  1. No worries! I'm here for any questions, if needed!
  2. You can remix a pre-existing tune, come up with an original, or even make some kind of Halloween themed ost, it's all up to you. There's so many video game tracks out there based on spooky themes, you are really spoilt for choice.
  3. As you may know, October time means it's Halloween! So it's time to do another one of our Halloween special rounds! This time it's gonna be different from last time, and it's gonna be one hell of a show. Let's see what we have in store! Ok so in this round you will be tasked in making something Spooky! This can be in the form of anything, provided it fits the theme of Halloween. This might be: Remixing a Video Game source based on the themes and ideas of Halloween. Remixing a song or track from an artist that is based on the themes and ideas of Halloween Imagine you are creating an original composition based on a commission for a Halloween type game/film or T.V Show. Transforming a piece of music, into something fitting for the Halloween season. Your own Spooky Video Game OST for Halloween. An original piece of music that is based on the themes and ideas of Halloween. Any track from any genre, in any length is accepted. I just need to recognise it as a Halloween themed composition/remix/OST etc.... With that being said, i'm afraid there will be submissions i won't be accepting: A piece of music based of a word that you might associate with Halloween, but is not scary in itself. For example: Candy is something you eat on Halloween. However you can also eat it at Christmas time, Easter and any other time of the day. That's not really considered scary. A piece of music that mentions Halloween in passing. It must be the main focus of your submission. Any music irrelevant to the round. Music that sounds scary, but bares no relation to the themes and ideas of Halloween. Basically i must be able to identify that this is a Halloween themed composition/remix. These rules are there to ensure that this is a Halloween based round, and not a random Free Round, if you catch my drift. Halloween encompasses many ideas and traditions, so you will definately not be short on musical ideas. Conditions in regards to submitting: You can upload up to 3 entries maximum. If you are creating an OST, only 1 entry is allowed. None of the rules in regards to source/remix selection apply here, since it's a Halloween round, however the standard uploading rules for ThaSauce (20mb size, MP3 etc...) remain as normal. This round and any other free rounds bares no relation to any of the sister compo's and/or it's affiliates (Such as PRC) And that's it really. I'm here for any questions you may have, and i'm willing to guide you into opening up your own creative ideas for this round. There will never be a limitation of the music you can make that is based off the wonderful traditions of Halloween. Good luck guys, and remember to have fun! Note: If you are remixing a VGM source or an piece of music from an artist, it would be very helpful to write down the Game and the Source you are remixing. Likewise the same for the Artist and the Song. The winner of this round, join's the winner of the last round for a Double Dose off in Round 137. Deadline: 31st October @ 1PM Closing Date: 2nd November @ 1PM Vote Ends: 9th November @ 1PM MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism submit: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP136 MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. It is up to the remixer to create their own personalization, or to simply give it a sound upgrade. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Guidelines: Modifying the Source is fine, so long as it doesn't sound completely separate from its original intent. If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. Tempo changes are fine, as long as it's not a big change. I'm talking like, going from 80bpm to 140bpm. Submissions must be at a maximum of 20mb (keeping in step with ThaSauce's file size max), and submitted as a MP3 file. Only 1 entry per participant. Previous winner cannot participate but can submit a BONUS entry. Try to avoid making quality-based comments on submissions until after the Round is concluded. It is to avoid a Bias in Votes. For this round you can remix more than one source. Do make sure you let me know which source(s) you've picked in the submission notes. MISC/TIPS - When picking a source tune, make sure it has a MIDI to make people's lives easier. - In-game sound FX are permitted, so long as they don't comprise the whole track (i.e. replacing entire MIDI tracks with just sfx)
  4. Results In 1st place with 17 points: HarlemHeat360 In 2nd place with 15 points: APZX In 3rd place with 9 points: Studionimbus.org And the last place hero with 7 points: Hleet TheVideoGamer created a Bonus Entry. HarlemHeat360 please PM me with your source pick for Round 137. Normally i'd say next week, but i'm hosting another Halloween MnP Special, so i want this for around 31st October. You will join the winner of 136 in a Double Dose round. Thanks! Congrats to everyone who participated, you peeps did great! Comments: Next round will be a special Halloween round. Keep an eye out for that!
