PRC113: A vacation without R and R, but with yo-yos (StarTropics)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
You don't have time to ponder. It's 9AM EST now, I would typically start the PRC again in a few more hours, and you STILL haven't sent me a source tune. I suggest you get cracking immediately. -
PRC113: A vacation without R and R, but with yo-yos (StarTropics)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
Right, bonuses over. There's nothing to worry about; we've got a clear winner. Now, which of you lucky devils ended up reuniting with Dr. Jones? Total number of mixes - 5 Total number of votes - 8 Highest possible score - 24 Chickenwarlord receives yet another last place wooden spoon with 4 points. V___ and his roomie do a half-asleep stagger into fourth place with 8 points. Alex Smith rollerbladed his way into third place with 14 points. OneUp was shunted into second place with 16 points. And the winner of PRC113 is setokaibarocket with 18 points! I can see why it was a close round; even when listening back to your entry I think you didn't do too bad for a rookie. Congratulations on your first win. So, it's now up to you to decide what kind of source tune is required for PRC114. Since you're new I'll state it all here - the source can be any source tune as long as it hasn't been covered on OCR yet. It can open up any song, like you can go for an under-appreciated song in a common game (e.g. FF6 Gogo) or a great song in an under-appreciated game. Site projects don't count though, so stuff like the boss/escape music in Super Metroid is still fair game. When you've made a decision, send me a PM and I'll get onto it. I'll meet you back here on Friday with the next source tune. Be there, or you can be like me and face a boot to the head on the way there. >.> -

Yeah, color me forgetful. The whole ThaSauce voting time change made me completely FORGET to tally the results up. And yes, you're right, I still need to apply all the bonuses as well. Let me attend to it and see what the situation is like. -

Right, NOW we can move onto the mixing stage. To do so, you visit the ThaSauce link and cast your vote among the five entries there - picking out three and ranking them from first to third, with a reasoning alongside it. Contestants are encouraged to vote as they will gain 3 points for themselves upon doing so. The vote of PRC112's winner (Hylian Lemon) is doubled, so make sure you impress him. Due to ThaSauce's downtime, you will have until Tuesday, February 12th at 12 noon EST to cast your votes. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC114! Legibles Alex Smith - Skanking in the Tropics Chickenwarlord - Normal Pepsi OneUp - House in a Bungalow setokaibarocket - Tequila Sunlight V___ (and his "roomie") - Calypso Illegibles Hylian Lemon - Miracola Mall -

The mixing stage is over! However... I have a feeling it'll be at least a couple of hours before the voting starts at this rate due to the ThaSauce servers inconveniently being down at the moment. I swear, I will get the voting stage ready as soon as it shows its head. -

My plan first and foremost is to deal with the PRC, THEN go around planets collecting power stars. I know about the compo's priority, Ben. -

You guys have over 9 hours left to get entries in. Those that still need to make haste should do so now Word of warning though, the voting stage might start without me tomorrow, as at the time of the deadline I'd be out at the mall (Super Mario Galaxy will be MINE!!1) and it may be a couple of hours afterwards until I get back and set up the post here in the thread. Just thought I'd bring it up in advance. -
The People's Remix Competition 113 PRCv5-9 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Though we had a Spyro track as source material for PRC112, everything about it turned out to be less charcoaled and more "fruity", so to speak. I almost threatened to make lemonade for a low turnout, one of the entries was based on fighting in a giant fruit salad, and it was Hylian Lemon who made that track and secured the win there. Continuing on with the citrus trend, PRC113 takes us back to the days of the NES. We've got a Zelda-esque title among tropical lands far away from urban civilisation, and if I mention that it came with an attached letter concerning a later part of the game, then I'm sure you'll pick up on what it is before you scroll down to the title screen...! StarTropics - Miracola MIDI | MP3 | NSF (track 3) He didn't have a MIDI provided, but I helped form one in time. It's so easy to make MIDIs out of anything that was made before 1995, honestly. But oh well...! GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. Limitations at ThaSauce require your entry to be 6MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by NEXT SATURDAY, February 9th at 4:59 am Eastern US Time. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! If you need help with hosting your mix, contact myself or Doulifée, and we'll help you out.

