  1. Still no entries. I will give it one last extension, for 2 days, and of nobody enters, then HarlemHeat360 you will have to send me another source for next week.
  2. I’m away for two weeks, and there’s still no entries, so I’ll be generous and give it a weeks extension. Hopefully we have some entries soon.
  3. Welp i forgot about this, but thanks for the kindness anyways! Also thanks to all who voted for me, and congrats to the rest! Source coming your way!
  4. No entries, so we have another 2 day extension. Although it appears closed, the submission box is still open to get some submissions in. I might put my hat in and dedicate some time to this, we'll see....
  5. Saved Harlem from being the only entry. It's been a while...
  6. I said i was gonna provide some thought's, so i need to follow up on my promise. TheOrichalcon - I am reminded of Kurt Harland's score for the 2nd X-Men game for the Sega Genesis. A really gritty dirty electro styled number but with a more acoustic kit. Lots of killer sound design here, that darts back and forth between dubstep sounds and oldschool synth work. It's very cool and catchy. Nothing to critique really, well done! JH Sounds - There's that JH sound i know and love. He is known for being a ThaSauce member more than a OCR member. Lovely melody here, it's quite adventurous sounding. The melody can get a little repetitive after a while, i would maybe opt for a texture change or something, but it was a lot of fun, and quite enjoyable to listen to. Well done! APZX - Very spooky sounds, but in the context of a quite harsh electronic synthwave kind of feel. It's got a really nice eurobeat kind of synth melody, and a very tight kick. Lots of lovely and amazing developments for it's 3 minute runtime. Lovely new melodic ideas and changes throughout. I don't know if it's perhaps a little too compressed, i had to relisten to make sure. Maybe it's the way it was sidechained, i'm not sure. However the arrangement was on point, this was a lovely enjoyable listen. Well done! Gotta keep on top of voting i'm so behind lol.
  7. Ack i forgot to submit for this round, i've been too busy. Great entries all around though, congrats to Unknown Pseudoartist! Next round i'll try and make it hopefully. Well done all! Couple thoughts on the submissions: Hleet had a nice overall rock band sound to it, lots of really nice acoustic instruments (Even if they might be a little dry), and a lovely arrangement. Well done! Unknown Pseudoartist has a more atmospheric sound overall, whilst still retaining some of the orchestral parts and the drums. This one also features a few more synth leads, which remind me a bit of Nintendocore. The leads are not as present as they are in Hleet's mix, and the overall sound is a little more sharper (Not in a bad way). I really like the arrangement here, well done!
  8. Congratulations to HarlemHeat360 for being the only official entry for Round 140 (Ignoring my Bonus Entry), resulting in him/her winning the last round by default! As a result, he/she get's to choose this month's MnP source! Here's what Harlem has to say about his/her's pick: "Hey there video gamer. Next source I'm picking Feldschlacht II from Saga Frontier 2! I recently been trying to find more old school RPGs to do midi rips or "remasters" as the YouTube algorithm says I should call them . A lot of games have plenty of folks who've done stuff and I couldn't really justify my little small corner of the internet getting down on a lot of tracks. However I found these battle themes from Saga Frontier 2 and they are pretty sick and I haven't heard roo many interpretations. Even the simple mock up/midi rip/whatever you wish to call it lol. Anyway, let's try some battle music!”- HarlemHeat360 GAME: SaGa Frontier 2 (PS1) SOURCE: Feldschlacht II VIDEO: Deadline: 22nd July @ 1PM Closing Date: 26th August @ 1PM Vote Ends: 4th September @ 1PM MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism submit: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP141 MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Rules for Picking a Source: All video game sources are limited to the 6th generation of video game consoles and earlier. This was due to community consensus, where people preferred to remix more retro games, than newer games. 6th generation includes: GameCube, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast. I'm now restricting big name franchises (Such as Zelda and Mega-Man) to one source per year. This is to encourage more obscure games, that not many people will know about to be picked. Make sure you provide me both a video and a MIDI of the source in question. In the event that someone wins both a normal round and a special round within the span of the each other (E.G Person A wins both Round 137 and Round 138, with Round 138 being a special round.), then the win will automatically go to the runner up and or the 2nd entry (If there is less than 3 submissions). If there is only one entry, which happens to be the winner of the last round, then i will pick a source, just so we can move onto the next round. This process was designed, so everyone gets a fair chance in submitting a source/winning. Ask questions if you are unsure i am always here to help. Note: This is subject to change. Also keep an eye out, if any special rounds come into fruition. Guidelines: Modifying the Source is fine, so long as it doesn't sound completely separate from its original intent. If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. Tempo changes are fine, as long as it's not a big change. I'm talking like, going from 80bpm to 140bpm. