It's rare that I ever type much outside the competition forums these days, but when Nario told me about the news, I got here as fast as I could. I just can't believe what has happened here. Reuben had so much of his life ahead of him, and I never would have guessed that he could have ended up losing it all this way. From the mixes I've seen he adds a lot of feel to his work and it was so sweet to see it all that way. I just found it horrible that he ended up being a part of a significant tragedy. There's only one time when I spoke with Reuben directly though, and that was when I was seeking for remixers for the Dragon Warrior project (which is still kind of stagnating, and still will be until I locate someone to take over my project management duties). He provided a complete finished work on the Zoma boss fight from the third game, and instantly blew me away with that. If there's any kind of musical example that we have to see around here, it was from this guy. I may be a poster of very little words here right about now, but whichever, we as a whole at OCR will collectively miss him.

The People's Remix Competition 108 PRCv5-4 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! Last time, Alex Smith came to the fore into a Descent based competition and took - after what seemed like a while - his first win (though correct me if I'm wrong, lol). As far as the source tune has gone, he's gone for something pretty fun. I may have only properly approached this franchise through the PSP version, but no one can really deny that this is a very iconic game today. Someone needs to call for their OWN drills to help these poor rodents from their own impending suicide...! Lemmings (SNES) - Opening MIDI | MP3 | SPC What can I possibly say about all this? You better make a strong showcase of mixes before they fall into a pit unknowingly. >.> GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. Limitations at ThaSauce require your image to be 6MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by NEXT SATURDAY, December 1st at 4:59 am Eastern US Time. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! Right, the voting stage is now over. Let's see who managed to fly home safely and take the bacon with them. Total number of mixes - 2 Total number of votes - 6 Highest possible score - 12 And I think we all know where this is going to go...! The winner by an unanimous decision is Alex Smith with 12 points! Well done on your entry Alex, and again for a standing unanimous vote - very cleanly deserved. And for that, it's up to you to choose the next PRC source tune. I can't remember if you won prior times or anything, but I'll mention this - it can be any song as long as it hasn't been covered on OCR yet (site projects don't count, so stuff like Sonic 2's Wing Fortress Zone music for example is still legible). Once you've made a decision you should PM it to me. Thanks for your input everyone (and Kyle, don't worry about the mixers - just be happy we got as much votes as we got this time around ). I'll see you all tomorrow with the source tune.
-
The mixing stage is over. And now, we move on to the voting, and it's all a straight forward process. * Sign up at ThaSauce if you haven't done so already. * Go to the PRC page there and fill out the form at the bottom of the page - decide which of the two songs you prefer with a feasible description. * Click "submit" and get back into the Thanksgiving rush (non-American residents need not apply). You have until Thursday, November 22nd at 4:59AM to make your vote. The winner gets to choose the source tune for PRC108! Alex Smith - Mr Real Ale Alex Chickenwarlord - Foreign Currency
-
But someone might though. We only got one competitor so far, so it's getting the extension anyway.
-
Well there are several reasons why it got a move to ThaSauce. Reason 1 is that not everyone is able to provide themselves with their own web storage so that could be an issue when they try to submit their own songs. The second reason is that even if PRC originated from OCR, there's this awkward belief being passed around that djpretzel is completely against that sort of thing and felt that tucking them away at a quieter part of the forums would cause activity to drop. Hence, third-party support in the case of TS would help boost its support that way. And this may be a silly final reason but it had to be stated anyway - the tallying system on there is a lot easier to manage than Excel spreadsheets (which I used prior to then).
-
You have to, it's a straightforward process tho. Do you have any issues with it?
-
Bah, I must have mislabelled the MIDI before I even uploaded it. I'll fix it accordingly, and by the time I do the link you provided won't work, Chick (can I call you that?).