PRC112: Music can be endless... and hot (Spyro: Eternal Night GBA)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
The voting stage is OVER! (And I finally did my alternate, go me!) So, who escaped the pirate fleet and made headway for the Celestial Temple? And who in comparison is still cornered by a Snail Rider? These are the final standings. Total number of mixes - 3 Total number of votes - 7 Highest possible score - 21 Chickenwarlord receives another last place wooden spoon with 13 points. OneUp got pushed into second place with 16 points. And the winner of PRC112 is Hylian Lemon with 19 points! Well done again Ben. I found your entry to be interpretive yet amusing, so props for that. You know what to do now - you come up with a source tune and send it over to me. PRC113 should begin on time once it's received. With that said, I'll see you all again on Friday for the next exciting instalment. Now go. Ride out this storm and live to mix another day. -

Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
I'm able to see everyone's votes alright. What I haven't been expecting though was a tough call between two of the entries throughout the voting stage. If it's still like that when I check it again, I think my vote will have to decide everything (!). -

Ahoy, is everyone saving their votes for the last minute? There's 9 hours remaining, y'know. As far as my alternate's gone though, I've got a master file ready but I'm too tired to upload it now. Maybe I'll do it in the morning before the results get put up. -

I must admit I was late trying to deal with a bonus entry but I am sure that I will have it polished up before the voting deadline. >.> I will not back off from what I've done so far. But still... The mixing stage is over! This may be nothing like the Metroid compo but we're definitely going places. Good job, all. So, this is what you need to do. You will visit the ThaSauce link, check out the entries and make your vote at the form at the bottom; file them all from first to third and state a reasoning for it. Contestants are encouraged to vote as they will gain an additional 3 points to their score if they do so. Since I won PRC111 my vote gets doubled, so watch out (!). The voting stage will end on Wednesday, January 30th at 4:59AM EST. The winner will get to choose the source material for PRC113! Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
Maybe it's because it's not really a competition in that just one person wins, but rather a drawing board to try and sharpen up their arrangement skill? I can understand why there seems to be a mix of rookies, current hot talent and names from the past signing up in their numbers. -

Two entries; not bad. I suppose I'll refrain from serving any Hylian lemonade then. But we'll still need another entry or two to ensure that we can get a full-blown voting stage going. For that, there's a 24-hour time extension for anyone that's up to the challenge. -

Time to get a reminder going. Less than 12 hours remain until the deadline, so no more slacking now! -
PRC112: Music can be endless... and hot (Spyro: Eternal Night GBA)

Somehow I felt the same. Over the weekend I ended up brainstorming potential ideas for an alternate entry, so goodness knows what will come out of it all, heh. -
I might as well chip in on this. It all comes down from long-term support for the Crash Bandicoot series; on the first forum I found relating to the subject material I thought it would be cool to name myself after an obscure character (the one in question being used was the Eggipus Rex in Crash 3). Then people forged Rexy as a nickname from it, and it eventually stuck.