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max), and submitted as a MP3 file. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Try to avoid making quality-based comments on submissions until after the Round is concluded. It is to avoid a Bias in Votes. MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make people's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)
  9. Ok i've given this long enough. Apart from my Bonus Entry, only HarlemHeat360 has submitted, so he/she wins by default. Please send me your source pick for Round 141! Ideally for next week (Roughly the 20th June). Thanks to all who participated!
  10. Congrats dude! Sorry i wasn't here for the voting, i was busy. But i might provide a few thoughts here later. Thanks for a fun round everyone!
  11. Any entry is a good entry. It's better to at least try, than to essentially not enter at all. Good luck!
  12. Still no entries, so i've added another 2 days extension. Again it appears closed, but the box is still open so you can get your entry in. Also i've submitted my bonus entry. If nobody has entered by the new deadline, HarlemHeat360 automatically gets the win.
  13. Only HarlemHeat has entered, so 2 extra day's extension. It says it's closed, but the box is open so you can get your entry in!
  14. I'm glad actually, participation is getting awfully low at the moment lol.
  15. Guys the MIDI has finally been created! To access it, just go to the resources section in the compo round of ThaSauce. Thanks for your patience!
  16. Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Update: The MIDI has been created. Thanks for your patience! Congratulations to TheVideoGamer (Me) for winning MnP Round 139! I mean it was literally one vote lol. So this means i get to choose this months source. Here's what I had to say about my pick: "I went with this one, simply because i felt like doing an electronic piece this round. I also really liked the structure of this, it feels like a full on song, lasting 6 minutes with a lot of really funky percussion loops in this, almost semi-industrial but with a hard hitting techno beat, and a lot of trancey chords. I was initially thinking, maybe i should do a Genesis game, but then i was like "No i always do that, let's try something else". And low and behold this came about. I remembered Vatlva a game, and i tried to dabble in that, but then i saw Motohiro Kawashima in the credits and i thought, you know what? What else has he done? And that led me to this game, and to this banger of a track. It's soo god damn funky! The game is Group S Challenge (Or Circus Drive in Japan), and is a run of the mill Racing Game, that didn't get a lot of great reviews, but none were outright saying the game is bad. It's mediocre at best. It's developed by Capcom, a company everyone should know, because everyone's favourite games came from this company. I literally can't say anything else, or i would just be waffling on about a really bare basic Racing Game. There's nothing that stands out, that you haven't seen from Ridge Racer or Need for Speed or even Wipeout. I mean the tracks here are practically almost structured as an album, because of how the game is structured. This is not because i hate the game, it's literally because there's nothing else to say, it's just a Racing Game. So why this one? Well besides it being one funky monster, it has a lot of cool textures and sounds, has enough for someone to really expand upon it, like a blank canvas for you to paint your colours, and it also keeps you on your toes, to where you don't know where it goes next. This is just one hell of a catch electronic piece, that i hope you do justice for. Thanks!" - TheVideoGamer (Me) GAME: Group S Challenge (XBOX) SOURCE: Cut the Corner VIDEO: Note: It's listed as Game Trax 03 in the video, but Motohiro Kawashima himself has provided names for the tracks on his official Soundcloud profile, which is what i went by. Deadline: 1st June @ 1PM Closing Date: 3rd June @ 1PM Vote Ends: 10th June @ 1PM MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism submit: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP140 MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. 17. Ok Karaerler is the only voter, who voted for me, so i feel this round has had it's cause. That mean TheVideoGamer (Me) is the winner of MnP Round 139. Thanks all for participating! Apologies for being late, i have a lot on at this time.
