An album called [edit] "megaman time signatures"
MindWanderer replied to Fb=MC2's topic in Recruit & Collaborate!
I actually did a Toad Man/Proto Man remix for the last WCRG in 3/4. Unfortunately, it a) also incorporated Wily 2-1, and b) sucked. If this project is still alive by the time I have time in my life for remixing again (HAHAHAHAHA) I'd love to take another shot at it. But seriously, MM4 is my favorite OST in the series, and it needs more love. I'd be very enthusiastic for a 3/4, 5/4, or 6/4 album. I don't think I've ever heard anything in my life in 9/4, but that would be pretty darn interesting as well. -
Castlevania: Cacophony of Incarnation 2016

I can't tell whether your vote went through because of the bug, so just vote for yourself if it still lets you. Since there's the same number of votes for each pair, I'm guessing that voting for each pair is required, so everyone else might as well do the same. I'm pretty sure that despite the bug, it will still only allow everyone to vote once. Again, this round was pretty lopsided, so I'm not going to sweat the details unless one of the pairs suddenly turns into a horse race. -

Just noticed another change: There's no volume control anymore. Just mute/unmute. I use that volume control a lot, since there's no consistent mastering in YouTube. -

The control icons are kind of smushed. Stop and pause look like one wide rectangle and one skinny rectangle. Not sure why they're even there, since the controls are in the video anyway. -
Final Fantasy VIII: Collision Course - History
MindWanderer replied to Brandon Strader's topic in Projects
Heh, could have sworn Brandon said he was done doing albums after FFIII. Glad he changed his mind, though! This is shaping up to be one hell of a tracklist already. (Was kind of hoping someone could finagle him into doing an FFMQ rock album next, but this is probably even better.) -

MindWanderer replied to MindWanderer's topic in Competitions
So, we'll live with it for this week. Next week we'll go back to vote-by-post. Asking everyone to just consistently vote for themselves works, but I want people to be able to confirm that they placed their votes the way they intended. I'll start using polls again when 4.1.8 gets installed on the boards and I can confirm that this week's poll behaves properly. -

MindWanderer replied to MindWanderer's topic in Competitions
Hm... well, the voting is all but unanimous for this round, so let's give the OCR staff a week to see if they can fix the voter display issue. If a few votes don't go through, or if people manage to vote for or against themselves by accident, I don't think it really matters this time. If it's still not working by next week, we'll go back to a traditional vote-by-post system. -
NOTICE: Forums upgraded to IPS 4.1.X (report issues)
MindWanderer replied to djpretzel's topic in Site Issues & Feedback
The "see who voted for this" poll feature doesn't work. It seems to load for half a second, then just collapses. Tried a couple of browsers. Oddly, inspecting the HTML, the popup seems to be loading a bunch of elements that normally belong in the HTML head (title, meta, and link tags). Oh, that's interesting. Didn't realize pasting internal URL's would do that. -

<opinion>That's your choice, but it's probably not a great idea. The goal of the compo is to make one coherent musical piece out of the two sources. If they sound too disparate, it would be cause to vote against your entry. For instance, I'm still listening to the entries from Alucard Round 1 and composing reviews, but it's apropos to mention "Burning While Submerged" as, in my opinion, not doing a good job of this. Granted, these two sources make it particularly challenging, but this entry sounds like two pieces joined end-to-end. It's much easier to make this work if you stay at a constant tempo throughout, or change tempo irrespective of what source is being used during what section.</opinion> Edit: Actually, on further listening, I take back this premature criticism. The transition is still jarring, but there are a lot of good examples in the second half of how to slow a fast-paced source down to match a slower one. -

MindWanderer replied to MindWanderer's topic in Competitions
Yeah, if it produces sound, I don't really care how you make it. Live sounds are great; similar compos even sometimes have vocal entries. The only exception would be sampled audio that you don't have the legal right to use; samples from Squaresoft/Square Enix games are explicitly prohibited for that reason, but people sample the heck out of Castlevania and don't get in trouble, so that should be fine. -
Castlevania: Cacophony of Incarnation 2016 Voting for the Alucard Bracket, Round 1 is open until Wednesday, February 3 at 12:00 PM PST. See the competitions calendar for your timezone. I'm going to try out the new forums' poll feature. Please keep an eye on the compo thread for updates, in case I need to nuke the poll and use a more traditional voting method. If you are not a participant in this round and do not vote in all three matchups, your other vote(s) will be discounted. If you are a participant in this round, do not vote in your own matchup, either for yourself or your opponent; just vote in the other two matchups. Download the remixes! Sources: Underground Caverns, 1797 (Crystal Teardrops) Burning Town, 1792 (Divine Bloodlines) Warakiya Village, 1476 (Beginning) Plant Castle, 1591 (Ripe Seeds) Munitions Factory, 1917 (Iron-Blue Intention) Master's Keep, 1944 (Gaze up at the Darkness)

