  1. @Ronald Poe Hmm, that is actually inspiring me to make a video tutorial. I use schematist's guides occasionally (at least to help me get started with a composition). So here's my two cents on your song. My first question is what kind of game is this meant for? I can personally see this in like a small mobile app RPG. Pros: Distinct tone throughout, interesting and unique sound So my critique is that you should mainly look at the dynamics of the song and how it progresses. Commonly, a battle song will open with an intro that establishes that a fight is about to occur. Usually it is upbeat and somewhat chaotic (listen to the Pokemon RPG battle intros). Preferably, I would recommend making markers throughout your DAW's timeline to shape how the song will play out and so that you can keep track of where your at and not feel too overwhelmed. (for instance: intro for 4 measures followed by intro melody for 8 on and on). A down part would also be recommended to place before the big chorus to sort of give that calm before the storm effect. The beat and melody seem a bit repetitive and stagnate, even for a battle theme. The beat you use throughout the song would be good for the intro, but I would change it up to a 4 on the floor beat or a something a long the lines of that. Format the song as if you were telling a story, I like to base my music off of how most music is formatted today. So for example intro, verse, bridge chorus, verse, down bridge, BIG CHORUS, outro. However, I don't stay true to that completely, because its videogame music, it just needs to be a be able to loop properly and set the tone. I think what this song desperately needs is a good hook. Whether it's in the intro or the main melody. I would also work on humanizing the beat and melody. Right now it seems a bit robotic and stiff. The Rhythms for the drums and melody need to be a bit more conventional and inviting. I would also add a few more melodies or arpeggios under the main melody to add a bit more depth to the song. Anyway, keep up the work man! More practice will only improve you over time.
  2. @Ronald Poe Thanks for the kind words! It's an honor to hear someone say that! I'm glad that you really liked it. I put some good work into this one. Kingdom hearts is also one of my favorite games of all time, especially its amazing soundtrack. The only advice I can really give you is just listen to a lot of battle themes and the way they are composed (If you need some help look up a tutorial there are few good ones like from Schematist!) Anyway, thanks again for the kind words it only helps me want to progress even more in my music!
  3. Here is an album I made. Feel free do download it if you like it Album Art by: ClassicGamer76 Deviant Art: http://classicgamer76.deviantart.com/
  4. Decided to make a JRPG battle theme. All feedback is welcome.
  5. @Irnon I think this picture is a suitable response. Thanks a lot man!
  6. @classic_gamer_76 Glad you love it! Yeah I can agree with that, the symbols do seem a bit overbearing at some points. I tried to turn down the velocity before this draft, but I think I may have to do it a little more now that I think about it (especially the china symbol). I did not add any saturation to the drums, they naturally sound like that I think turning down the velocity will help with that issue as well. I'm still debating whether to add this to my album or not, mainly because of it's genre. I can make this the final boss theme or something along the lines of that. Originally, I was going to make the album a more synth/electronic/rock based album but I don't think I can help my self anymore from adding metal into the mix xD. We will see once I flush out the album a little more when summer rolls around and I have more time to work on it. Anyways thanks for the feed back as usual!
  7. Wow! I really enjoy this style of music! Great job! I may give this album a buy
  8. Not entirely sure about what I'm going to do with this song, but this is my latest song I've been working on. I may be adding it to the album I'm currently producing, still not sure. I would love to hear (or read) thoughts about this. Maybe some improvements or what you overall liked? Thanks
  9. Here is another remix of mine from The Sonic the Hedgehog OVA. This time I worked with ClassicGamer76. A big thanks to him for doing some of the programming. All feedback and thoughts is very welcome! From the Land of Darkness: and if anyone is interested here's my remastered version of For the Land of the Sky: If anyone is curious on where this came from here's a link to the OVA:
  10. @djpretzel Awesome, thanks for the advice. And yes I agree I would rather work within the DAW than the tool. I watched a tutorial on it and it looked alright, however it didn't have all the features I wanted. I'll check out battery 4 for sure. Break Tweaker is on sale for the holidays for 99$, (even though you have yet to use it) do you think it would be worth the price? Thanks!
  11. Hi all! I was looking into a program called Break Tweeker by Izotope and was wondering if anyone has used it and what their thoughts were about it. Was it worth it or not? (It's on sale atm!) Thanks
  12. Yay! I'm currently on vacation and just got WiFi at my hotel. Glad I could catch this album in time for Christmas! This was my first entry to any OCRemix project and it was definitely a learning experience. Thanks for letting me tag along!
  13. Thanks for the replies guys, I didn't even get the update notices for these O-o..
  14. What I've learned in the last few days: never force an idea, let it come naturally.

  15. Wow thanks for the great feed back! I'm glad you could envision that even though I pictured something slightly different (actually I don't remember what I exactly envisioned when I made this I think I was going for 2d shooter??). Anyways thanks for the comment!
  16. Good question, however there is a synth patch during the second part of the song. I wanted to make the song mostly fantasy with a hint of sci-fi, I felt the synth bass line gave it a bit of a futuristic vibe in a final fantasy like world.
  17. https://soundcloud.com/matthew-matriciano/land-of-frost-village-theme here is a little project I did in one day, it's part of a two part series I'm doing mainly to test the waters of rpg music. All feed back in welcome! Thanks
  18. I hate it when I can't be inspired.. aka writers block.. it's the worse feeling of counter productivity.

  19. I know exactly what you mean by the ending being a little loud after. I figured that out after listening through my headphones. Thanks for the feed back and kind words! I have been working on my mixing and mastering skills for a while now and I'm glad it's finally starting to pull through. For the ending, however, I'll see what I can do it make it seem less abrupt. I personally didn't mind the abrupt ending because of nostalgic reasons ha! Well anyways, thanks again!
  20. Not necessarily a video game cover, but a song from an OVA based on the Iconic Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm pretty sure some of you have watched it, so hopefully the few will appreciate it. I kept it relatively structured the same as the original, but added a guitar solo and used a guitar for the majority of the lead lines. Hopefully it turned out okay. All critique is welcomed! https://soundcloud.com/matthew-matriciano/for-the-land-of-the-sky-remix EDIT: I noticed everyone linking the originals to their posts so here's the original for mine. https://youtu.be/ehJAm6ACO5M
  21. https://soundcloud.com/matthew-matriciano/battle-for-the-future Here's a random track I made for fun. All Critique is welcome!
  22. Hello,, I have been searching all over for a vst program that can produce the same sound fonts used in N64 and Play Station consoles. So far all that seems common is 8 bit and commodore 64. If anyone has or know's of program that can do this, it would be much appreciated to let me know ^-^. Thanks!
  23. https://soundcloud.com/matthew-matriciano/xcom-ufo-defense-theme-metal-remix-1 Okay, so here is what I have so far. I'm hoping I cleaned it up at least a little bit. In comparison to my original it is easier on the ears xD lol
  24. Alright, I was messing with it all yesterday, I think I got it a bit less muddy (definitely a lot to improve on). I'll definitely try that, and thanks for the motivation I appreciate it!
  25. I'm currently using mix craft 6 as my DAW. In your opinion, what instruments need to be turned down (besides what's been spoken about prior)? I'm think the rhythm guitar and maybe bass is a little strong, stronger than what they should be, but that's just my thoughts.
