  1. hello all, I was hoping you could provide some thoughts on a recent interview special that I and the other directors of the Reno Video Game Symphony did with our local public radio station on video game music and our orchestra. I feel like Michael was actually really respectful of video games and didn't show the usual veiled condescension I always hear on video games in the news, if not outright spite. Sorta like comics in the 80's and 90's. Annyhoo, here is a link, and thanks for checking it out! http://www.kunr.org/news/reno-ensemble-performs-greatest-hits...of-video-games
  2. I really like everything about this. The music is really vivid and full of imagery, and the way it was released was fun without being too kitschy about the Mayan calendar. I think it's also a great gesture to start an album with a beautiful atmospheric track. It suggests that there's a lot in store rather than just a sequence of loosely connected songs.
  3. you could put more organic feel to the choir, OR you could go even more synthetic and give it those sharp cutoffs and attacks of the Super Metroid days, if your samples hold up that is. When I think of wintery choirs, I imagine very sharp attacks with little to no marcato. Well, obviously your track got my ears turning, so suffice to say tha I quite like your track, it's wintery without being Christmasy and dramatic without being melodramatic. Nice!
  4. I like the step filtery noise at the beginning, I think it adds a nice colour to the palette. The track is suspenseful, and I was imagining a lot of even more tense touches that could add to it, the arpeggio that repeats and ends the track has a lot of potential to tighten up dem anuses
  5. I like it. I get turned off by many big bassy electronic styles, so this is right up my alley. I can easily imagine this being played live, (except maybe some of the runs after 2.00 )
  6. thanks! I may get to submitting recordings from the orchestra to this site. I was impressed/compelled by the fact that the submission guidelines are more specific than most radio stations.
  7. I like Flesh War, it reminds me of Killer 7, which is to say it's awesome. You have a cool style, with some mastering and bass compression you would have a cleaner sound too.
  8. yeah, I'm a big fan of Nigel Godrich's style of production and I enjoy having enormous transients on everything, but that sidestick starts to lose some of its rhythmic impact at times.
  9. I enjoyed this. I really like this tune and I WILL NEVER hear enough of it. The lead up to the piano solo was the only part that seemed meandering, which from my experience is the easiest thing that happens when jamming on this tune. Other than that, you did a great job of keeping momentum in the song.
  10. are you putting reverb on the master channel? for drums I would suggest using individual verbs at several different hi and lo cuts. you can use much more verb on the other parts of the set if you limit the verb on the more distinct hihat, as an example. otherwise, that mix sounds well balanced.
  11. very lyrical drumming. I'm not accustomed to the hihat sound, and it seemed very opaque in the mix, which made it stand out a lot. I saw this game at my local store recently in their big pile of old ps1 junk, almost got it for a couple bucks before they googled it. sounds awesome.
  12. I suppose this is as good a place for an introduction as any! My name is Kevin Fredericks, I like this site a lot. I direct the Reno Video Game Symphony and I recently started recording remixes in my own studio space rather than with the orchestra. Melodious Punk's Secret of Mana Remix That's where I put it. I know this forum is one song per thread, so I just put the link up for my remix of "A Curious Tale" by Hiroki Kikuta. It has a viola in it!