This is the 3rd bracket. Alucard bracket started 2 weeks ago and just finished, Soma bracket started last week and is halfway through. -

Simon Bracket Sir_NutS: Entrance, 1691 vs. Trism: Wilderness, 1698 Jorito: Crumbling Tower, 1691 vs. War Machine: Dungeon, 1691 OA: Entrance, 1797 vs. YoshiBlade: Castle Center, 1852 The full schedule and brackets are here. Looking at it now, turns out it too minimizes the chronological distance between games. Not that that was improbable in this case. I'll get the music up ASAP, and the voting thread shortly thereafter. There will be a slight delay due to the fact that only 3 of the 6 were named correctly. At least we got all 6, good job everybody! -

I have 5 entries so far, just missing yours. Deadline is in 50 minutes. I'll be getting the new pairings up first, then the music as soon as I can. -

Less than 24 hours left for our first bracket! I have two entries so far. I know Yami and theshaggyfreak will have to do some last-minute work, but best of luck to them both, and hopefully we'll get a full set. -
Looking for futuristic animated movies/shows.
MindWanderer replied to Esperado's topic in General Discussion
Since Esperado's gotten a lot of good answers so far, let me semi-hijack this topic a little: I have a small child at home, so I'm looking for shows I find interesting that I can watch with her around. Anime is out because it's hard to read subtitles while interacting with her, and most dubs are pretty awful, plus a lot of anime is pretty graphic. I just finished The Clone Wars, which fit the bill well, and I'm going through Batman Animated. The Legend of Korra is also on my radar, but it's not on Netflix and only 3 of the 4 seasons are on Amazon Prime (which are the two services I subscribe to). Any other suggestions? It doesn't have to be animated, but it does have to be PG. -

Never noticed that similarity, now I can't un-hear it. Although Chernabogue did set it up so you could link the image directly, what you should probably do is download it, then upload it to Dropbox, imgur, Photobucket, etc. Then in your signature, use Insert Other Media->Insert from URL on the URL that service gives you for embedding. (If you use Dropbox, change the end to ?dl=1 instead of 0.) Yeah, you'll probably want to adapt them both into the same time signature. Sometimes people do this by switching back and forth, and that doesn't usually work very well. -
Questions About DAWs and VST Plugins
MindWanderer replied to Irnon's topic in Music Composition & Production
REAPER is pretty garbage out of the box when it comes to synthesis. It has a sampler, but that's it. It has solid EQ and compressor functions built in, but you need VST's or WAV's, or a microphone, if you want to make any sounds at all. I think C700 is the VST you're thinking of. Not terribly friendly, but if you want to rip instruments straight out of the SPC files, that's the way to go. -

That's correct, signups have closed. The first set of voting begins Jan. 27, for the Alucard bracket. Well, for those of us that aren't very good at transcribing by ear, a MIDI can save a whole lot of time. Especially since that source is so long--almost 3 minutes before looping! -

Soma Bracket wildfire: Abandoned Castle, 1479 vs. Esperado: Forbidden Area, 2035 Chernabogue: Underground Caverns, 1691 vs. Magnetic Ether: Inner Quarters, 2035 Supercoolmike: Inner Halls, 1476 vs. Chalis: Dance Hall, 2035 Amusingly, while the Alucard bracket minimized the chronological distance between each pair, this bracket maximizes it. Which is pretty cool, since it means there's an Aria of Sorrow component to each entry of the Soma bracket. Again, this is just what the random number generator pulled. How are our Alucard mixers doing? Hopefully you're all at least halfway done! -

Well, voting begins when the submission period ends, so your deadline is here. If you feel that's not enough, I can add the remixing periods to the calendar; I just want to make sure that casual visitors to the site are able to see the voting periods as clearly as possible, to spark interest. -

MindWanderer replied to MindWanderer's topic in Competitions
I'm not sure how interesting it would be to non-competitors, and the sidebar is already a bit cluttered with just the voting rounds. I'd rather keep the signal-to-noise ratio as high as possible. Once the final bracket is revealed, I'll put up a page with the full calendar. Until then, just remember that you start remixing a week from tomorrow.