The People's Remix Competition 107 PRCv5-3 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! It was all about baseball with robots last contest, where Base Wars ended up receiving coverage from a couple of competitors. And after a fair game with no foul balls required, Aussie judgefgt TO scored his first win a while, and a close one to match as well. This contest, we're returning to 3d first person shooters. And it already had 2 PRCs under its name way before I took the reigns, but that shouldn't be a bother, right? Anyway, who's up for launching fire in a six-degrees-of-freedom environment? Descent - Credits MIDI Those who like to use MIDIs with their arrangements, this has shown no excuses to get stuff done on time this time. Do it, otherwise TO would sick a rabid joey on you all. GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. Limitations at ThaSauce require your image to be 6MB or less in size. PRC106: Three strikes and you're scrap metal (!) (Base Wars)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
In Wii Sports fashion... that's the game! Who pitched more runs than the other? Let's find out. Total number of mixes - 2 Total number of votes - 5 (-.o) Highest possible score - 10 Alex Smith only just got struck out to second place with 7 points. And the winner of PRC106 is The Orichalcon with 8 points! Lee, we so missed your aussie judgefgtry. Nice comeback for the PRC, man. Hopefully you won't be as late as Nutritious was for the next source tune though. I hopefully want to get PRC107 up by tomorrow night, so if you can think of a source tune for then that will be great. Thanks for your time everyone and I'll meet you at the same "base" for the next compo. (God, I can't do baseball puns to save my life.) -
PRC106: Three strikes and you're scrap metal (!) (Base Wars)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
Alex, I'm not part of the admin team for R:TS so I don't really know what's going on concerning your track. I'll get in touch with Garian as soon as possible. Still, once again I screwed up with the ThaSauce time feature. The clocks going back around the world seemed to screw things up, and this is actually 5AM EST, so... The mixing stage is over. And now, let's let the voting stage commence. There are two entries, so all you have to do is visit the competition link and decide on your preferences between them with a reasoning attached. Contestants don't need to go through this procedure at all as their votes won't even affect the final score. The winner of PRC105 (Nutritious) has a vote that will count twice. You have until Friday, November 9th at 5AM EST to make your decision. The winner gets to choose the source tune for PRC107! Alex Smith - Watch a Fat Boy Run The Orichalcon - 42 Minutes Precisely -

I'm on my way to fix it. You didn't state the number on the NSF, which made things a little confusing at first. No worries though, let's hope this will be the last blunder this PRC faces >.> -
The People's Remix Competition 106 PRCv5-2 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! We didn't face the best of starts for season 5, I must admit, but in the midst of it all Nutritious came to the fore to provide the winning track for the Star Fox related compo. We both apologise for the delay for PRC106 though, as it turns out that he doesn't come online during the weekends. Regardless, he provided a source tune a few hours ago and we're ready to get PRC106 started. Not long after he sent me the source tune, I actually sat down and played the game myself. Seemed really unusual and I dig it, and I'm no sports person! O_o Cyber Stadium Series: Base Wars - Game Theme MP3 | NSF (track 1) OK. Who's ready to try and shoot for a home run in this round? And who's ready to suck so bad they get a strikeout? GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. PRC105: We Begin Again... in the Lylat System? (Star Fox Command)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
Bah, that didn't do the PRC any favors >.> Oh well... Whichever happens, who escaped from Aquas alive? And who was left to sink with the rest of Slippy Toad's dignity? Total number of mixes - 2 Total number of votes - 5 Highest possible score - 10 (weak!) The winner for PRC105 is Nutritious with 9 points! Well done again, amigo. It was a short turnout but you managed to pull through to make the PRC all worthwhile. You know the drill when it comes to picking the source tune - you send me a PM with your choice and I'll have it up when I receive it. I expect you to have it ready by 12 noon EST tomorrow though. So, this may not have been the best of starts to the new PRC season, but I'm sure something will perk up. I'll see you all next time. -
PRC105: We Begin Again... in the Lylat System? (Star Fox Command)