Chickenwarlord - Overdriven Hylian Lemon - Eternal Fruit Salad OneUp - Eternal Knight The People's Remix Competition 112 PRCv5-8 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Last PRC saw the most successful round this season with a whopping FIVE entries sent in for its Metroid Prime 3 related contest. And amidst it all, I made a comeback to the competition and took the win, although the news was soured by the fact that I shortly announced my coming retirement as host. (No one sent me a PM yet to apply for it yet, which seems a little disappointing right now.) Alas, we have the present to take care of. Our next source tune comes from a game that was merely released in America two months after our previous game. But as is the Wii is starting to settle into its time as a potent games console, the Game Boy Advance is on its way out and we are looking at what the handheld community have seen to be arguably the system's last great title. I know what you guys are potentially thinking - Spyro has seen his heyday as a role model for the Sony PlayStation. But if we compare said dragon's latest outing on the GBA to the main console release, the only thing they have in common is the basic storyline. This handheld incarnation plays more like a classic Metroid/Castlevania title with a great mix of difficulty to attract rookies and hardcore gamers alike, and its gameplay elements in particular helped made it to be the more superior incarnation on the market. The music worked well for it as well - it's not Stewart Copeland, but Amaze Entertainment's in-house composer Tom Miller expressed a lot of what the GBA is capable of when it comes to sound processing. I saw some Mitsuda-esque vibes come from some of the tracks, and I thought I'd pick one of the more melodicly notable ones as the source for this PRC. The stage itself is aboard a pirate ship, where you're trying to fight your way out from captivity as an arena fighter under the watchful eye of its captain, Skabb. Hylian Lemon gets props for helping me with the decision out of four potential tracks. If this PRC somehow goes wrong, Ben will get what's coming. o_O The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night (GBA) - Fellmuth Arena MIDI | MP3 If this thread somehow looks rushed, blame it on me trying to get everything together while waiting for a night out at an Italian restaurant. Mmmm, ravioli. Anyway... GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. PRC111: Phazon-corrupted synths, anyone? (Metroid Prime 3)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
I know what it'll be like, but the fact remains is that I'd have had a good run. Heck, having been there since the middle of Kamoh's run I've seen people that felt the same way for the days when founder reelmojo ran the contest (and he too seemed to be getting life straight as well). Caleb did a great job in building the foundations together, and I hold him in high regard for that. Resigning from the host post won't mean that I won't be completely gone from the scene, more like I won't be there as often as I usually would. I'm sure everything will be fine under the hands of the successful candidate, and I will make sure that I have 100% trust in them before passing the torch. -

That's a very good point, Chick. But that's only a couple of points out of several that the successful candidate should be able to understand by the time the takeover is done. -

It's here, fokes. You asked for it - it's the PRC results! And according to the Stats, we've got the most active round this season so far, so well done everyone! Now, let's get down to the results, shall we? Total number of mixes - 5 Total number of votes - 8 Highest possible score - 24 Alex Smith receives the last place wooden spoon with 3 points. Chickenwarlord sneaks into fourth place with 5 points. Flexstyle begun his time in the compo via a third place finish with 11 points. Nutrtious gets blasted into second place with 20 points. And the winner of PRC111 is Rexy with 21 points! Attention, ma'am. You need to send a source tune to myself in the next 72 hours or you'll get a slit in the throat. ... Eh, yeah. I need to talk to myself less. o_O Still, whichever the results are, I need to come out with the all important news that I left you guys hanging on. And to be frank, it's actually a little grim. Now that I'm slowly having to start to phase into the real world a bit, it has meant that I haven't been visiting OCR as often as I should do. In fact, only PRC has been keeping me hanging on a thread, and someday I have to let go of that as well. There's also the fact that I still need someone to take over the Dragon Warrior project as well ever since I've had no time to consult anyone with that in recent times either. That said, I'm accepting a screening process for both - one person to take over the project, and another to be my PRC successor. I don't know whether to call it quits by PRC117 (which will mark me spending two years running this thing) or PRC130 (the fifth anniversary) but it all depends on how fast I end up finally settling into a job and a new routine in the real world. Regardless, I hope by then I will be able to find someone willing enough to take over when I'm done with this for good. Is anyone interested in either placement? If so, hook me up with a PM. We'll discuss more in the following week from the message concerning the project, and concerning PRC I'll take you through the first part of the screening process during the next compo's voting stage. That said, thank you for your time. You can now take it easy for a while until Friday, so see you next mission. -

The mixing stage is over! Finally, we got a PRC working on time! So, here is what we're going to do. You are going to visit the PRC page and cast your vote from there. Out of the five entries, you pick three and file them from first to third with a reasoning attached to them. Contestants are encouraged to do this as this will also grant them a first place vote if they do so. The vote of PRC110's winner (Hylian Lemon) counts twice. You have until Tuesday, January 15th at 4:59AM EST to cast your vote. The winner gets to choose the source material for PRC112! Regardless of response, I already promised that I'd chip in to the first PRC of the New Year so I hope that kind of helps things move along. But either way though, there will be an announcement between the results for PRC111 and the beginning of PRC112. This will of course relate to PRC's future, so fingers crossed. -
