  1. I could never beat that evil demon of a game, but this goofy little mix still brings back memories. Tons of charm is all it takes to make a simple song a great listen. I like.
  2. Boy, do I love Cox! Er, that didn't come out quite right... Anyway, this piece really sets a great mood. Right from the start , with those menacing cellos at :30. I love oboes, and they get put to good use as well shortly after. I have minor qualms with the key change at 1:45. It kinda ruins the mood. Also, I find the organ/flute section to be a strange one. The flute sounds like it hits some non-aggreeing notes. Especially with that last one, as the organ plays a sus4 thereby clashing badly with the note played by the flute, being a half step interval. Of course it could just be my ears Very very impressive stuff all around and a great addition to my collection of music the RIAA can't touch!
  3. SGX never ceases to amaze me. I loved this mix three months ago and I love it now. It sets a great mood and has a perfectly aquatic atmosphere. And when those huge swells come in, I can't help but spooge myself! Er, I mean, yeah... The ICO mix needs to go up next!
  4. This is great stuff! I have always been a "wall of sound" type of fellow. Meaning, I don't mind a lot of stuff going on at the same time. And this really fits the bill. It starts off quick and never lets go. Even in the "soft" parts the drum processing goes balls out and the background synth work blazes. The gating really rocks too. Reminds me a lot of J:/Drive's Chrono mix. I absolutely dig every aspect of this mix! Just awesome stuff.
  5. This is incredible! The quality is simply dripping from this piece! The samples, the arrangement, the mastering, it's all perfect. Although at times something would come up and it would sort of ruin the feel by being too Midi-ish in execution, they are rare and overlookable. The feel of this piece is very cinematic and you can feel the emotion coming out of it. The breakdown at 4:20 made me soil my pants with its sheer awesomeness. I don't know enough about the original to pass good judgement on the arrangement, but it sounds a lot like the original. There are some parts I don't remember from the original though, so I guess those are your parts. Ah hell, with this kind of quality you could make a MIDI rip and I wouldn't care. This is just nice stuff. Nice Work!
  6. I thought this piece was quite funkay. The drum programming at points is very well done. The organ too pulls off some nice moves. And that flute solo, oh man, talk about jazzin up somethin' not normally jazzy. Now the slap bass, I'm sorry, but it sounds like the sample from my cheap Casio keyboard. The bassline is really groovin' all theoughout, and I thinks give a great sense of movement to the song, but the fact that it is so thin and un-meaty just turns me off. It's an overlookable thing though, and I absolutely love this mix.
  7. Sounds like you were trying to stream it without a good connection, but anyway... This is awesome. The groove factor is through the roof. And at times the great mastering reminded me of some of Radiohead's earlier stuff, which is a great example of excellent EQing and such. And as a drummer I have to say it's good to hear electronic music that actually grooves as well as this. A lot of people seem to just toss drums in there as an afterthought, but this actually sounds fantastic in the drum department. The effects used are used very tastefully, and the whole mix just makes you wanna get up and dance. I could see this being used at the end of an auto insurance company commecial. Don't ask. Very Nice Work.
  8. At first I was listening to this and I thought "Oh man, how did this get past the judges?" The bass seems off rythmically at some points, and there isn't anything really well tying the parts together, as the hihat also is very jumpy. But then at about 2:00 it kicked into high gear and I really started diggin it. The brass is what really seals the deal. Those hits make me smile.
  9. Maybe this isn't my bag of tea or something, but I thought it was pretty mediocre. (No offense Coop! ) It just seems to sort of wander. I've never heard the original, and maybe that's why I can't feel the movement of the piece. I don't get any emotions out of listening either. But music isn't meant to please anyone.
  10. Wow, this is very different. A lot of different motifs coming together, and the song just changes as it moves along. The orchestral breakdown caught me by surprise. This reminds me in ways of Pink Floyd's "Run Like Hell" with the panning and subtle melody. I have to give mad props for making a good beat in 5/4. It's typical for beats in 5/4 to sort of stutter, because they'll play a rythm that's really more of a 4/4 groove with an extra beat. This beat flows like Dave Brubeck's "Take Five". So, kudos for that Adhesive Boy. I suppose I could go on about other aspects I like, such as the contrast between sparse piano and complex drums, but that'd be somewhat convolutted. I just love this piece.
  11. A nice song overrall. The main part really is the title, but the break is really rather dark. I liked this mix, but felt that it was missing something. What was there was all well and good, but it almost feels like everything is there adding support to a melody that doesn't exist. It ends up giving me this feeling that it's more of a soundscape deal. Which is fine in itself. I liked it, and it made me happy, which is all that really matters. Nice Work!
  12. DJP's older stuff has a sort of, "cartoonish" sound to it. Like some kinda crazy all over the place effects processing, and interestingly matched synths. Pretty much all of his old mixes had this sound and this one's no exception. A pretty bland reinterpretation that doesn't really feel like it takes any risks and uses some pretty lame synths. Thankfully, DJP has gotten a lot better nowadays.
