  1. Absolutely amazing. Reminds me of Nightmares on Wax or Layo & Bushwacka! Great stuff. As DJP's write-up says, it's absolutely amazing what QuinnFox did to the original tunes to convert them into this stylized piece of jazzy downtempo here. "Theme for Counterattack" in particular had a 3/4 time signature and was really fast and crazy, while "Mass of Cloud" was really slow, ambient, and was in 4/4. Yet he took both tracks and merged them into a cohesive, awesome remix. And yeah, this soundtrack definitely is a bitch to remix. I've tried a number of times, myself, and I still intend to tackle Defense Line / Raid! at some point.
  2. Have they? Oh well, still information that hasn't been included in this thread

Less flicker when resizing some windows (unless detached). Some VERY exciting things have been added. I can't fuckin' wait.
  4. Some more info hot off the press: An e-mail was just sent out by Image-Line notifying FL users of the imminent release of FL6. The FL Studio website was also updated with new tutorials/previews for FL6. Check it out here: http://www.flstudio.com Also, here are some more screenshots: The new mixer (linked because it's frickin' huge) http://www.paletteswap.com/beatdrop/New60Mixer.jpg Delay Bank - Appears to be a multi-tap delay plugin with some extra sweet functions Reverb 2 - Speaks for itself FPC 2 - Now includes envelope control and two banks of pads instead of one Also, the new graphic EQ plugin allows you to store individual EQ settings into 8 different banks, and then morph between them, allowing you to make drastic EQ changes with the automation of a single knob. Any single band in the EQ can also be sent to any FX track in the mixer. As for Delay Bank, it has a whole bunch of features that are bound to make some really sweet sounds. It has two filters built into it, one on the signal and one on the feedback of the delay. Both contain all the standard filter types (LP, BP, etc.) and both have three different slopes (which I'm assuming are 12db, 24db, and 36db). It also has a Grainulizer built into it, to allow chopping of the feedback. All of the delays being run by the Delay Bank can be used parallel or serial to each other (in other words, independently or with one delay feeding into the next). More news to follow as it is made available.
  5. No, I strongly doubt that. FL's MIDI functionality isn't that complex. Shit, MIDI isn't that complex. Since the actual audio coming out of the synthesizer and the MIDI data it's receiving/sending are completely seperate, there's no way FL would know to send note data, receive an audio signal, record and mix it in with all software-created audio, and render the whole thing. Using the MIDI Out to have it playback a sequence, recording that, and then dropping it in as an audio clip or a sample is pretty much the only way to do it unless you're working with a synthesizer that has USB functionality. And the JP8000/8080 doesn't have that.
  6. Some software compressors have as few as two or three knobs. The only knobs you really need on the thing are ones for Ratio, Threshold, and Gain.
  7. WIP, potentially finished: http://www.paletteswap.com/beatdrop/Remixes/bd-ssf2-feilong.mp3
  8. FL's default selection of effects processing units is very substantial. As has been mentioned, the Parametric EQ is superb. zircon is also 100% correct in his statement about not needing to put an EQ on the master track. The only reason you would need to is for rolling off frequencies below 20 hertz, above 18-20 kilohertz, and to balance out broad ranges of mid frequencies or increase whole ranges of frequencies in general. All specific EQing should be done to each individual instrument, and I strongly suggest using a Parametric EQ on every single FX track. It can certainly add to CPU usage, but it's very crucial to getting the acclaimed "professional" sound. EQ aside, FL has a fantastic array of effects processors. Flangus is pretty much the only chorus/unison plugin you need, Fast Dist is great for dirtying up a sound (while Blood Overdrive will chew it up and spit it back out), Delay 2 can function both as a multi-tap and a tape delay (without all the added bells and whistles), Reverb is quality and more versatile than a lot of other reverb plugins out there, and there are even more specialized plugins currently in beta and on their way.
