  1. Oh, uh, for those that haven't been following the thread in the Works In Progress board, I updated my WIP. http://www.paletteswap.com/beatdrop/Beatdrop%20-%20Sonic%20&%20Knuckles%20-%20Catapult.mp3
  2. http://www.paletteswap.com/beatdrop/Beatdrop%20-%20Sonic%20&%20Knuckles%20-%20Catapult.mp3 There are some issues in this WIP that I haven't gotten around to fixing yet (mainly mastering issues), but this should give you a good idea where I'm going with mine.
  3. MotherFather? As in... You stupid motherfather chinese dentist! ????
  4. "This is FUCKED UP!" I love how the Bemani fans come out of nowhere when a new DDR/Beatmania remix goes up.
  5. Oh, right. I read it wrong. Well, I wanted them to be different, since I was rerecording them anyway, and since I discluded the heavy swing that was in the original (except during the chorus section, there is some of that swing), I decided to throw in a little KMFDM flavoring, which djp hit right on the head. And I'll agree that it's mastered a little funky, but after I finished it and heard it in my car and finally decided that it was a little high frequency heavy, I was just too tired from working on it to even bother fixing it.
  6. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA EDIT: Don't worry, I'll get you one of me SANS FINGER (and also sans cigarette).
  7. *jealous* Aww! I wanted to do a song with tefnek! Haha, anyway, this remix rocks out. Fantastic programming of FL's BooBass makes it sound pretty damn realistic and makes for one hella funky bassline. The drums are like AE meets Mint Royale, which is pretty standard fare for tefnek, but it's something he does fantastically. I love the chiptune breakdown in the middle, too. Great string work reminds me of tefnek's "Damn I'm Cool," and makes for a super lively and massive addition to this song. It all layers together really nicely, and you're left with a masterful electronic composition. Nice work.
  8. Hah, very cool. To all involved with the project, congrats. It's a huge step in the right direction for all of you, ya know?
  9. Just because a lot of other people like something doesn't make it good. Keep that in mind... Thanks for the comments, everyone. Feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated.
  10. Uh, what's wrong with the strings? Are they broken? The way they release doesn't sound natural at all... As has already been noted, sound quality is a little lacking, although I'm not sure why. This is encoded at 160kbps, so it shouldn't have that nasty hiss throughout the entire song... Yet there's the hiss. I kind of like the arrangement, although some sections of it don't fit with the general flow and come off sounding forced, such as the chunk at 1:54, which I'm guessing has something to do with the unison. Could just be me getting thrown off, I don't know, but that part in specific didn't seem to fit into the style. I know it was in the original, but... I also have one major issue with the arrangement: it almost seems like it's just the original, except slower. Essentially, to me, the arrangement came off as sounding incredibly boring. I really don't know what to suggest to remedy the problem, but inclusion of maybe more instruments to fill up some of the excess would help. Empty space is important in arrangements like this, but it seems like there's just too much here. This one's kind of close with me, I think. Improve the sound quality (why is it hissing?) and throw in a little more variety or something to keep things interesting, and it's as good as YESed. Until then... NO
