As much as I'd love Retro Studios to handle Star Fox, I have this feeling that Retro Studios are likely to be more comfortable (to them) action/adventure oriented games, and with that said I can see them taking Kid Icarus to the Wii/WiiU well especially considering Pit's popularity in SSBB. But yeah, after what they did with Metroid and Donkey Kong, RS have shown that they are extremely capable in handling Nintendo's property

Speaking for k-wix, I recalled that he was more in favor of an order as according to flow rather than the in-game progression. There have been some past OCR albums that have managed to go by a traditional track order but have been criticised in regards to the pacing throughout, so this could be seen as a more different case. Well, I downloaded the album via the zip and I opened it just fine in WinRAR. Did you try downloading the songs seperately via the Music page? Because if you can't get the torrent to work (as a student myself I remember being unable to use torrents and the IRC due to the university's firewall, so it seems like a common thing), and you can't get the zip to open either for some strange reason, then I'm pretty sure the individual mp3s - tedious as it might be - can still work out for you.

This sounds neat; funnily enough I was thinking of potential ideas for a Concrete Man arrangement when I saw the BiB tracklist. Nevertheless, since I'm on holiday from the 11th through to the 17th that'll probably mean that if I can get in I'll have to churn a finished arrangement in 2 days; no easy feat, but I'm sure I'll try my best

I knew you were going to do well on the project but wasn't expecting it to be one of the mixposts O_o From what I understood of your profile, you have a tendancy to take ending songs and present them in a strongly upbeat everybody's-buddies-again kind of way, which I've noted particularly from renditions of the ending themes for Kirby Super Star, Pop n' Twinbee and Zelda: ALTTP (as part of "Unsealed"). So you've really managed to take the personification one step further for Mega Man 9's ending, really working on the pacing throughout when measuring it up towards the original. I wish I could nitpick this as much as I can like some of your pre-2009 works, but to me, I feel this is amongst one of your best works yet, and a wonderful way to bring Back In Blue to a close. It's kinda funny because Will discussed this with me over the IRC In this day and age, I've got more of a focus on games that I can somehow relate to either in regards to music or a level of nostalgia in regards to playing them. That means I'd struggle with games that I hadn't played/heard of before discovering OCRemix, though there have been some rare cases that community exposure (for example with the Dwelling of Duels' Castlevania 3 "Clockwork" special back in 2004) has encouraged me to check out the games themselves and see if there's anything I could feel within the source material. Two games that I already know that I can't do anything with these days however are Final Fantasy 7 and Super Mario RPG. I admit that both games have solid scores coming out from them and have reached out to the music passionists amongst them, but for me as games they felt rather subpar to other titles in the series (or in SMRPG's case, in comparison to Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series) and therefore strike a bad nerve in regards to the fanboys they draw. If I don't feel comfortable when certain games pop up in conversation, then it's most likely that I won't remix it.

I showed the trailer to a good friend back at the Scorehero forums, whom as a Mega Man fan is in high anticipation about the album. Amongst the track listing, he absolutely can't wait to hear (other than my track ) Hornet Man and Splash Woman. Given that he's also become a fan of Dj Mystix through OCR exposure, I can't be too surprised about his wicked taste. Roll on project release

Do you have a taker for "Flight from the Holy Land"? If not, I can see if I can give it a go. It would help if I also knew when it's played in the game to get an idea on how to portray it, but if I get the information down, then I should be able to whip up something pretty smoothly. I've been starting to surf lately too. Managed to to get used to the whole thing, and found strong thrills among the faster ones there. Even surfed through random DoD mixes off-camera though and hoped to find some impressive ones, being especially wowed over the weekend by Snappleman's "Cthulhu's Asshole" from last month's Free Month Nonetheless, I guess with September coming I could surf through OCR's library in pursuit of some solid charts. Who knows, this might be a good way to be finally exposed to every single mix that exists o_O

If you want the shoe to drop, it's most likely not going to come from me. Though, I'm not going all-praiseish on this one either. It took me a while to get into Anti-Syne's style, but when I did not long after "Night City Funk" came out I then saw it to be very technically accomplished for a new face, and managed to be very appropriate for both the source material at hand and a weekend soundtrack. Like all electronica arrangements it tends to play safe, but the stylistic choice of writing definitely more than made up for it. This on the other hand kind of plays a little too close to the previous submission's technical formula and is most likely going to draw some stylistic comparisons between them. As a track, it also has that listenable charm to it and can easily fit quite well with other artists of the genre, but it has a tendancy to be dragged down not only by his previous submission's successes and the emulation for it, but also for what can be seen as some slightly weaker writing, particluarly noting a lot of lower-frequency notation that might clutter things and a not-quite-as-stellar movement towards the ending. Don't get me wrong, I actually like the track a fair deal mostly due to the quality production techniques applied. But if there's anything that guys on Youtube and Facebook may show some discontempt with (rather than the more-than-obvious "techno anti-bias"), perhaps what I stated might be a handful of potential reasonings.

