  1. Nice rhythms right away! Very interesting to listen to. The use of dynamics is awesome! It creates a very tense soundscape. I'm totally impressed! This is quite awesome!
  2. This... is... sooo... AWESOME!!! I mean, wow! Perfect to my ears. The vocoded voice is really cool too. Of all the mixes on this site, this one would be my first pick for sharing ocremix with friends.
  3. I've been looking at some of the older WIP's and found this one. I listened to it earlier, but didn't comment... Well, I'll remedy that now. I personally, only have a few issues with it. First, the reverb and delay on the sax seem a little overkill, and detract from it's effect. Oddly, I find the crackling before the main melody comes in is nice. Reminds me of a fireplace. The drums could benefit from having a deep kick. Maybe try something like that out, it couldn't hurt. Finally, I think changing the piano to a different instrument when it comes in the second time might help to advance the mix. Other than that, great atmosphere! Very chill and relaxing while also being exciting, with a touch of mystery from the piano. Try not to let this mix die, It's got a lot of potential, and a substantial amount of substance already.
  4. This is extremely awesome! Great chords and harmonies IMO. I love it! Is this really still in progress? Anyway, don't give up on this or forget about it (or watevaa) because it's really good. No complaints from me!
  5. Yeah, production wise, there's not much more to be said. Work on it a bit and you'll have a good starting point. That's not to say there aren't good points though! I like the rythm you have with the arpeggios in the background, and (to my ears) the transition to and from the green hill zone theme was smooth and natural. There were however, two things that I think stood out in the mix. First was that the section of green hill zone sounded like the lead was hiding because it was so quiet. Secondly, the ending felt rushed. Other than that, the only obvious issue is that it's pretty static. Not much dynamics. Just look at the visual sound cloud gives yous (can't remember what it's actually called.) it's practically solid. But the big issue is definitely production. I'm looking forward to hearing a revised version!
  6. Don't worry, I understood what you meant just fine. The high pitched flute notes at 1:10 are now piano notes, so it shouldn't be an issue any more. Sorry! Make sure to listen to the new interlude because I changed it up in response to your concerns. Check the first post for more details. I agree that the second part is stronger than the first, it's sort-of intentional. I tried to make it that way so the song evolves into orchestral riffage. Though it wasn't my intention for it to be unbalanced in that regard. Would you say it is? Anyway, I probably won't start with that section for the same reason. Actually, the reason it sounds like an intro, is because I started with that section and wrote it as an intro, later changing it into a transition. To Everyone: Do the new wave piano notes help or hinder the mix? And of course check out the new version!
  7. I'v had a lot of free time this weekend, and as a result here's yet another mix. This time, I'm working on a lamentably under appreciated song from an equally under appreciated game. The crashed frigate theme from Metroid prime. It's not quite an orchestral mix because I added a considerable amount of effects, but the bones are still orchestral though. Besides general feedback, I do have a few more specific questions. First, does the intro fit with the soundscape, and does it add to the song? Second, is the transition into the second section smooth enough, and if not how could it improve? Last, did I add too much change for the song, or does it work? I'm somewhat concerned it evolved too fast. Well, assuming I did okay on this, enjoy! Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/sunken-dreams-3 Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/sunken-dreams-2 - Added some rhythmic piano chords to the backing of the first section - Added emphasizing piano notes to the interlude in order to separate the different sections - Added wave-like piano notes throughout the melody - Replaced some of the flute notes with piano notes to give the mix a spacier feel before the interlude Version 3: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/sunken-dreams-v-3 - Extended the intro - Added various pads throughout to increase the atmosphere - Altered the volume levels for (hopefully) better mixing Version 4: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/sunken-dreams-7 - Changed the melody played during the intro - Changed the flute to an electric piano during the interlude - Made the piano solo section before the interlude louder - Put more work into the transition to that section - Changed the harp at the end into a piano - Decreased the amount of times the wave piano notes play - Added more reverb to the piano arpeggios in the second section Version 5: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/sunken-dreams-5 - Changed a few instruments - Altered some effects and volume - Took out some pads that were clouding up the mix
  8. Sorry if this has been asked before, but, are there any rules or recommendations on how often you should post in the WIP forums? I tend to have a lot of free time for remixing, but the amount of feedback in the WIP forums isn't at the same level, so I tend to work on other mixes I have in progress as well as make some new ones. On a typical weekend I could make 2 or 3 mixes, and I'm worried that posting all of them might be overkill. Am I just over thinking this?
  9. Thanks! I didn't know it worked that way. I thought it only was for the title of the mix.
  10. I'm no pro, but I'll do my best. My first thought is that the lead is Extremely dry and harsh. I would try to do something about that. The next thing I could tell is that the song doesn't seem to have any direction. Each instrument feels like it's playing a different song, and the song as a whole kinda' sounds like it's meandering around with no sense of direction or destination. Each section uses the same (or very similar) short melody repeated 3(ish) times and then moves to another section. The plucked strings in the background are nice. It might be a good idea to bring those out more. The instrument you chose for the ballad of the goddess section is nice. Though again, there's no direction. After that section, the end seems forgotten in the sense that it just ends. No outro or effects or anything. Despite it's shortcomings, there's potential for this... if you're willing to put more work on it 'methinks.