  11. Yeah, it's a dead link for me too. Anyone able to upload it elsewhere so we can finish judging this puppy?
  12. I don't know what Wingless is talking about. This didn't hurt my ears at all. I really enjoy the ideas presented here. The arrangement is very cool, and it almost makes Castlevania 4's music sound like something out of Super Metroid. All of the sounds used seem to work together quite cohesively, and I can't hear any quality issues. The bottom line for this one is that, while it may not be the most AMAZING thing ever, it definitely adds new interest to an old song, and, in my opinion, transforms the original. The arrangement is really kicking my ass, and between that and the over all sound quality, I'd say this is easily up to par. YES
  13. Actually, the true original was simply called "Gentle Stress," and first appeared in DDR in 2nd Mix Append -Club v2-. It originally came from Beatmania, I believe, although I don't know off hand which mix/style. Also, here's the original: [removed] The remixed version, from 3rd Mix, which I assume the remixer specified this remix came from, can be found here: [removed] As for THIS remix: Immediate impulse is that, as a song which seems to be trying to emulate the actual style of the original, this isn't as enjoyable. Some of the sounds used are kind of neat, but really, this isn't much different from the original. The drums are lackluster, which isn't a good thing when this particular style of music tends to focus on drum work. Lots of repetition here. And I'm sorry, a guitar playing the SAME solo, but with a few pitch bends thrown in, just does not spice it up enough. Over all, there just isn't enough here. Most of the song sounds really empty and as though it's missing something. I think part of the problem is that the piano is taking on the role of the bass, and it just doesn't really work here. Some of the key changes are pretty neat, but... I don't know, I guess I'm kind of borderline on this one. Spice up the drumwork, maybe add a REAL bass line, and, if at all possible, less repetition, and I'll give it a YES. NO
  14. LOOOOOOLARRY WEHERS TEH CAHT TARNSPRICT?!1?!11?!1?!#!?1@!?? I WUNT 2 C WUT PPL THOT OF MY SOGN!!!11!1 lololololololol XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
  15. If for no more than your weird ass camera behavior alone, I give it a FUCK YES
  16. FL is a great program, but only if you're able to use it so that it doesn't sound like FL anymore. Aside from the ones you've mentioned and that others have mentioned, a big part of it is how you master your songs. FL has a tendancy to sounds REALLY thick, so you need to EQ it carefully. Sometimes, exporting to .wav and mastering that externally is the best way to go. In the same line with the default samples that come with FL, avoid using the default synths unless you REALLY know what you're doing with synthesis. 3xOsc is going to sound like 3xOsc no matter what, unless you have had tons and tons of practice programming other synths. A big part of it is usage of effects, though. You can even make FL's default synths and drums sound great if you're able to intelligently use the effects that it comes with. Basically, think outside the box. If you use it like it looks like it's supposed to be used, it'll sound exactly like it's supposed to, and that's what you want to avoid.
  17. I remember hearing this back when it was in its WIP stage. I didn't like it. But this? Fucking awesome. The drums are fantastical, but the main thing that snares me is the synth work. The synths are all so incredibly diverse, yet they all fit together perfectly. Also, despite the length of the original, SGX managed to make this one strongly anti-repetitive. The LFO filtering and amplitude modulation = r0x. The thing at 1:42, the pad or strings or whatever, is awesome. Sample rate reduction phased upwards and then back down with that LFO effect... snazzy stuff. It's things like that that my production quality has been lacking lately. Truly an inspirational remix. I didn't hear anything wrong with the piano. It strongly resembled the original, to me. Also, the synth SGX came up with at 2:50 is fucking perfect. It was different in the original; kinda gritty yet flat and smooth. In this, he's got the really stabby distorted brass sound for that melody, and it just works so well. This is one of those remixes where you can listen to it and tell he spent an assload of time on it, and it really paid off. This makes me want to remix more Beatmania stuff.
  18. Perfect, Larry. I'll leave the money at the spot in the train station that you wanted it left at. Also: JustinZero: who played the guitar on beatdrops mix JustinZero: because i swear i heard guitar on it Gahahaha, gotta love it. Just so JustinZero (and everyone else that couldn't tell) knows, it's a fake guitar. Synthesized. Gotta remember that I'm an electronic music purist most of the time, and 95% of what I do is synthesized.
  19. Please tell me Haroon didn't turn "The Great Escape" into a trance anthem. PLEASE tell me that.
  20. Man, looking back, that really was a god damn great show. It feels epic, in retrospect. If you ask me, Larry, it seems like there was a good mix between good interviews and absolutely silly and hilarious "interviews" and other phone calls. It... it feels like it was just one big party. You know? Or am I alone in thinking that. Alas...