  18. That's ok i can make the MIDI's for them. I'm ok if you choose to go with the Gaiares games. That's fine.
  19. I'd say anything from the Pulseman ost. Here are a few favourites that i like: Showdown 2: Port 1: Metamorphoser: Boot Sequence: Integrated City: I apologise for all the videos, but i'm having trouble choosing one right now.
  20. I forgot to give feedback to this, i'd better do it now. Here's some thoughts about each track, i'll try and keep it on the brief side: HarlemHeat360 - Really digging the string work in this, makes it quite bouncy and cute. Great use of the electric piano, really makes it very funky. The drums are a bit on the quiet side, almost in the background. The timpani hits aren't utilized in here, but that's fine. I dig how you develop it though, the drums really up it's game in the second instance of the main melody, so my comments become a little redundant. The guitar is crazy in this, the harmonics and glide notes are insane, did you play this? The mixing could be finessed here, some moments were quite loud or quiet, but that's to taste. All in all, this was hugely chaotic and fun, definately made me smile, congrats on your win! Well done! Ding888Ding - Damn this is full on Happy Hardcore. The kick is quite powerful, almost drowns out the rest of the instruments lol. The melody is cute as always, but then again this is the original piece talking. I dig the fills in this, and the structure, it enhances from a simple chord progression into a full DDR madness, it's really great. The melody does take a while to get in, but when it does, it's super satisfying. I dig how it fits in the fast Happy Hardcore vibes. It's a shame you don't utilise the rest of the piece, it can make it a little repetitive as a result, and a little under developed. The problem for me, is when a new section comes in, you take a while to develop it before it blooms, so it sounds like your stretching it a bit to maximise 3 minutes of music. Still though the whole thing was banging. Yeah the kick is a little powerful, perhaps on the loud side, but it still didn't diminish the whole fast and goofy fun this piece is providing, great sounds and melodies, well done! Hleet - Honestly listening to this, the volume is perfect, i don't see the need to make it any louder, especially as sometimes that can induce a bit of unwarranted clipping that you might not need. Whilst your rhythm is lovely here, it prefer the original rhythm in my opinion, as it had different fills and a half time and double time part that really amplifies a bit of the sort of eccentric nature of this piece. The rhythm in this is very repetitive, looping a single1-2 bar of something. The melodies are super pretty here though, great choice of synth and drum sounds. To make this stand out, i would add an ending, instead of it just stopping, and maybe keep the rhythm of the original, to avoid it sounding a bit...wonky. Still though i loved this, and it had a lot of lovely moments, you did great! Well done! I'll try and remember to keep on top of voting you guys! It's becoming hard, because there's only really been 2 entries total in most PRC, and i usually account for one of them, so voting has really become redundant, but if there is a few, i'll try and get a few words in. Well done all! See you next round!
  21. Welcome to the Voting Stage! There are 2 entries this round. There is 1 Bonus entry(s) this round There IS a voter bonus this round! TheVideoGamer has a vote worth 2x. When Voting, if possible, avoid granting 1:1 covers top spot. MnP requires a bit of remixage after all. Don't vote for Bonus entries please. Do let me know if you have problems voting, and we can sort something out. Try and not make any comments about each entrant until after voting has concluded. Thanks! Participants may not vote for themselves. The winner of this round will submit a source for MnP Round 140. Vote ends 11th April 1PM. Vote here: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP139
