  1. Sorry for not getting back right away. I'll try to clear up the confusion. I'm still new to all the terms so, sorry about that. Ways to transition from a chorus or verse to a bridge is a big one. Tips on how to have more in the song than just intro --> verse --> chorus --> coda type of structure would be nice. What I mean by embellishment is adding a sweeping pad or a bell before certain sections. Does that help at all?
  2. I'm hoping to get some tips, and discussion rather than an answer to a particular question. I don't really know what to ask, but I know what I want to learn. What I mean is that I think my songs can use some embellishment and work on transitions, and I was hoping I could get some general advice on that. The mixes are okay, but they feel dry and unprofessional. I imagine that you would work out a rough structure and go from there, and that's the part I want advice on. If you read all that and understood it, thanks.
  3. Thank you very much for the advice. I listened to it again, and I really don't know how I missed the clashing time signatures. *Sigh* Anyway, a new version is up.
  4. Please, someone show me what I can do to make this better.
  5. Yeah, it's a short melody and i'm still learning how to balance the repetition. Thanks for the comment.
  6. Alright, fixed. I didn't know you had to click the share button (didn't even see it at first).
  7. http://www.box.net/shared/kv2mp8nj0g6sof2479dd I think I'm getting better with these remixes. Can someone come and prove me wrong so I can really get better? Edit 1: Here's a link to the new version: http://www.box.net/s/xa6zi0icqzagt4rynxd2 Changes: - Rewrote the drums and chords to 3/4 - Improved the chord structure - Added depth to the instruments in the chord structure - Added an arpeggio based off of the chords - Changed some instruments in the melody - Changed the intro to be more gradual - Moved the original intro to the middle as an interlude - Focused more strongly on the actual Zelda's Lullaby melody and removed the cut and paste work Edit 2: New Version: http://www.box.com/s/620m56lad31akkf3djmf
  8. I couldn't have said it better myself. Judging by the respones, I guess I didn't say it better myself.
  9. Well, they do, but the theme is still largely synth. I wouldn't call them entirely ambient either, but i'm looking for actual ambient, and stuff like them.
  10. I'm just wondering if there are any ambient tracks on the site. By synth I mean, with synth instruments, as opposed to samples, or a live performance. I'm hoping I can find a vgm remix that sounds similar to "God Is An Astronaut" Here is one of thier songs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwuazUXiE1o&feature=related
  11. Okay, a couple things: To everyone: Thanks for all the advice, and discussion. To Yoozer: Thanks for your information. My question in the first post is vague on purpose. If I had just asked a very specific question, I would have got a specific answer, but not have got the discussion I got from the way I asked the question.
  12. At this point, I don't feel like asking any more questions. I really don't see why this was so hard. Sorry if I offended anyone.
  13. Okay, fine, fair enough. I still see no reason for you to be so sarcastic though. And why didn't you give me those books in the first post? Which album did you work on? And if it's so obvious that I should read music theory, then why should I?
  14. Point taken that I wasn't specific enough. I was however trying to get some general advice to be able to help me as a mixer and composer. Right now, I'm just trying to make music in my DAW. Will learning an instrument help that? I know plenty (at least one) ocremixer that only uses a DAW for their music. If i'm just using a DAW will music theory help? BTW, I don't need a guide on how to ask a question. Everybody else here was perfectly able to answer my question.
  15. ...And I was just reading someone say how mature these forums are. As if. What gives you a right to insinuate that i'm stupid and asking an obvious question. It was not an obvious question. Writing original material and arranging existing music are two totally different things. It's like asking if you should learn french to work on Spanish. There similar but different. I've heard people say you don't need music theory. Why do you feel you need to be sarcastic in your response? You could have just said yes. You would have looked smarter, and it would have been much more helpful. What did you contribute to this thread anyway? To ocremix? Nothing. I can take criticism, even if it's delivered badly, if, I know the person giving it know what their talking about. I could go on, but It won't do anything. To Rozovian: Thank you for actually useful advice.
  16. I really want to learn how to be better at making music. Can anyone advise me on what to do to get better? Should I learn music theory? Should I try original music? What should I do?
  17. Alright, 80+ views and no actual reviews? Seriously? Not that I can talk cuz I don't always review a song I listen too, but I'm really anticipating some responses for this song. So, i'm shamelessly bumping this thread.
  18. Pros: Awesome bass, nice drums, the scratchy guitar sound is awesome. Great to hear a song from that gen. Cons: The intro was a bit long, before the guitar kicks in. The guitar is awesome, but seems distant and dull sounding. It could have used some more interpretation as far as the melody goes. I'v already heard the melody, I want to hear something new. Overall, I think it's a good mix, but it's only *good* not *great*. It could use some work, but great start.
  19. Wow... I can't believe I did that. Thanks. I'll fix it.
  20. I made this remix during a fit of nostalgia for my favorite game ever. Pokemon gold, and goldenrod city is one of the best. I tried to capture that feeling in the song. I know the ending is abrubt and i'm hoping for some advice on it. Tell me what you think. here's the link http://tindeck.com/listen/omtx
  21. Song of storms is one of my personal favorites. This arrangement really does the song justice. Beautiful, dynamic, and emotional. I don't know if it's ocremix quality simply because I have no experience with the quality bar, but I LOVE it.
  22. That single paragraph was more informative by itself than some guide to making music i'v ever read. Thanks for the advice, that's certainly something I will try.
  23. I appreciate the advice. I do have aquestion though. You said the rest was just notes moved or removed. I take it that's a bad thing, but the whole song centers around that melody, so i'm not sure what you're getting at.
