instrumentation and the new material you bring to the classic theme. The percussion is upbeat. The chords are rich. I can say for sure that this is the best WIP I've ever seen... not that that is great praise. However, I'd be very happy to see this on the main page. I'm currently on my third listen and it's still as good. Great job! I'm saving this to my hard drive just in case it gets abandoned. Just try not to let that happen.
  13. Actually, this was meant as another mod review, not just a carry over from the last one, but, this is enough advice for me to put more into the track without a mod review. I'll change the status back to WIP until I'm ready for a full mod review. Thanks so much for the advice, I've been stuck on this track for a while.
  14. Having a supporting synth is a great idea, thanks! As for the bass, I was in part aiming for a dirty bass so I guess it's good it sounds like that. I'll see what it would sound like if it were cleaner, but I'm afraid that would deviate too far from my vision for this track.
  15. After quite a while, I'm putting up a new version. I didn't do a whole lot to this track though, because I feel that the only thing It needs is a better drum sound. I tried to find some better samples, but nothing turned up. Anyway, unless someone can give some advice, or direct to good african/tribal drum samples, this track is pretty much finished. Enjoy!
  16. How is it that we only have one remix of this source here on OCRemix? It's like the most awesome video game song ever! Even here on the WIP forums. I don't think I've ever seen a WIP of this song. Anyway, here's my take on the theme. I think this could be considered D'n'B, but as I have no experience with that genre, I don't know whether this would count as that. I tried to make it very bass and drum heavy, with a basic hypersaw lead. So, go listen and enjoy! http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/pokemon-red-gym-battle-dnb
  17. New version! If this doesn't fix the structure issues the song has been having, then I probably just don't understand what's wrong with it. Enjoy!
  18. Usually, I don't like to reply before I release a new version, but I'll make an exception. I'm listening to the mix now, and I did overlook the bass. Though, overlook isn't entirely accurate. I started with the bass actually. I took it out throughout the mix for buildup. I'll work on it. Thanks for the compliments also. And no, you're not being too negative. I'd sooner have good constructive feedback that's negative than something positive I can't work with. Thanks!
  19. Fixed those issues (At least, I hope so). I put the link in the first post. Take a look, and enjoy!
  20. Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/teknut-deku-nut-palace Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/teknut-deku-nut-palace-version -Fixed the muddy bass -Made the lead louder -Changed the parts for a more cohesive (A-B-Bridge-A-B-AA-C) structure -Added a better ending Version 3: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/teknut-deku-nut-palace-1 -MOAR BASS -Less lead instrument variation for an even more cohesive structure Version 4: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/teknut-deku-nut-palace-2 -Brought out the nearly inaudible drums to an audible level -Changed the structure to: Intro-Verse-Chorus-Verse-Chorus-Bridge-Chorus-Chorus-Coda
  21. For this remix, I decided to use all synth and drums sounds which I think gave it a somewhat spacey feel to it. Enjoy! Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/ethereal-peace
  22. I don't have too much to say about this other than the fact that I know the mastering/mixing is low quality. Anyway, advice is welcome as always. Enjoy! http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/cackleta-final-battle
