  1. It's a good mix. Doesn't make me wanna get outta my seat and praise the high heavens for it, but a good listen nonetheless. It only seems to get good for me around the two minute mark.
  2. Oh my, oh my God the effects! There's so many! This is really good. Being an effects lover like I am (after all, that's the one thing electronic music has that other styles don't) I couldn't help but love repeated listens. A very good listen.
  3. This sounds a lot like the original. But aside from that major flaw, it really grooves well. You can put this on and space out... Which is good if you want to space out I suppose. Not one of DD's best, but still a good listen.
  4. Heh, you guys thought it was real? The drumbeat alone gives it away. Although that is a nice rimshot sample...
  5. Wow. This is so sweet. I don't really know what to say. The way it transitions from piano to dance is incredible! Some of the synths just kick me in the ass with their coolness. I can't believe this is the Arris dome song... You've done a very nice job with this. Keep it up!
  6. Very emotional. I like it a lot! EDIT: Ahh yes, many days later and I decided to come back to this review I made on the fly. I think the best thing this song has going for it is how you can almost feel the emotion the player put into it. At least, it SOUNDS like he put a lot of emotion into it. It's not technically outstanding ( I still couldn't play it) but it sheds an emotional light on a song that prolly sounded like boop-boop-beep back in the old days. Disturbed shows how to create tension and release best right at 2:35. I think that's a great touch. A very nice solo piano piece.
  7. I thought it was pretty good. Not insane magic good, just, good. 1:20 - 1:40 hurts my ears. After that though, it really gets good. If it wasn't for that section this song would be a lot better. I think you did a nice job avoiding the standard techno percussion. And I didn't think that bassdrum sounded ANYTHING like a FL default. But whatever. Good song, not great though.
  8. This is awesome! I'm not sure what genre I'd call this. It isn't exactly funk, but it DEFINITELY isn't jazz. Or at least I wouldn't call it jazz. Well anyways, while I enjoyed the whole song, I loved the soloing a lot more than the rest of it. Sometimes it seemed almost... corny. But like I said, it's awesome, and very deserving of the first "FUCKIN" I've ever seen Darkesword put before "SOLID". AmIEvil R0x0rz j00r b0X0rz!!!!11
  9. Not as emotional as it could have been with better samples, but a lot worse than it would have been without the Hitler samples. That is, the Hitler samples make it better. I liked it a lot, but sometimes it seems like it just doesn't have the impact it could. Oh well, it's still a GREAT mix. Keep up the magic Mazedude!
  10. It's 7:45 AM Eastern time and there're already 4 posts? Wow we have some serious insomniacs here. Anyways, I like how energetic this remix is. Sometimes though, the percussion which should be the base of the song goes off and gives the song a strangely disconnected feel. That only happens a few ties though, and overall this is pretty good.
  11. 74 MEGS!!?!?! Well, anyway. This mix kicks massive amounts of arse! I absolutely loved every minute of it. It's great. Just, great. Oh, and I personally thought the chords at the jam section were a nice little touch. Just so you don't think everyone thought it was off.
  12. Very, I guess the word I'm looking for is "clever" to take a lullaby and make it a rockin, almost industrial mix. I love it how the beat drives this song. And when the piano chords playing quarters notes comes in near the end, it's aural bliss. I likes it.
  13. Considering his samples don't r0x0r my s0x0rz, this is a great mix. Basically, that means if he had better samples this would be a totally bad-ass mix. I was a huge Super Double Dragon fan and loved the music in that game. I'm not a huge fan of the transitions, but they didn't make me stop and go "what the hell?" which is a good sign. And the drumming kicks massive ass. Overall, won't blow you away, but it definitely isn't bad.
