Sonic 3 & Knuckles: Project Chaos - History
SnappleMan replied to k u n g f u c h i c k e n's topic in Projects
I've been talking with him. He's got free time and is working on the song as we speak. I'm gonna do the drums for it, it should be done VERY quickly. -

Yeah, since KFC has died and gone to hell, I'm giving Act 2 Boss to BrainCells. That'll work out very well. -
I am again with guitar, that means you can expect a completed song soon, sir.

That's certainly a stupid thing to wonder, considering who's on the project. Considering who's running the project.... -

I'm just waiting for KFC to get off his black ass and produce his songs already. I might have to cut him altogether -

Dude, I know you're the man in charge of this collab and I do not mean to get into subject I'm not supposed to, but... don't you think it's too late to bring in more people? I mean, you guys have been working on this for over a year and we are all so anxious to see what will come out. I don't know. What frightens me is that bringing more people in will delay the conclusion of the project in a good deal of months... Considering BrainCells is a professional musician with an immense amount of talent and the ability to deliver an outsanding song in a very short amount of time, I don't think bringing him in is a real issue. There's no reason for you to concern yourself with these matters, nor is your opinion welcome. Now if you'll excuse me, I must return to searching for pictures of a young Wilford Brimley. -

Well, first off to Marcos. Dude, if you want to take one more short track, let me know in a PM or AIM or whatever. Nothing fancy required, just good ol' fashioned music. House, all I need is a paragraph about yourself and your music career, a paragraph about the song and what you were going for, and a photo. You can give this to me personally or to KFC any way you wish. Right now I'm still redoing the songs since my PC last died, I'll have everything done very soon (again) and then I'll collect everything from everyone, give it to Hadyn and have him work his magic on the site. It's been very hard lately to get anything done because not only am I a full time graduate student, but I also work full time. Now that the semester is out and I got a couple months (yes, months) vacation, I can work at a good pace. -

Creating Humbucker pickups from Single Coils
SnappleMan replied to Synth's topic in Music Composition & Production
not only are hot rails quieter than most traditional humbuckers but they're also EXTREMELY high output. This makes them wonderful pickups. I had one in the neck position of my EVH custom strat, and I can't tell you what a badass tone I got. Unlike anything else I've ever used. Great for fingertapping too! -

Hey KFC, I was trying to finish re-recording the takes for Final Boss but most of my Cubase projects got corrupted somehow. I'll have to use the pre-final I sent you a while back (the one I asked you to send back to me). The takes are all great in that one and I'm extremely happy with how it turned out anyway, so I don't see a problem. Anyway, as soon as I finish with tomorrows exams I'll finish work on the unclaimed/unfinished tracks. No sense in waiting around for anything. I might just ask random people to contribute something to the songs, maybe a chaotic collaboration session by a few of the project artists, put some fun back into things. -
Need new multi-track recording software
SnappleMan replied to Raydius's topic in Music Composition & Production
Sonar is not worth it, in my opinion. I used to blindly defend it because it was all I knew, but it really is heading nowhere fast. I HIGHLY suggest you move to Cubase, it's easy to learn and more functional (and CPU friendly) than any of Cakewalks products. -
Depending on how you're planning to tackle the mixing process itself, you may need to use extensive compression or none at all. Having control over the different microphones used to record a drumkit (like in a real studio situation or like in Drumkit From Hell Superior) REALLY cuts down on the need for a compressor. As stated above, it all depends on the style. The most important thing to do is make sure you don't overdo it. Only use the properties of a drum that you want in your song. Learning how to use a compressor and EQ to get that sound is something that will take you a long time to master (but the learning process is extremely fun and rewarding). Overall keep in mind that the most important things are to not overdo anything, and learn to mix a song well before adding any effects, meaning adjusting the volume levels and panning of your tracks so it sounds decent even before you do anything major to it, you'll find that if you do that you won't have to do much compression or EQ after all.

I prefer to use "synth action" keys for everything except piano. I don't know about the style of music you play, but my tastes gravitate towards alot of synths. Having used many of these popular hardware synths that I now own as VST instruments, I can say that the experiance is very close to the original feel, and I can't really play synths with full hammer action keys. So yeah, if you ask me it's easier to play piano on semi-weighted keyboard than it is to play a synth on a fully-weighted one. Many will disagree with me, but it all comes down to what you personally feel after playing both for a while. So go to Guitar Center early in the day and start wearing out the finish on them keys

Paying for all your software doesn't magically make you better at using it. -

Not shredding. Anyone can TRY to shred, what makes it shredding is the amount of talent to not have to seem like you're trying. Plus, the tone is completely horrible. A couple of sloppy sweeps and a few awkward runs do not shredding make.
