  1. I've been looking for an upgrade anyways. I just bought 4 Gigs of RAM over the summer (upgrade from 512mb). I'm no expert with computers, but my processor is a Pentium 4. Do I need to upgrade that if I want to get a decent graphics card, or can I get something worth while with that processor?

    (Yes, I have PCIe.)

Kinda depends on what the speed is, but a Pentium 4 should be okay.

If all you're playing is Source games, the HD 3650 should be more than enough for your needs and costs $35 after rebate.

Or if you're planning to expand from there in the future and have the cash, check this thread for more graphics card recommendations.

  2. Incredible Machine 2, The

    Toonstruck

    Typing of the Dead, The

    $10 for any of these.

Dragon's Lair Deluxe Pack (includes DL 1, 2 & Space Ace)

    Space Quest Collection

    King's Quest Collection

    $15 for any of these.

I'm going off eBay prices, so if you can't let them go for so cheap, I'll just get them there.

  3. I currently use a Geforce en7600gs video card. It's fanless and does everything I need, but I want to upgrade to make Team Fortress 2 a little smoother - also, I think some of my plugins are running a bit slow because my graphics card is having trouble keeping up.

Would this be a good buy? Would I get a decent power upgrade?

With regard to the "should I upgrade" question, I've found this chart to be fairly useful. It shows the 9600GT as being 10 tiers above the 7600GS.

That said, this chart is actually part of a monthly feature TH does called "Best Video Cards for the Money." Their <$100 section suggests the 9600GSO, HD4670, and HD3650. The 9600GSO is a bit cheaper and is only one tier lower. It actually performs roughly equal with the GT at lower resolutions because it has more stream processors, from what I've read.

The HD4670 is about the same price as this 9600GT, but what may interest you is that it has an onboard soundcard with 7.1 LPCM support via HDMI. So if you've got an extra-fancy surround setup you could get Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD signals without them getting downsampled by the S/PDIF passthrough. Not to mention it would save you a lot of cabling.

The HD3650 borders on a joke recommendation, but you really can't beat the price at $35, and according to the hierarchy table it's actually 3 tiers above your current card. :< So if you're on a *really* tight budget you might consider it. (Plus it comes with WoW. :DEdit: Apparently it's also silent! :) )

  4. Unless you rip the cartridge to the ROM file yourself and never distribute the file.

According to whom? To my knowledge it is 100% illegal to dump a ROM image, regardless of method or intent.

  5. Importing the game does not make having the ROM legal, just more socially acceptable.

No hinting at using other means of communication to exchange information about ROMs. Keep it off the boards.

You realize that you just hinted at using other means of communication to exchange information about ROMs? :D

  6. Haha, "No, I'm not a dentist." I like how all the bosses are gay for Mega Man.

BTW, what happened to the winning entries of the Metal Man vocal remix contest? They just kinda float off into nothingness?

Also I just tried the MM9 demo yesterday...

    I couldn't beat it. ;_;