  14. Although I'm not a huge classical fan, I have to say this is absolutely amazing! The quality of samples, and the way it's been put together are completley flawless. It really does sound like it was performed by a real orchestra! I always expect good things from Russel, and it's good to see he still has it. Oh, and bassoons kick ass! =D
  15. Actually, correct me if I'm wrong but Harry Gregson-Williams did not write this particular song. I think it was written by Rika Muranaka. =)
  16. Good stuffs from the mazedude. I expecially like the blending of hi quality synths like the choir and bell with lo-fi squares and saws. Not to mention that sweet "reverse echo" on the whistle-type synth. The percussion really helps keep it interesting, and doesn't play as large a role as I thought it would. I have no real complaints, and have to congratulate mazedude on his 20th remix here at OCR.
  17. This song sounds a lot like "c64vibe" by slaveone. They both have the main melody being played by 8-bittish square waves. They both also kick ass. I especially love when it kicks from the "dorky" square into the dance sections. And the panning at sections like 1:47 adds a cool little effect. I also like the majorly reverbed bongo hits at the end. Nothing really wrong with it, just a nice little diddy. Overall, good stuffs!
  18. Wow! I can't believe you pulled this off! Well, I can believe you pulled it off, but I can't believe you pulled it off so well! I noticed most people have problems with this mix because they like either classical or techno, but not both. Some people say you shouldn't have put the techno in, and others say you shoulda made the techno part longer. I think it's awesome the way it is, and is incredibly well done. I think it's good to see such a good batch of new remixes. Some of the best remixes I've heard in a long time have come out so recently! It's kind of a shame though that this mix has to be classified either FFVII or CT, even though it's both. But it's so good, anybody looking for a good FFVII shouldn't mind a little CT thrown in. <=)
  19. Short and sweet. The way I like it. 'Course, I have it on repeat to compensate. The lead is the sweetest thing ever. And the panning is brilliant. Adding it to my collection heh heh <=)
  20. I bow to DJP's incredibly accurate ears! I guess I shoulda known better than to doubt a guy who's so much older than me. And yes, it's a great mix regardless.
  21. THIS MIX KICKS MY ASS!!! There is absolutely NOTHING bad I can think of in this mix! It's sheer perfection! It's come such a long way since I heard it as a WIP so long ago. Oh, and that whole piano matching up part DJP says is off, well it sounds like it fits in to me. It's heavily syncopated, but I believe that's to give it a jarring feel. And while the dropping of a 16th note at 2:43, 2:51, 2:59. and 3:07 may be strange, it isn't "off". These drops are what cause you to think the main chords at 2:56 that lead into the key change sound "early". Really though, they are just syncopated oddly. Overall, one of the best mixes I've heard on this site.
  22. Heh, I was reading the reviews and I was thinking "What the hell's wrong with these people? This mix is awesome!" Then I saw that they were talkin about a DIFFERENT mix. *phew* good to know people haven't lost their minds. Well, what can I say? This is some sweet straight-out trance. I like the way it starts. Kinda creepy, and all-around better than just playing the kick drum for the first few measures. The vocal samples are sweet and kinda reminded me of Indian music or something like that. They give a good atmosphere to the song. The ending isn't great. But I guess it's one of those "let's repeat the beat over and over so the DJ can mix into another song" endings. Overall, good stuff. And I don't wanna ever hear someone say "we have too many <insert genre here> remixes!!11." EDIT: Oh, and it's REALLY wierd that two people remixed the same song in the same style around the same time. The lead synth is almost exactly the same too. Wierd.
  23. This mix is great. Haunting, and trippy. It's amazing what Ben's done with what little he had. It puts every song I've ever made to shame. It's funny that something this great can be found on the same site as something as horrendous as One Winged Techno http://remix.overclocked.org/detailmix.php?mixid=OCR00185 And in response to Solid Snake's statements that "everything but the middle section isn't his" and "half of it is the exact original", everything but the melody is Ben's. Which is a lot more than can be said for the majority of mixes on this site, where some people take everything but the bass line from a song. (but there's nothing wrong with that) So while it's ok to have an opinion like, "I don't like this song", don't be insultin a remixer's skillz. =|
  24. This mx kicks ass. I'm a big jazz fan, and I would have to say this is almost not jazz. It's really some wierd jazz techno hybrid with that driving beat. Not one bad thing to say about it. Keep up the goodness Mazedude.