  11. Which is great if I want a broad search like "pokemon", or if I know the game a particular song is from. The problem is If I know the title of a song and what series it's from, but not the game. Say I want a song from A sonic game, but I don't know which one. There are 17 different sonic games, and as far as I know, i'd have to look at each game to find what I'm looking for. Assuming there are remixes of it
  12. I guess technically it would be detuned, but It needs to be very specific. And yes, I want to run that to one side, and the regular audio to the other. Are there any plugins that could allow me to only change the Hz level without any other effects?
  13. I added a lot of different sounds to the snare so it won't be as repetitive, and I gave the volume level another shot. I think it's as good as I can get it with my skill level and headphones. I'm currently using extremely low quality ear buds. I'm planning to get better ones soon though. I'm at a loss as to what to do with those weird notes. I'm sure it's just a lack of experience, but I can't hear anything weird. I may be able to catch them, if I had some idea where to look. If it's not too much trouble, could you point out what sections are off? I tried your suggestion with the piano, but it didn't help with the volume levels, because it's not as loud as the other instruments are in higher pitches.
  14. I am conducting a sort of experiment, and I need to know how to seperate audio into a different side of headphones. I know how to make the sound come primarily from one side, but I need to be able to completely separate the audio. To clarify, this will only work with headphones or ear buds. Any sounds leaking onto either side could ruin it. Secondly, and more importantly, I need to know how to take one track and duplicate the exact frequency, then raise or lower it by a small amount. Somewhere between <1 to 40 or 50 Hz. Does anyone know how to achieve these to effects within FL studio?
  15. It would be great if we could search for a specific song like "song of storms" or "brinstar". I suppose it wouldn't work for all songs, but most would be applicable if you included aliases for common song names. That could be helpful in the case where the real name isn't always used like "midna's lament" is also known as "midna's desperation", and "midna's desperate hour" (and I still don't remember which one is official.)
  16. Okay, I lowered the bass drum and you can actually hear the other parts now . I also changed the patch on the pizzicato strings, which should fix the delay issue. I noticed what you said about the flute not fitting, so I changed it into an arpeggio and it sounds much better. Are there any more BIG issues I missed?
  17. First, I (think) I fixed the scale issues. I shouldn't even be making those mistakes though ... I'll do better. I tried to change the volume levels, but I'll need much more practice before I'm good at it. That sums up the first update. How did I do?
  18. In an attempt to gain more experience, here's my first shot at orchestral music. I decided my last attempt ant Phendrana Drifts isn't worth going back to yet, so I decided to use that song. I think it turned out pretty well. Any opinions on the arrangement would be awesome because I was trying to put my energy towards that. Version 1: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/strings-of-phendrana Version 2: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/icy-strings-version-2 - Fixed issues of having notes not fitting with the scale. - Altered the volume levels to balance everything better. Version 3:http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/icy-strings-phendrana-drifts-3 - Added to the intro - Fixed more volume issues - Fixed more scale issues - Changed some instances of the flute to a violin - Fixed issues with notes within the chords clashing - Added a snare drum Version 4: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/icy-strings-4 - Fixed some notes in the intro - Added to the drum - Changed some of the chords in the ending
  19. Good Luck! I really hope this will get accepted. It's really awesome, and your dedication to the song is inspirational. I can't imagine it never getting submitted(seems like you would keep trying if it a got a No resub), but even if that happens, I'll keep listening to this track either way. Thanks!
  20. I changed a lot of the issues with scale and rhythm. I totally scrapped the flute lead and replaced it with a bell/pad synth. I also added an interlude and bass sections. It should be much better than it was.
  21. I know there are project files available on Ocremix. I think one of the more accomplished artists has project files for each mix. Would I be wrong if I said it was Zircon? I don't know if this has been done before, but there should be a sticky with links to project files submitted by all of our willing artists. I personally would appreciate any information on this because it would be great to learn from, and would definitely help out wherever I could. Does anyone have opinions on a project file sticky? Does one exist? If not is it possible(probable may fit better) for one to be created?
  22. Sorry, I totally forgot. The funny things is, that's not the first time I did that. Okay, now review.
  23. I'm really happy with how this one turned out. It's a chilled spacey version of the Phendrana Drifts theme from Metroid Prime. Check it out. Review. For people who need a link, here it is: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/floating-snow
  24. Here's another remix of the song of healing. This is by far my most favorite vgm song ever, and I can't stop working with it. I'm not sure if the lead is the right sound, but it sounds pretty good so far. http://snd.sc/rAwNPo Version 2 Link: http://soundcloud.com/jordanrooben/magic-healing-potion-v-2
  25. Alright guys, there's a new version. I think this is much better than the last one. Keep those reviews coming!
