I really hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I couldn't listen to that for very long. That really high synth is piercing. Maybe someone else can chime in and tell me I'm crazy, but I think you definitely need to cut out the top end that synth.

Wow, you remixed two of Yamaoka's really abstract industrial tracks? Wish I was that brave. And it sounds pretty good too. I can easily imagine Ogre from Skinny Puppy singing over something like this. Parts of it may sound a little too similar to the originals though. At the same time I feel like that's a weird criticism. I'm not even sure how to critique something like this. Does OC Remix even cater to abstract music? Shit, I don't know. It sounds good though. I would love to see what some of the mods say about it.

Thanks a lot! I'm definitely gonna center the vocals, I heard someone else say this as well. I liked the sort of moving incorporeal feel to them, but I definitely get the criticism. And if it's more distracting than ethereal, then I'm gonna lose the effect. Vocals will be fixed. As far as the tuning, I'm not sure. Maybe someone else can clue me in on that with another pair of ears. It may be weird that the first 2 verses are sung in a lower fashion than the chorus. It was to emphasize the fact that it's two different people (James in the verses, Mary in the chorus). Anyway, I'll see what other people think about it as well. I could just be terribly off key and not noticing. Singing is definitely my weakest musical ability, I think. As for the drums, I kind of agree with you. The issue here is that the bass line, which I consider to be kind of the driving force of the song, was built around the idea of a "four on the floor" kick and snare. This is incredibly noticeable with the chorus bass line. In fact the interplay between the bass and the drums was initial inspiration for the entire direction of the song. Maybe I could add better fills or something. Or maybe the drums are so loud that they seem to be a focus. I don't know. I'll play around with it. The snare is made up of two Yamaha DX7 snares and more modern thin "clicky" snare. Maybe that modern one is the problem with the sound. I'll definitely play around with designing a better sound for it. Again, thanks a lot for the critique. I'm gonna try and get a little more feedback and then get back to working on it with the criticism in mind.

Bump for mod review.

My first thought: the lead synth could definitely be better. Right now it sounds a bit lacking in fidelity, and a little too weak to be leading the rest of the arrangement. My intuition is saying that it should definitely be a heavily distorted electric guitar, but I recognize this as just my intuition; the main point is that needs to get the hell up and lead. It sounds like it's a bit too shy to do that, haha. I feel like this is a big part of what makes it sound unsatisfying. Also, I'm really not feeling that oscillating synth that comes in at about 1:30. I'm not sure what I would replace it with, or whether I'd keep it at all, I just feel like it isn't adding to the song as much as it's taking away. I actually really like the opening. It has a nice atmosphere and I can definitely see the Mass Effect influences. And I really like the bass. The arrangement as a whole isn't bad. It's definitely not shitty. I've heard shitty. This isn't. But this also isn't living up to it's full potential, which I feel like it has a lot of. I would start with finding better sounds to drive the arrangement before worrying too much about the structure and transitions, though.

I don't have my headphones on me, but even over my speakers that sounds a LOT better. You had to sort of strain to get the melody out the previous version, but it's right there in the center on this one. Very good work! =)

Holy shit, I really like this a lot. I don't have any insightful feedback, I just wanted to say that. This is really good work. From my limited orchestral experience, it sounds mixed well, and I really like the arrangement. Good work!

I'm really terrible at judging pieces like this. Mostly because it's something I have very little experience producing, so take this for what it is, I'm probably just going to say something stupid, but these are my initial thoughts. First off, the Splatoon soundtrack is awesome. And this mashup sounds awesome as well. For the criticism, I'd say that the percussion seems a little high in the mix. Also, panning the snares to the far sides seems like a mistake to me. I feel it would sound a lot better with the percussion more centered and maybe play around with the panning of some of the melodic instruments. All and all though, it's a pretty great song, and I enjoyed it. =)

This sounds really good, but the mixing could use a lot work. I honestly wouldn't say that I'm great at mixing myself, but from what I can tell almost everything but the main synth is way too low in the mix. That is until about the last fifth of the track where one of the lead synths climbs way too high. I wish I could give some better advice, but again, mixing isn't my strong suit either. It just takes a lot practice and patience, paying attention to how all the different frequencies react to each other, and finding a proper balance.
