While I see your argument, I think I can understand what Brandon was saying. Since FF7 was kept so secretive, when the information was announced there were several other remixers that DIDN'T have involvement prior to the announcement that really, REALLY wanted to be involved in a project as big as this. I think between this and zircon's selective decisions, there have been people that have seen the exact opposite effect as what you're implying. Otherwise, the rest of the guys have it covered. If you want to do something with FF6, then give it a shot, though it all comes down to motives and guts to push it all the way through to a finished release. That's how many of these projects managed to pull through in the end

OC ReMix Panel at UK London Gaming Con (3rd Dec 2011) - VIDEOS INSIDE
Rexy replied to Fishy's topic in Announcements
Yes, the alerting so close to time made it difficult for even me to book the time. But i shall be sure to rally back with how it went plus video recordings of the live performances at least. Here's to a great first international panel -
Brandon is going for the BGR this week. And he will melt your face off :3

Not sure if C7 would be happy seeing that, but I still thought it both combined the source really well and matched the production really well. I haven't voted yet, but I'm sure it will make my top 3. As for Topsy Turvy, I caught Wily straight away, which is odd for me because i'm unfamiliar with much of mm5's score. I can feel here because it seems that we try so hard to make both themes present but we still get shot down as if we didn't make one source clear enough. But it may be something to learn from even if we may not necessarily agree with what they're saying.

Having done a secret santa in the workplace last year, something like this probably won't be too problematic for the interwebs as well. But yeah, I'll have a go. I sent my address to your Facebook inbox. And whoever's matched up with me would have to take into account the last post dates for the UK if not air mail in general o_O

Yep, welcome to the team TGH! Still feel sorry for Emunator to suddenly leave, but it'll be a plus to see what you can be able to come up with

mod-review Mega Man 2 / 6 - Plant Man in Wily Stage 1 [WIP 7 online]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Double post, but I soon reacted with another version. The secondary bass fade was fixed as well as taking into account some feedback from Shinny in the IRC. Things done here in comparision to WIP 2: * Lowered the flute by 2db. Shinny approved of the frequency, so that's a start. * Tightened up the timing for the flute part in its first instance. * Fixed some string panning (lol picky is me). * Added a minor synth arpeggio run during the keychange section but just prior to the synth solo at the end. I'm open to all feedback -
I've done my part and re-tweeted. This is a bad day for OCR I am sure

mod-review Mega Man 2 / 6 - Plant Man in Wily Stage 1 [WIP 7 online]
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
Quite a lot of it's helping I managed to host a new version taking in the quick feedback over the past 4-6 hours, and it's hosted here (and will be in the first post soon as well) - http://instaidgrace.com/freqrexy/junk/rootofallthings-ocrver-wip2c.mp3 Firstly, in regards to DjMystix's concern about the chords (let me say first of all that one of my non-OCR friends LOVES your work particularly with your Sunset Riders and Bayonetta ones ), I didn't cut any chords out from the source; in that part, the Wily melody was on top of the (rather simple, I know) chord progression for the first 8 bars of Plant Man's. Quite a lot of these sections mangle writings from both sources together, so I hope that can be understood. Anyway, things that have been fixed so far: * Flute fine-tweaked by cutting 4.5 at 4.5 hz (that precise numbering wasn't intentional xD) and re-levelled into the mix (almost considered the compression but I'll try the EQ first and see how it goes, thanks though Lidawg) * Flute harmony had samples changed completely. Originally the harmony flutes (a Zebra flute-formed patch) and the solo flute (from EWQL) were two completely separate patches, and with the live performance as well I thought there's no way I could get a natural sounding sound from Zebra; change required. * Doubled up the glockenspiel part at 1:36 (which was already doubled up anyway with the guitarron tremolo) with a gentle pad pluck. * Restored the second bass layer, but changed it from a square to a more subtle low banjoid synth. (yes, I forgot to put the fade-out back in; I'll do that in the next version.) * Boosted the main bass layer's low end EQ by 2.5 at 100hz and applied a low shelf filter to it. * Boosted the string parts by 6db in the middle of the synth solo. They had a countermelody presence before, just not quite as distinct as this. (volume is restored prior to coming again before the key change.) * Lead synth's legato portamento is cut overall by 75%. I CAN automate it if I can, but I'm not sure which parts require it the most to be honest. And that's what I have so far. I'm open to any more crits with this release -
Last update - 4 December(see details in latest post) Yes, this was entered for the second round of the Wily Castle Remix Gauntlet. While I appreciate some of the crits there, it somehow ended up being quite overwhelming when I thought I was already proud of what I had. But you see, the point is, I want to send it onto OCR. The arrangement, I've already covered by intertwining both themes quite well; what I DO want to do on it though is make sure it sounds its outright best before I even consider sending it off to the judges. Here's a slightly revised take from the original WCRG version; flute is a little wetter, first part of the flute was transposed up an octave, synth layer of the bass is taken out (sorry OA ), timings fixed in places (most notably on the drums) and some level revisions were looked into. I'm open to all suggestions possible, I want to see if I can FINALLY get a track on the site that's neither a piano solo nor a collaboration with someone else (and if there's any way I can actually rake in points for next time I'm open for that too )

