  1. Hey, this is nice. It starts out really haunting and brooding, and develops into a very motion picture score-esque song. The strings and horns and all really sound nice, and while there are a few flaws in the quality, all in all it sounds nice. The arrangement is very smooth and fluid. I don't really know what else to say. Loved it. YES
  2. Er, wow. This is really really really repetitive. The mixing's bad, the song's generally quite loud, and all of the sounds seem to have come from a very cheap sound module. NO
  3. Relatively speaking, this isn't bad. However, upon looking closely at just what's going on in this song, it's really really boring. The arrangement's a clever idea, but really isn't executed well because it just seems so long and drawn out and the entire song seems to build and build and build just to... end. The sounds are really not nice. I kind of like the lead synth with the portamento on it, and the bass isn't too bad, but just about everything else is very not nice. The drum programming is really quite scary, in fact. It also starts just like the original. Nice and abrupt. Mixing's lacking something. The drums seem a bit too lad in comparison to everything else, and the bass is slightly overpowering. And I'd really have to suggest going with a higher bitrate encode, like 160kbps. The panning of everything is pretty effective, though. NO
  4. This is really lacking SOMETHING. I mean, I can point out what I think is wrong with it, and maybe that'll help the diagnosis, but whatever. Here goes: The drums are super ultra weak. Not good. Plus, the drum programming isn't very lively to begin with. The distorted filtered lead that comes in later kind of drowns everything out. Some of the earlier synths aren't very fun. Dying for some EQing. Even with my Winamp EQ settings, it sounds kind of muffled. Found myself yawning a bit. That doesn't bode well. On the brighter side, here's what I liked: Nice choir. Probably the nicest sound in the entire remix. Arrangement wasn't too bad, although I can't be certain it's all that different from the original, since when I play Halo, I really don't pay much attention to the music. The ending was pretty... okay. All in all, I think what I'm trying to say is NO
  5. Well, it's been about three months since I submitted this, and I PMed djp about it (although he may have just missed the PM or something), but I figured it was high time I gave you all a chance to judge ME. So, here's my remix of Sandopolis Zone from Sonic & Knuckles. Enjoy
  6. I'm YES for all three of those. Having also played Counter-Strike for about three years or so, I can reinforce Prot's statement by also pointing out that there is indeed NO music in that game.

  8. What the HELL is going on with that snare? It sounds so... so lifeless! Almost as though the drummer playing it is beating it with socks filled with catfood... And I'm going to have to agree that the EQing on this is phonky. The high end is really really powerful (that hi-hat is sizzling right out of the human ear's frequency range), and the middle feels hollowed out... especially that snare... Plus, most of the important parts of this song are really soft and not in the front of the song, for example: the strings, the trumpets (not as badly as the strings, though). Lastly, the fade-out ending is really... awkward feeling. Might want to just try bringing the drums into a fill and ending it on the sustained tonic. NO
  9. Well, I liked the synth work, especially that hugely phat synth bass that comes in at 1:02. The drums, although simple, add to the retro feel that this song has. The sound effects in the beginning were pretty nifty, too. I only wish the arcade near here got that active... To top everything off, there's the nifty soloing at the end. Not a hugely spectacular song, but good enough for me to want to give it a YES
  10. Indeed it isn't. It's just 64th notes on the clap that pan around and drop in pitch. Nothing too special. I was just tired of doing boring old snare builds.
  11. *sigh* Not another Ice Cap Zone remix... Okay, well, first off, the bass is crap. It sounds sooooooooo fakey. The drums are a little bit on the weak side. The synthline at 1:24 is pretty quiet. The good points outweigh the bad points. The flute solo is fantastic. The synths are very suiting, and even though the drums are weak, they still have good groove, like Vigilante said. The arrangement is really quite dynamic, and I think that this remix, DESPITE BEING OF A SONG THAT'S BEEN DONE OVER AND OVER, is pretty good. I like the ending, too. Very video-game-ish. I think that if the Ice Cap Zone song was redone for a Sonic game on the Gamecube, this is probably how it'd sound, albeit with a better bass (as in, a REAL studio-recorded bass). YES
  12. The vocals almost entirely kill this. I encourage writing lyrics (which were pretty decent) and recording vocals, but I suggest that if you're going to record vocals, at least make it sound like it wasn't recorded through a cheap $15 computer microphone. Everyone else pretty much hit all the problems with this one. But yes, "leary" is a word, he just spelled it wrong (leery). EDIT: Whoops, yeah, my vote: NO
  13. Everything analoq said, except I happened to also find this song to be boring and overly drawn out. NO
  14. Well, no matter what you "double-checked" (since you didn't double check with ME, the remixer), I based this remix on the song from Super Metroid. I don't remember the music from Metal Gear at all.
