  1. Okay, so having talked to KFC (and most of you read the stuff he just posted), I'm going to go pretty nuts to get the rest of this work done. So if I seem like an asshole to some of you, don't take it personally
  2. Amplitube is complete and utter shit! I should hunt you down and fuck your ear just for suggesting it! Guitar Rig 2 is all you need if you're going for direct-in guitar. A little mixer or a pre-amp is a necessity though, since you need to be able to accurately translate the signal to your PC. The most important thing you have to consider when going the digital route, is that you'll need a sound interface capable of giving you very fast ASIO drivers. Overall, getting very good guitar results is a little more expensive and difficult than the standard amateur application. Don't expect to sound good right away unless you're prepared to spend a fair chunk of money and a fair chunk of time learning.
  3. It's not really meant to be funny. Just the best visual representation of the project title. I mean, SOMEONE's gotta pimp this bitch!
  4. So will this project be made official on OCR? If so, when will we be moved to the projects forum?
  5. Has anyone gotten any word on KFCs condition? I heard he's sick or someshit, but other than that I dont know shit.
  6. Well, someone should restate that there is good clipping and bad clipping. And I guess it'll be me. So yeah, there's good clipping, and the inverse of which would be bad clipping.
  7. Todays mastering standard is -0.1dB to -0.2dB, not 0dB. These days, if anything hits 0dB it's pretty much considered clipping. But that doesn't stop idiotic rock and metal producers from overdoing it.
  8. Yeah, 99% chance it wont happen, at least for quite a while after this one comes out. People need breaks from constantly writing songs for different projects. .... indeed
  9. I gotta throw in my support for EWQLSO Silver. At $100 it's a GREAT value. Everything is pre-panned and processed for you so that getting a good sound out of the library is not impossible. I really like the strings from that library, also. Very usable in many different genres of music, and they sound great played through a keyboard with the pre-programmed articulations and all that jazz. I think that's a major factor you should consider when looking for a string library. That is, if you're reserving it for purely orchestral work or if you're planning to branch out with it. For a song that's mainly techno or rock with some strings in there, any samples would work, really. Realism isn't very important when it comes to a non-orchestral piece, just whatever sounds good in the song. But yeah, EWQLSO Silver is a great library that's definetly worth $125-150. And the piano and organ that it come with are great too!
  10. I completely agree with every damn thing in that post. We must all quote it for emphasis.
  11. Saturating a mix with compression is the #1 way to muddle the sound altogether. The correct way to fill out a song is to carefully balance the frequencies used by each instrument. A true well balanced song has its most important elements added during the MIXING stage, not the mastering. Like I keep saying, mastering is merely doing some final sculpting of the song with slight EQ and slight compression. Making a song as loud as possible starts at the mixing stage. If you try to overcompress a badly mixed song, you'll end up with something that really hurts to listen to. By learning how to properly isolate instruments using EQ during the mixing stage, you can compress the song less severely during the mastering stage while still getting a very loud and saturated mix, and thus eliminate many of the problems usually associated with badly compressed songs.
  12. A better way than following a step by step guide to making a shitty cookie-cutter master is to actually learn what every method used to master a song does. That way you'll know what you want your song to sound like, and know exactly the tools to make it sound that way. But I'm just an asshole.
  13. The FF7 fanboys have dissapointed me, this topic is not getting bumped up by the usual "OMGOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG"
  14. Everyone is obsessed with channel limitations, effects limitations and all this other bullshit that just makes music production needlessly complicated and exhausting. If you learn the basics of digital music creation, and learn them well, you wont ever need more than 2-4 effects per channel.
  15. There's only so much you can do with a room filled with just synths. The room that (terribly ugly) woman has would actually impress me if she had a few guitars in there. All you really need are about 7 keyboard instruments: 1. Analog synth 2. FM synth 3. Hammond B3 (counts as two) 4. Digital Piano 5. Sample based synth 6. Controller for any external modules you may have. A nice rig where everything is set up around you is the best way to make love to these. Add a bass guitar and a drumset, BOOM intsa-band. That much hardware is simply there for showing off. Still, it looks fucking awesome though! AHHHHH! It's coming right for us!
  16. But I though you werent going to use the song with my piano sample... Change of plans? KFC didn't know that I didn't want to use your version. Sorry
  17. Or to collaborate with Hetcenus on what could possibly be the greatest piano renditio of Lava Reef known to man. Just an idea...
  18. Does the sound continue after the cable is fully plugged in? If not, then it's just a normal sound because the ground portion of the plug is the last bit to go in. If yes, then there is a possibility that either: 1) Your guitars output jack is slightly messed up 2) Your cable needs replacing 3) Your amps input jack is... jacked 4) Your guitars pickups are just noisy To fix #1 is pretty simple. You just CAREFULLY take the jack apart and check for loose wires. If there are some, just solder them back into place. To fix #2... buy a new cable. To fix #3 do the same thing you did to the guitar on the amp, just be more careful and make sure you ground yourself before working on the amp. To fix #4, buy better pickups. If you have single coil pickups, the noise will never go away.
  19. hey Suzu, PM me your address. I may have a couple of those little things sitting around that I can send to you.
  20. Fingering has nothing to do with the progression of a chord. While the left hand fretting motions are not sequential (meaning your fingers dont fret the notes in the natural order of your fingers) you always strum straight down or straight up. So either line up the notes from the lowest to the highest or visa versa.