  9. It's so nice to see one of my songs up on OCR again. Thanks everyone so much for your comments. This one was a long time in the making, and has been a song I've planned on remixing since I first discovered video game music remixing so long ago. I personally feel I did it justice, but I leave that up to you all to decide for yourselves Enjoy!
  10. With classic KMFDM lyrics in your signature, I'd expect nothing less.
  11. I don't know how (or why) my song spawned (I'm awful with puns right now) a discussion on the relation between industry and sex, but I'm rather frightened.
  12. Beatdrop, your music always kicks. 'Specially love that Sonic 2 Strip Mine mix, but Reprocessed has made its way to my new car mix already. Most excellent. Makes me happy to hear that coming from one of the people whose involvement in this project has been viewed as resulting in one of the best songs available from it. Be on the look-out for my new Sonic & Knuckle remix, to be posted soon! </shamelessplug>
  13. Awesome! Glad to hear there were some people that liked my song, especially people that were involved with the project.
  14. Means a lot to see you make that one of 19 posts you've made on these forums. Thanks for your comments, Bart
  15. So... does having met me make my track BETTER or WORSE? (And I ask because I haven't seen anything said about it yet except from one of the guys on DoomWorld who said he pretty much hated everything except it... which is either an insult or a blessing. I'm not really sure.)
  16. Between the two of you, I'm entirely sure that's probable. Thanks for your comments And here I was worried the percussion was the weakest part of the song.
  17. Just thought I'd let you guys know that I actually finished that Flying Battery Zone remix I was working on. It came considerably sooner than expected (AND THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID! HAW HAW HAW!!!). Submitted it to OCR earlier today: http://www.paletteswap.com/beatdrop/Remixes/Beatdrop%20-%20Sonic%20&%20Knuckles%20-%20Catapult.mp3 Enjoy.
  18. Understood; apology accepted. Wasn't blaming you for it or anything, it's just a matter of how it was interpreted by others. Er, uh, I guess I'll take that as a retraction of your "elitest prick" statement. ... EDIT: Oh, and good luck with the remainder of the project, everyone.
  19. December 28th, 2005. I'm a Cryptologic Technician (Collective), or CTR. I'm hoping for a CTI position to open up before then, which is the Interpretive aspect of Cryptology. In the meantime, I'm working for Amazon.com. Go me.
  20. Whoa, holy jesus. I missed the part where I was being called stubborn and an elitist prick. What Snapple Man failed to mention is the main reason I saw it fit to just drop out of this project entirely. I currently have so many things to do, musically and otherwise, that I didn't see any reason to bother competing with someone over a song when the end result could have been that I wasted my time on something with relatively low importance. As it stands, I'm working a full-time job; I'm in the Delayed Entry Program for the U.S. Navy; I'm working on music for an arcade game; I have TWO albums in the works, one of which is two discs; I'm trying to come up with a rock-solid remix to make my long-overdue reappearance on OCR; and all the while I'm also trying to fit in time to have something that remotely resembles a social life. So from where I was standing, it seemed like a much better time to devote my time to things that I KNEW would make a difference in some manner. I'm still going to finish the remix, I'm just not doing it for this project. And even then, it'll still be months before I have it completed. I'm confident that Hatchet will turn out something great in my stead, especially without having to worry about me competing with him. So there you have it.
  21. Agreed. Yeah, I goofed on this one for some reason. Sorry 'bout that. I have no idea why I made the mistake. Simfiles probably aren't sorted properly.
  22. Evil, evil font... And evil outer glow, too! So to sum up: if it wasn't for the text and evil jaggies around the edge of the the image of Kirby, it'd be a good picture.
  23. OKAY, so uh, my computer kind of ate itself last Wednesday. I was carrying it down the steps to my porch to bring it to my parents' place over spring break, and I slipped on the ice, landed on the bottom step on my tailbone, and the computer landed on my chest and broke a couple ribs. Later found out that this fried my videocard. Soooooo... I think what I'm going to try to do is get FL Studio installed on my new machine (the one I'm using right now) and then pull the song file off of my other hard drive to finish it up. Sorry for the delay