  5. I have a bonus, that unfortunately is just about finished, but the deadline is lapsed, so i can't upload it
  6. Welcome to the Voting Stage! There are 4 entries this round. There is 1 Bonus entry(s) this round There IS a voter bonus this round! TheVideoGamer (Me) has a vote worth 2x. When Voting, if possible, avoid granting 1:1 covers top spot. MnP requires a bit of remixage after all. Don't vote for Bonus entries please. Do let me know if you have problems voting, and we can sort something out. Try and not make any comments about each entrant until after voting has concluded. Thanks! Participants may not vote for themselves. The winner of this round will submit a source alongside another person's source for MnP Round 137. The next round will be something Spooky for Halloween. Keep an eye out for that! Vote ends 29th September 1PM. Vote here: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP135
  7. I've just realized i forgot to vote or give feedback lol. So i'll do it now. Aurelien Castel: Really liking the array of cool square like sounds. Really gives it that oldschool c64 kind of sound. Main melody is super dynamic, love it a lot. It's got a lot of cool acoustic moments in the piece, despite it's electronic leanings. Each sound changes throughout, it's pretty cool. It almost has a Jazz Fusion meets Chiptune approach. Some of the sounds can unfortunately get a bit loud, or at least close to the threshold. I'm not sure if the chord changes are deliberate, because they sound very spicy (Maybe dissonant depending on who's listening). I don't mind them, but i have to be in the right frame on mind, otherwise i might perceive it as dissonant. Despite that though, the whole arrangement is really great, i love the cool new sounds added in this. It's just a really lovely arrangement, well done! Congrats on winning by the way! Souperion: Welcome back to remixing dude! This is some really cool orchestral styled approach here. Loving the piano, it's like a mix of Jazz and Orchestral. The drum parts were delightfully 80's sounding, and the synth parts were really juicy and trance like. On it's own, it can get a little...weird and uneven mix wise, but when mixed with the strings and piano, it adds a wonderful electronic edge to the sound, really making it like some Disco thing. The piano is a wonderful touch, makes it more of anime type piece lol. The mix does need some touches for me, the piano is a bit too much in front, and i would add a bit more electronic sounds to bridge the gap more. I feel like there isn't enough to distinguish the 2 (Just a taste thing in my opinion). Ending gets a little distorted for me. The fade out is very sudden, no anticipation for the ending. Despite all that, you did a wonderful 80's styled take on it, with some amazing melodies and sounds. Well done! Thanks for a fun round. Sorry i couldn't give a proper remix this time, but i will do for the future rounds. Again congratulations to Aurelien Castel, really great job! See you next round!
  8. Thanks all, the MIDI for the round is uploaded. Next round is out!
  9. I've returned from my holidays, so i've put the MIDI up for you guys! You can find it on the ThaSauce page. Have fun!
  10. Compo: MnP (Meat 'n Potatoes) Congratulations to TheVideoGamer (Me) for winning the last round! As a result, I get to choose this month's MnP source! Here's what I have to say about my pick: ""I did promise a whole host of Ape Escape sources on the off chance I would win. I decided to move on to the third game in the series just so it doesn’t get neglected as this too has a incredible score (No hate to the 2nd game, but personally it sounds a little too MIDI ‘sound-fonty’ for my liking) This one also goes by the name of Monkeypiece Theater, Monkey Forest’ However ‘Hide n Seek Forest is more easier to remember. This is the 2nd main stage in the game, ignoring the mini games, and is honestly just a very vibrant piece. I don’t know how to exactly describe it other than, Folky DnB? It’s got a good ol’ Yodel, a harmonica and an accordion, as well as a dynamic French Horn like melody, all seasoned with some extremely thick synth basslines, and a whole host of breakbeats. It’s sounds like a whole host of fun, no different to any of the Sonic Team’s ost (Even though it’s completely different). The first game sounds very much like 90s Jungle, like it screams PS1 jungle. In this case not only does it sound more modern, but the instrumentation is more traditional as well. Like representative of the time period. I’ve talked way too much, hope you do this awesome piece justice!”- Me GAME: Ape Escape 3 (PS2) SOURCE: Hide n Seek Forest VIDEO: Deadline: 20th September @ 1PM Closing Date: 22nd September @ 1PM Vote Ends: 29th September 1PM MnP ARCHIVE - made by Trism submit: https://compo.thasauce.net/rounds/view/MnP135 MISSION STATEMENT The goal of Compo:MnP is to promote that "meat and potatoes" conservative approach to remixing: this includes the mood and composition of source tunes. Moreover, the compo is a great opportunity to hone your remixing skills and give video game music the respect that is due. SOME reinterpretation is recommended, but not required. MnP Instructions/Guidelines Rules for Picking a Source: All video game sources are limited to the 6th generation of video game consoles and earlier. This was due to community consensus, where people preferred to remix more retro games, than newer games. 6th generation includes: GameCube, Xbox, PS2 and Dreamcast. I'm now restricting big name franchises (Such as Zelda and Mega-Man) to one source per year. This is to encourage more obscure games, that not many people will know about to be picked. Make sure you provide me both a video and a MIDI of the source in question. Note: This is subject to change. Also keep an eye out, if any special rounds come into fruition. Guidelines: Modifying the Source is fine, so long as it doesn't sound completely separate from its original intent. If you're gonna do a genre change, at least make sure the original aspect of the source is not lost. Tempo changes are fine, as long as it's not a big change. 11. Update: Ok so I’m gonna make the round, but it will have no MIDI. When I return from my holiday (Which is about 8 days) I will add the MIDI. To compensate for this, I will give you a 5 week deadline instead of 4. Thanks for your patience!
  12. Results In a landslide 1st place with 15 points: TheVideoGamer And the last place hero with 9 points: Hleet The only remaining entry is Souperion’s Bonus, so the remaining positions are inapplicable. I will send a source pick for Round 135 I hopefully for next week (Roughly the 21st of August). Congrats to everyone who participated, you peeps did great! Comments: Wow looks like I won by a landslide. I’m sorry Hleet. Now this is going to be a challenge, as I’m vacating for 2 weeks, and MIDI rendering is not really possible on IPhone. So the last resort would be to use a ready made MIDI from VGmusic. Oh well, I’ll assess it in the upcoming days. I actually had a MIDI ready, but I forgot to transfer it from computer to mobile lol. So this is going to be quite the challenge. Anyways enough ramble, congrats everyone!

  14. Thanks Hleet for filling the void. I can now proceed to the voting! Because of the 2 day round extension due to the lack of entries, i've extended voting by 2 days.