Hoping for extra pineapples on mine Brandon might be taking the slot this week, but it depends on how he feels towards this source. Once he surfaces, we should come to a decision.

Donkey Kong GB was awesome; tried playing the ending theme on the piano when I was a teenager; good times Ultimately it comes to the stance between franchises. Though, given the different main game mechanics and even main characters (DKL - DK & Diddy / DK GB - Mario) it might warrant a little difference yet.

That's the point, Plant Man is a delicate Robot Master all the way down to being a shield user. So it's best that this organic/industrial clash is handled that way. But you know, with the way this is going in regards to the mix-and-match source usage nitpicking, next time I'll see if I can make you ALL happy with Plant's usage and make 80% of it a straight cover with just 20% vague references to the Wily theme. How does that sound
-
Well done, Emu! Hopefully this will mean a boost in your remix collection too, and the chance to continue bettering the community. With love from a fellow piano enthusiast

I thought Sixto uses Drumkit From Hell? But yeah, should this version end up going through to refining for OCR (which seems very likely) I'll be sure to consider working on the balancing there for that and the flute. I think I learnt a few new techinques from last night's Punchfest too, so I'll be prepared to see what I can do. Thank you again Wes

I'm not saying they don't, Nabeel. But you've seen so many people around here in this thread that have felt that they found it so hard to just pick 3 out of so many, right? Think about how disappointed you would be if you had a mass amount of people saying they didn't quite put you in their votes, coming with the price of a painfully weak rank right at the end. As one that looks out for artists' welfare, this to me is just not on.
-
I'm gonna give it my best shot, would be something more pleasant to deal with in the coming 2 months or so
-
Well let's say I'm among one of the few that's unhappy with the changed system. People are only going to vote for 3 entries, aren't they? Then that means out of a choice of 12 they're obviously going to leave behind many of the great tracks that will be heavily cut aside by the system. See, this was one of many reasons why there'd be sometimes several year-long gaps in my appearances in the Dwelling of Duels... :\
-
There's the writeups for a reason, even though they may state things that we may disagree with. So even if the current system stays, if you want feedback for ways to improve then look there; no matter what situation is taken, voting systems are not entirely reliable. Seriously, everyone here needs to sit down with a nice cup of tea and watch (lol shameless plug)
-
Well let's just say I'm still against it. Jason's proposed idea smells like the old DoD system, where people just vote on what they have with the limitations they've got, and the ones that are the worst hit are the ones that they purposely didn't want to care about. And that was a system that I was extremely annoyed with back in the day, so much to the point that some of the best mixes I saw coming out of the DoD were left in the bottom half percentile. (Their new system with the sliders is a lot more fairer though, no disrespect to the DoD as a community.) And yes, I know this system is upsetting a lot of people, but let's just STOP getting upset about it and move on. I swear everyone's going to get headaches in the morning if this keeps getting debated >_>
-
It's not just the top mixes that are being benefitted. You stated before that lower ranks will struggle in a Popular Vote system, which would really crush things apart. To take a more obvious example, let's look at the Hard Men. Benjamin Briggs scored really well last week even if he didn't break the top 3. Emunator's work on the other hand seems to be an underdog from what I'm seeing of the votes so far, so under that sitation, the Hard Men's performance is actually being hindered by the initial reception for Emu's track. Going under Darke's system, it may be true that Ben's work may have a slight handicap due to being just outside the top three, but because Emu took part then the Hard Men won't be considered a handicapped team in regards to point totals. Do you understand where I'm coming from?