Cut me some slack Brandon, I've barely been re-active for a few months so it's taking time to re-adjust If there's anything I did that upsetted anyone in that thread, then I'm sorry for it. But honestly, no one on the project should take the blame for what could be seen as a single person's mistake so I still am saying my irritation over this issue is well justified.

I remember this from the One vs Many DoD back in June; was a little stumped over why it was merely going to be an Alternative entry. With no familiarity over the source material, and remembering the skills you had in previous years, the least I did was managed to check out what I could. I did notice on the first listen that the rhythm guitar playing felt really loose; no idea how it can be seen as an artistic choice as it felt more like a technical concern to me and makes it feel difficult to folow the rhythm. There have been artists that have similarly struggled past the panel for backing instrument timing, so don't feel too discouraged. The writing here though is strong, and in regards to vocal performance it seems as if you have also shown some improvement there within the years you took a break from this community. So I can say that's a great thing to have prospered upon. Also out of personal preference it kind of seems to end a bit quick for me and might've warranted another verse and a longer solo after it a la Deep Purple, but it might have depended on how people might've wanted to expect from the track. Don't take it personally ^^* It's a shame that you don't really want to work on another revision because I liked the ideas the first time around, and I had a lot of confidence that you'd refine things for a resub. But I know that with great improvement to your vocal tone and your ideas still being in place, I can see you being re-posted here soon enough. Keep up the effort

I could've sworn when I first saw Ethan Mars in Heavy Rain, I thought "this character looks like my old Music Technology tutor back at University". Then on closer look between the pair, I could've seen a perfect match if Ethan shaved more often. I apologise for the small picture, but that was the biggest resolution of the tutor photo I could even locate.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with forming opinions. It's just that I'm reaching breaking point with all the amount of unjustified disliking just because of the album name alone, and to see people compare with other albums as well only just makes matters worse. We are fine to take criticism when criticism is due, definitely - just not on what can be strictly seen as artistic direction, which is giving me the impression that everyone involved on this thing didn't do their job. And yes, "I didn't enjoy the album, I enjoyed another album more" is definitely written as "album A is better than project B" in a person's point of view. Comments like that to me feel really unsettling, and can similarly be unsettling for when others compare projects beforehand. Remember a few posts before the history thread was closed when someone brought up "Threshold of a Dream" for that same reason - didn't like the artistic direction but thought this one would be more cohesive? How did you and the rest of the project staff feel to see that comparison being brought up?

Quoted for truth. People wrote the tracks not necessarily to reflect on the title or the pacing, but on how they personally felt on the tracks to be arranged. Personally I would've just taken it at face value until you stated that you felt the NiGHTS album was better. Don't get me wrong, Stevo did a fantastic job in getting everything together, but the last thing anyone would've wanted in a thread like this was "this project sucks, another project was better" - all it would seem to do was just completely derail the direction of the thread as well as add more unnecessary shame upon the mixers. There was a huge discussion about the genre directions further on in the thread, and true to some people it may not be the direction they wanted, but let's face the facts - with a total of eight tracks posted as individual mixes and a ninth one coming on its way, the strength of these mixposts heavily outweigh the unnecessary critics, therefore on a technical point I can say The Sound of Speed has achieved a lot. I want to be fair to say that this is, by FAR, the proudest album I've been involved with

Ideally it *has* already started, and given that you're one of those that accepted the first pick you should still be fine to work on your entry. But between OP upkeep and those that went for re-rolls, things somehow don't seem to be as organised as previous years; not going against the staff, but it does somehow seem to feel that way. :\ I say if you're in doubt over something, the best idea would probably be to log onto the #thasauce IRC channel and get in contact with Starla, otherwise a forum PM to either her or Rama would most likely be a safer bet. As for myself, I'm pretty confident I'd have something set for the September 2nd deadline, even if it's going in a direction that I didn't originally have in mind

Either virt or CarboHydroM would have you beat at the 200MB Wav front, if you think "Crystal Flash" and "Unsealed" respectively would be considered passable site material To draw this back on topic though, I wish I could help out in some way, but "Tomorrow's Wake" is already a 192 CBR encoding (and even then I lost the wav >_>), and "Time's Anxiety" definitely can't be done as long as GrayLightning is absent. Either way, keep up the good progress.