  15. Wow, some of these sounds really Roland-ish. I mean, really Roland-ish. Like, I seem to recall hearing some of them on my MC-307. Hmmm... Anyway, the arrangement is mediocre. I'm not sure about it though. I mean, this song is really weird. It merges speed trance with rock (guitars??? Definitely not the greatest samples...) and... I don't know, it's just really confusing. It's not totally awful, but it really just seems sort of jumbled. The fade-out ending was pretty strange, too. It fades out, but there's an ending there. I CAN HEAR IT! I KNOW IT'S THERE! YOU CAN'T FOOL ME! NYAHAHA! Well, anyway, I'm going to have to go with my gut feeling on this one and say: NO Too much clashing of samples and genres and stuff going on here. It also seems to be a lot like the original... doesn't really bring much to the table in the form of nifty arranging.
  16. Starts out smooth, albeit a bit boring. Stays kind of boring for quite awhile. Very very minimal on the percussion. The arrangement seems pretty nice. I like the fade-in's on stuff; they help make this thing seem even more smooth. Very light and easy on the ears. Sounds are quality. YES but only marginally. I'd say add some more percussion next time to keep this thing more interesting, but as it is, I'd say it's good enough for the style it's in. Seems shorter than it really is, too.
  17. Hahahaha, definitely not. I mean, it's pretty much the EXACT SAME as the original, and the original didn't even have much to it! The instruments are... annoying. This is practically SCREAMING "Heeeeeeey! I'm a MIDI rip!" I mean, the drums are even the exact friggin' same as they were in the original except for the addition of some strange kick drum rhythm later on. *yawn* NO
  18. It's... pretty bad. This one really has "FL n00b" written all over it. The mixing's all jumbled, the arrangement sounds like a MIDI rip (might be), it's actually PAINFUL on the ears. Definitely a NO
  19. Mrmm... this one's pretty boring. There's some neat sample arrangement, but the actual arrangement itself is rather dull. The mix is really really really dry and lacking any sort of life. The drums are incredibly dull too. I mean, with techno type stuff, you'd at least expect some cool drum work, but what you've got here is a single drum loop and a 4-on-the-floor kick drum rhythm at one point. The song is WAY too short, and nothing happens. NO
  20. Actually, you can use the event editor from the start to make your automations. Also, automations can be put on any number of patterns, not just a single master automation pattern.
  21. Anyway, I forgot to mention that I made this song not long after having purchased Underworld's "A Hundred Days Off," and as such, the percussion is heavily Underworld-esque. Listen to some of the stuff on that disc and you'll probably be able to tell.
  22. I wasn't originally going to submit this to OCR, but since I'm still working on finishing some newer (more original) material, I sent this in as a bit of an appetizer, so to speak. Gman, despite what you heard, none of the samples are default FL. I refuse to use default FL samples unless I'm experimenting, but you will not hear them in any of my songs on OCR (except for the oldest of old). Not sure what wrong notes you're referring to, either... If DiscoDan didn't catch any back when he judged it for IMC10 (and if my memory serves, he didn't), then I think it's safe to say there aren't any. Also, this really wasn't what I would call "something new." It's pretty generic trance, but I put a lot of focus on the rhythmic work. I often find myself falling short in the drum department when trying to make some trance, so here I was just making sure the drum work was interesting enough. Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of this remix, but it was awfully hard to remix the song, and this style was the first thing that came to mind when listening to it in the pre-production stage.
  23. It's not that it's a complicated problem that you're answering, it's the way you're answering it. You're so damn thorough in your explanations.
  24. Well, I like the percussion programming, for what it's worth. The rest of the sounds are pretty nice, but I'm afraid samples alone won't earn a yes from me on this one. Like the others said, I hear some notes that just sound wrong, and it's all in all pretty boring. NO