-
Honestly, this is why I didn't want to see any change. People can be too subjective to what they find enjoyable, and I honestly think that Darke's system has done something that would make everyone happy with the result no matter where they place. So just stop complaining and make music, and stop using new systems as a chance to put others down >_> And I know there was an edit above, but let's say for example WillRock makes something that didn't grab peoples' attention next round, and that only gets 2 votes. Added on top of the BRB points, that would actually hurt the team as a whole. Under Darke's system, just having him submit would count as a 4th place vote regardless, so that didn't hurt the outcome all that much in comparison.

See, the way you guys are COMPLETELY MISJUDGING my own track is the very reason why I REFUSE to see a change in the voting system. I spent over £500 on new samples after the whole long-SDB-project-evaluation thing, as a way to SIGNIFICANTLY up my game. But now you guys have a wrongful accusation to go for it. I asked so many people for balance and production criticisms (including two REALLY TOUGH production critics) throughout the whole process and they said they were fine with it, so what the hell is going wrong? Answering Ectogemia's question, the percussion used was Addictive's drumsets and the Latin American percussion patches from Garritan World Instruments. As for the whole Plant-Wily argument, there was MORE PLANT THAN WILY. It may not be obvious, but let me break it down for you: First 16 bars - Piano part plays melody D for Plant all the way through, and in the last 8 bars of this the Wily melody Next 16 - Chord structure for the riff of Wily 1 over the melody for Plant Next 16 - Reverse roles Next 16 - Piano part plays the D section of the Plant melody over the E section of Wily [section *] Next 16 - Guitarron and glockenspiel reference to Plant melody B, last 8 bars refer to Wily on the synth Next 16 - Wily riff with added melody, last 2 bars have a reference to Plant melody A Next 16 - Chord structure for Plant A and hint of Plant C was noted in the first four bars of the synth line. No Wily here. Next 16 - See Section * Next 16 - Synth solo, first 8 bars uses chord structure for the B/D section of Wily Next 8 - Plant C noted on glockenspiel Next 16 - Section *, with key change Next 16 - Accompaniment of Section * remains, and a hint of Plant A is noted in the last synth solo Ending - Answer and call between Wily and Plant So all in all, you can see that Plant has MORE PRESENCE THAN WILY. I am actually very annoyed by the wrongful accusations, and I really hope my analysis of the whole thing can clear things up to you. Please, spare me a vote. I'm having the worst week ever due to wrongful accusations at work, and I odn't want this on top of it

I don't know, I actually seem to like it this way. If there were point distributions going further down the list too, then that would mean way too much pressure being built just to try and fight for one of them. With this system, we can just relax and have fun with what we do, knowing that if you take part you're practically guaranteed 4th place no matter what you do. And that to me is a much more uplifting take on the whole thing than seeing laments over low finishing positions
-
Well, seeing that the big point send-offs are being sent to the top 3 in each round, I can be safe in the knowledge that if I face a crushing defeat in this round (which is more than likely ) then it won't damage the team too much. But nevertheless, was a good start for Round 1
