Great mix! Overall, the drums need lots of variation, they're somewhat boring at the moment. The part that begins at 4:13 until around 5:08 gets very repetitive. Try to vary it up or something. I love where you go with the arrangement at 5:09 but it bothers me that you went back to the trance-y stuff at 5:22. In my opinion, continuing and ending with that section would have worked better. Also, little pauses like the one around 3:04-3:05 seem off, maybe put some LttP sound effect in there?

mod-review Of Men and Monsters [Pokémon / progressive dubstep]
Elder Kirby replied to Synthony's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
When that bass first comes in at 0:42, it sounds really muddy and awkward. The bass in general is way too muddy (even for dubstep/brostep!). Also, it sounds like you used the same bass throughout the song, and hearing that really obvious bitcrusher gets annoying quickly. Try adding variation by alternating between another bass or two. The drums sound really dry as well, add more reverb to them or something. I love the sources you used for this though! And that Ghastly sample was a nice touch at 2:47 Even so, I feel like you stayed too true to the source. Try adding your own variations to the themes here and there. Right now your mix is very repetitive. -

Very nice! Me being a bass player, that bass interlude really made the whole arrangement wonderful -

I'm not too fond of the section right after 3:14, I feel like it ruins the flow of the song overall. -

Oh and one more thing: Your mix stays very true to the source, which isn't bad, but you have very little original parts, if any. I suggest rewriting some sections and whatnot. I like this mix a lot, it reminds me of the very relaxing music of Super Mario Sunshine As such, I think an accordion counterpoint could work here, so try that. I wanted to comment on your stereo separation, but I lost my headphones so I can't tell if it's done well or not. Alas. -
wip Final Fantasy VI - "Coin Song" & "Edgar and Sabin's Theme"
Elder Kirby replied to jnWake's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
The section following the 2 minute mark gets very noticeably repetitive, maybe you could add some variation to that violin? I like this a lot, though. Very smoothly made. -
Ah of course! I haven't played Twilight Princess in years, I forgot everything. I still think the whistle is out of place in the mix, though, despite being a clever addition. Now that jnWake brings it up, I see that the strings up until around 0:30 are very grotesque and in need of a replacement or change.

Chimpazilla, I love the nature samples you added! I think the sample of the bird tweeting at 2:19 sounds off and strange, though. Also, the hihat during 0:50-1:45 and 2:33-3:06 sounds very mechanical, it could use some more humanization and/or fills. A very good mix, though. I thoroughly enjoyed it! Good luck

wip Zelda 64 - Shop Theme Remix: Tranquil Shop Marketing
Elder Kirby replied to Hicky Eighth's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Very nice! I only have two complaints: Replace the synth at 0:50 and where ever it appears elsewhere. It sounds too off, and there are other ways you can make a synth sound airy. Add some variation and fills to the drums! They are very stale at the moment. Also, at 2:57 or so, when the bass came back, it all sounded very clashy and off. -
finished Metroid prime - Chozo Ruins N-FETT dubstep remix
Elder Kirby replied to luknft's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Nice! Jordan pretty much said all there is to be said already. Smooth out the parts where the tempo slows down and speeds up, and fix up the drums abruptly ending into the coda. I don't like the added filter on the bass at 2:38, it makes it sound too "electric" and obnoxious, even for a dubstep track. The drums are very nice, but lack a lot of variation. I like the Tallon Overworld themes you included as well I love the drop, I think that little tweet synth with the delay makes it perfect. Lastly, because there is not much variation, the song drags out quickly and the listener would get tired. Part of a good dubstep track is to keep the energy or feel of that first drop pumping throughout the rest of the song. -
wip Talc and Diamonds - Kakriko Village (Twilight Princess)
Elder Kirby replied to jordanrooben's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Very nice piece. You should extend the crash's reverb to have more decay at 0:27. If it were a real orchestral setting, it wouldn't have cut off so quickly. Like Rex already stated, the intro is far too right-heavy. I don't know what you could add to it though, lol. The part with the bell from 1:31 to 1:51 is far too dry and repetitive--spice it up. That bell that comes in at 0:54 is too "constant"--after the first bar with it, its 16th notes get stale. I suggest adding some arpeggios, maybe? Overall, I feel like you did a good job with the panning, but the first half of the piece lacks the "oomph" of a strong middle section. I like this piece though, I hope you finish it off with a nice ending! Maybe try an ABA' form to finish it off? -
The drop is very smoothly executed, which I like. I like how the bass changed up a bit after it. Progression is always nice! Before that though, the synths—like people have already mentioned—need work. It all sounds too dry with no variation. I also noticed this weird nuance with the very first guitar: every two beats or so, it dipped a bit in volume, and it wasn't very pleasant to listen to, right off the bat. Also, everything seems to be relatively in the front, and there is little to no panning going on—this just adds to the dryness. The background is like, completely empty. Add some little arps here and there. This has potential! Keep at it

This wouldn't really hold up as a standalone track, so I recommend adding drums to the mix, maybe some light ghost hits here and there. Even though I actually LOVE your arrangement, it doesn't progress anywhere, so adding something like drums can spice it up. Or something. I do have to say though, you did some very smooth mixing

I feel like it's not metal enough. Throw in a solo! A breakdown, even. The song's not quite aurally dynamic, a bit on the dry side. I like the drums though And +1 for the source! -
wip Cease to Exist / Master Porky's Theme
Elder Kirby replied to Ghost Voltage's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Adding on to what jordanrooben said, you don't have much dynamic or aural variety. I like the arrangement and source tunes, but you have to work on your mixing a bit. The sudden vocal sample is a big minus; I think both of the samples are unnecessary, actually. I would try to make the song longer and add a middle section maybe, where you can develop slight ideas. -

Elder Kirby replied to DusK's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
I agree with jnWake, you should add a little something to spice up this otherwise relatively dry mix. A healthy dosage of slap bass is always nice EDIT: Plus adding an audible slap bass can give it that Sonic feel -
The Newbie Introduction Thread: Come on in and say hello!
Elder Kirby replied to Mahaboo's topic in General Discussion
Hi guys! My name is Elder Kirby, but you can just call me Dennis. I've been producing sub-par original work since 2008, and I've been checking OCremix every now and then for quite a while. When, to my dismay, I searched for some of my favorite games to see if there were ReMixes of them, I saw that there were none. This motivated me to see if I could pioneer in those games by being the first to get posts for them, so here I am! Of course, I am far from there—in fact, I am very mediocre when it comes to producing. Nonetheless, I hope to improve my own skills through striving to make a decent ReMix. In the meantime, I can now at least contribute to conversations and help review WIPs . I hope to get to work on ReMixes for Tomba 2, Wario Land 3, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland, and of course, Earthbound and Pokemon R/S/E