I never realised ThaSauce had downtime, AGAIN. o_O (Thanks for the heads up.) Regardless, due to that I might add an extra 12 hours to the deadline if anything. -
PRC105: We Begin Again... in the Lylat System? (Star Fox Command)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
OD, THAT'S why I worked on the MIDI for this one as I knew some people could have some trouble with that. Oh well... anyway, we got enough for a voting stage. Sorry if I wasn't there 4 hours ago; seems as if my net connection this morning was all fried up. But enough about that:- It's time to cast your vote. On the ThaSauce competition page (see the first post for the link), you select your choice between the two entries and make a reasoning on it. The contestants don't need to vote this time around as their votes will not make a difference to the final tabulation. The winner of PRC103 (DZComposer) has a vote that counts twice. You have until Friday, October 26th at 4:59AM EST to cast your decision. The winner gets to choose the source tune for PRC106! Chickenwarlord - I'm Amanda's Ex Nutritious - To Those Who Fly -
PRC105: We Begin Again... in the Lylat System? (Star Fox Command)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
I know you'd have something, but it would annoy me (and to some extent DZComposer) that the sole entry in the entire competition could end up being "WIP level" or something like that. I see it to be a disappointment. -
PRC105: We Begin Again... in the Lylat System? (Star Fox Command)
Rexy replied to Rexy's topic in Competitions
I can't believe this. I put so much effort into creating a MIDI for this one, so it makes the input really shallow. I'll extend this by 48 hours on the hope that we can get more input that way. -
The People's Remix Competition 105 PRCv5-1 Hello everyone and welcome to the People's Remix Competition! And here's an extended welcome of course, to PRC's fifth year in business. We've seen so many changes over the past 48 months it's amazing, I give you all that now. I'm sure we'll see some fresh and involving advancements coming as we go through yet another season of the competition, and to be frank, we already have something fresh lined up in terms of remix material. But before we get to it, let's recap PRC103 - we had some Mario Kart GBA material to tackle. Pretty ordinary, huh? What we weren't expecting though was DZComposer having a stab at the contest, and though it was his first time, this veteran OCRemixer came to the top with some nice marching band work. And now, we go onto PRC105's source tune. Given that both of his OCR submissions are from this exact same series there's no surprise there, but what IS kind of amazing though is that this is PRC's first ever Nintendo DS source tune! Star Fox Command - Amanda's Theme MIDI | MP3 Man, this brings back memories of the wait of getting that title, and other things in life leaving there to be a six-week delay between purchasing it and actually playing it for the first time. I feel kinda sheepish o_O but anyway... GOOD LUCK! Fine Print: PRC instructions If you happen to be mixing this song already, start over in the interests of fairness. Limitations at ThaSauce require your image to be 6MB or less in size. Length for length's sake and MIDI rips are not allowed. Entries must be posted in the ThaSauce link by NEXT SUNDAY, October 21st at 4:59 am Eastern US Time. You may enter as many mixes as you like and work with as many people as you like on each mix. The winner of PRC103 isn't allowed to take part, but their votes will be doubled. Do not make qualitative comments on an entry until the results of the vote have been posted. Mixers cannot vote for themselves but if they vote they recieve a free first place vote added onto their score. Doulifée's PRC Archives! Nope, I clearly stated 3:30PM EST. Oddly enough, ThaSauce's PST time system is going to take some while to get used to >.>
-
Okay, NOW we can cease the competition. Are you all ready for the results and so forth? Total number of mixes - 4 Total number of votes - 6 Highest possible score - 18 Nario received an unanimous last place decision with 5 points. Chickenwarlord upgraded from wooden to metal spoon for third place with 10 points. TheoConfidor got his just desserts for criticising R:TS (just kidding) and achived second place with 12 points. And the winner by another unanimous decision is Alex Smith with 18 points! Nice job, Alex; I'm assuming this is your first PRC win, and a really well timed one at that. As soon as Garian and co hear about the result, they will promptly place it to the R:TS track listings. As I said it may not be much, but I hope it will be of a big aid to you. The delayed start for the voting means that PRC105 will be delayed as well by 24 hours, but not to worry. When it does come around, I am really sure that everyone will be appreciative of the trials of PRC's fifth season, wherever they could go.
-
Yikes, the PRC isn't over yet! I misread the finishing time for GMT instead of EST! Man, I feel as bad as you for mixing up times, Alex.
-
Okay, so I was a little side-tracked. It turns out that my brother passed his driving test today, so it seems as if a last-minute meal out was in order. O.o Anyway... So yes, that means that the mixing stage is over. It's time to get to the voting stage. Visit the Competition Link at ThaSauce and fill out the form on the bottom of the page - pick out three mixes and place them from first to third, with a reasoning on your choice. Contestants don't need to place their own works in, as they will automatically get three points for themselves if they vote. You have until Friday, October 12th at 3:30PM EST to cast your vote. The winner gets the promise of a free arbiter's pass to Remix: ThaSauce! Alex Smith - Funky Johnny Chickenwarlord - Arrogance Nario - An Otherworld Awaits Robo Gang Johnny TheoConfidor - Open Mic Night

ThaSauce is generally okay, though if anything it operates at Pacific time (8 hours behind us). We appreciate your prompt chipping of your entry, so expect the polls to open in 40 minutes from now. Also, I still need a PRC105 source tune from DZComposer, though I'm sure that'll come in due time O_o
-
Alex, Ben is right. We have already had about 11 days to remix this. You're not going paranoid, the competition could actually end in half an hour, though do I expect to have to wait for you as well?