  13. Yay! Mazedude r0x0rz! it's good to hear yet another different mix from his others. I'd like to say that although this doesn't blow me away with it's goodness, it's still a good listen. I'm surprised that of all the themes from SF2, someone chose Sagat's. I never even thought of it as all that good a song, with the likes of Guile and Ken still un-remixed, but I guess that just shows how varied people's tastes are. This whole mix seems to sort of flow and breathe, with even the percussion being more sporadic and living than your typical drum beat. The choice of effects and synths does give almost an "underwater" feel, an overrall, I think this is a lot better than I could've done with the source material.
  14. Wow, this is pretty awesome. The songs flow together well and all, and the samples are absolutely insane they're so good. I think it overcomes the common medley gripe, in that it all sounds like one cohesive piece instead of a bunch stuck together. Kudos to Dale North, who can do more variety of styles of music than I thought possible.
  15. Wow, I guess I got my post deleted by DJP, that's kinda cool. Anyways, this is great stuff. If I didn't know it was electronic beforehand, I probably could've been told it was real and not second guessed it. The sax sounds fantastic with the over compression and when the keyboard comes in it really sounds old-school. When I was reading the write-up I was actually thinking "Wow this is so Pulp Fiction!" So I guess DJP really hit the nail on the head with what he was goin' for. I love the Booster song, and this is a different, yet whole-heartedly satisfying song to kick off the next 1000 mixes.
  16. Yeah major jammage goin on here. The solos really are the clincher for me. Some very nice drum work at ~3:30 as well. Not to mention the basswork shortly thereafter, and pretty much throughout. A nice little tune that makes for a fun listen.
  17. Wow. These guys really are pro sound. The whole mix is a little quiet if you ask me, but all you have to do is turn it up so that isn't exactly a horrible problem or anything. This really thrashes, reminds me of 80's hair metal. For some reason though, this doesn't get on my nerves at all like the hair metal does. The way this is recorded it sounds like it's a bootleg, which makes me wonder if it was recorded in a large room or something... Overall, very good stuff.
  18. I thought it was quite funny to hear E-Bison referred to as a "newcomer", seeing as how long he's been here and how long I've had his songs. What can I say? This piece is awesome in every way. High-quality samples, interesting arrangement, numerous added bits and an opening that reminds me of Pink Floyd. Nothing to not like about this song. It puts me in a good mood each time I hear it. Now we just need more of E-Bison's stuff to get through the judges...
  19. Wow. This mix is truly incredible. It really is a very simple piece, but it conveys emotions very well. I want to put it in my playlist, but I feel like putting anything after it would just not work. A very good track.
  20. F***in nice. I needed a towel after I heard this mix. This is quality stuff right here. I actually liked the second half better, mainly because I actually know the song. But the whole song really just kicks ass. I don't know what to say... This is just really damn good. Kudos to The Wingless.
  21. This is a fantastic song. Goes from a soft little diddy to a full-blown rockin' tune. Granted, SGX is right in that that first synth (sounds phased) doesn't really do anything too amazing, but I think it gives the song more movement. The harp also helps in this area. The synths overall are well used and not bad by any stretch. The drums do their job well and REALLY get goin at 4:25, with those Bass Drum Hits of Doom. DJP's right in that there's no strong bassline. Occasionally I hear some low end noise, but I can't even tell the notes. Good ending though. Overall, this song knows what it's doing, and never really lets down, making for a good listen. Kudos to you, Ubik.
  22. I don't know if it was intentional, but since the name of the track has no subjet, the ID tag reads= Where Destiny Meets OC Remix. Kinda funny. Anyways, this piece is of the smooth jazz elevator music mentality, where if it wasn't for the chord progression this probably wouldn't even be jazz. At first I felt this piece didn't develop enough, but that's an unfair judgement. As is, this is a very good listen. The electric piano gets me in that mood. Unusual use of choir samples, but I like it. Then there's the bass, which I feel almost MAKES this song. It grooves like any good bassline should, eating small children along the way thanks to its low frequencies. The drumwork gets the job done, and fits the "elevator music" style while. One thing really got to me though... The ending. It seems so abrupt. It goes from a suspended chord back to the tonic chord, but still feels iffy. In my mind it never seems to resolve and it gets me everytime. Overrall, a very good piece that shows jazz has a place on OCRemix. And we need more of it.
  23. Here Gecko gives us another "Trippin' " mix to add to our collections. I like this little mix. Nothin screams out at me as being wrong. And nothing really blows me away. It's just a good little Streets of Rage mix. I like the Band filter on the piano, sounded like a poor recording. The violin was a nice change, and the bass was sweet. I also like the free filtering done on the synth in the background of the violin section. Nice Work!
  24. Hmmm.. Repetitive, uses default FL sounds with no effects, and the melody is drowned out by the annoying analogue synth. No sir, I don't like it.
  25. Yeah wow this is good quality stuff. The drop-out at 1:31, which is the best part, makes me question if it was good to even have drums in this song. I like I like.
