Well like I said, they're great guitarists but I get tired of being told how amazing they are based on the album release. That's like, oh man, N-Sync is great! They're the best singers ever! Except they suck live because there's no computers to autocorrect their voice when they go off-key. But they're still the best singers in the world! Now do you understand how silly this kind of logic is? I like listening to Dragonforce too but I'll be damned if anyone is going to try and convince me that Herman Li is anything more than good-to-okay.

OCR01739 - Super Metroid "Kindred"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
And as always, Pixie's awesome voice adds nothing but class to a mix. -
Dragonforce is okay. They're fun to listen to sometimes and they can get you excited. However they fall pretty hard due to a couple of failings. 1- Live shows are ass because Herman Li and Herman Li's Clone are good guitarists but their albums are 90% synth and studio alterations. 2- 15 year old kids who play TTFATF on repeat ever since GH3 touting how Li is the 'greatest guitarist ever' when they could have gone one game prior and noticed how awesome Buckethead is, especially live. http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=jBaM_Uw-3WY But Mirai, you might say, all sorts of guitarists can play that! Yes, that may be true, but how many of them not only compose that, but start a show by wielding nunchauku and dancing the robot before composing a shredding solo on the spot? http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=Dz9FKIIaoQU 3- The mad rush to have everyone jump up and hate on them for being overrated, because nothing irks me more than completely justifiable dislike of a band that gets muddled in a sea of "DRAGONFORCE SUCKS ASS11!!!!!!11ten!11" Hah! Except for point #1 you're almost ready to describe Nickelback.

I don't see any reason why this song should be rejected.

Chrono Cross - People Seized with Life - Nostrum
Mirai Gen replied to DrumUltimA's topic in Post Your Game ReMixes!
It's not awful - the lyrics are nice and you keep on key a decent amount of time. No offense but your singing needs to be much better before it will surpass the quality-check on OCR, methinks. I think that not having to think about playing the piano at the same time will help. One thing you could try is recording the piano and then do the recording-studio thing and play the piano on headphones while you sing. That way you can focus your attention on the vocals, which will (I think) help immensely as I mentioned. Having said thus I'm looking forward to the final product. EDIT: The rest of the checklist looks just fine for a WIP. Double-check the production level on the final product and you should be just fine. -
The lurker strikes back! Does anyone know if the Play! Symphony has an MP3 collection somewhere, or maybe a CD to buy?

OCR01601 - Guilty Gear X2 "Destroy Movements"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I've always always always loved Guilty Gear's music - even when it was practically chiptunes I loved the arrangement. This is a great cover of Writhe in Pain, and honestly if they were to make a Guilty Gear Anime this would be the music. Beautiful reinterpretation. Masterful. -
If you could to a remix/rearrangement, what would it be

Mishmash of all of Lufia II's soundtrack. Preferrably rock or orchestra. -
Xbox live is miserable for GGXX play. The lag makes FRCs almost impossible, and that's only if you can FIND a player. I got Guilty Gear and played it like every other PS2 fighting game. Wish I hadn't. Now that I'm trying to go professional, I need to unlearn everything I did with the PS2 controller 'cause it screws with my arcade pad usage. If you're getting into GGXX (you might even say "getting hardcore" into GGXX) I suggest going to Dustloop forums. There's alot of comprehensive guides and information about Guilty Gear (And it's a fun community too).

Lufia II Battle Theme, with a spritz of lemon!
Mirai Gen replied to Mirai Gen's topic in ReMix Requests
Well Lufia's got such an awesome soundtrack already, I only wish that the SNES could have done it justice. Hence my request. Really, this isn't so much of a request as a hope that listening to the MIDI might spurn a bit of creativity. -
Sinistral: http://www.rpgamer.com/games/lufia/luf2/sounds/midi/luf2sinistral.mid Always one of my favorite music tunes, notched right up there with the immortal Noubu Umaetsu. I'd prefer something epic like an orchestral mix, but I've only been going off of some of the lousier remixes I've found while scrounging about the internets. So. Please? EDIT: If needed, the mountain theme is pretty awesome too. http://www.rpgamer.com/games/lufia/luf2/sounds/midi/luf2mountain.mid

Did I miss something? Sonic 3 - Bonus Retreat by McVaffe was one of my favorite mixes on the site, and it's suddenly gone. I couldn't find it in the torrent, and it wasn't on the downloads page. I googled it and can't find what happened to it. Was it part of the OC Remix revision that happened a while ago? What gives?

OCR01514 - Mega Man 3 'Blue Balls'
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I have to say I like this mix alot. Even though the background really is very, well, background, the transitions that were made reminded me of "SNES Battle Medly." I found sticky fluid in my jeans at the transition into Boss Music, and when the main chords of Snake Man came in (one of my favorite Mega Man songs). That was stylish. -
OCR01506 - Double Dragon II "Twin Blood"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
Terrific. Absolutely terrific. What's the song of? I can't remember for some reason. -
There's other differences too, but then it's just turning into splitting hairs. I still love the new CD, and you guys still kick craploads of ass, but the full-out million-dollar studio did something right with Little Mac's Confession, Grim Reaper, and Cataclysmic Clash. Something about it just sounded raw. But, as just my opinion, I didn't mind the rythm guitars in the first CD not 'sounding like real guitars', because it felt more appropriate to the 'metal' aspect, methinks. So, yeah I suppose I do like Sound Blaster live. Anyway, conclusion - I really do like the mix. It was different and tough to get used to, but I gradually came to understand it would be impossible to improve on Nintendo Metal and that I should stop bitching about little things. So, yeah. I'm a whiny bitch. Don't listen to me anymore. Great second CD, and Nintendo Metal shall forever live on as unable to be topped in my mind.

It's not that, it's that comparing this song to their first album marks a huge difference, therefore everyone is going to notice and point it out. The sound quality was just such a complete jump, everyone was surprised. If the first CD sounded the same quality as this, nobody would have batted an eyelash.
-
Main reason I didn't like the vocals, was because I was expecting Cataclysmic Clash/Little Mac's Confession all again. And, yeah. Too slow, not enough WHAM! power. It was dragging out, and it just didn't work nearly as well for the main singer, whom currently has no name because it escapes me. The vocals are fine when the song picks up. At 2:20, the vocals become acceptable. Side note -everyone should hear their Mega Man 2 mix on the new album. I think they should have submitted THAT instead...but I'm also a huge fan of theirs. And, because it's funny....

I didn't like the intro to this song, even though I overall liked the rest of it. Something about describing Zelda with the "Huuuuuuuuuur SKIIIIIIIIIIIIN" opening the sentence just made me wince. I still don't understand the severe drop in production quality - having bought both CDs, mostly it's just the second demo. But I liked the rest of the song, and I'm glad it was accepted.

OCR01489 - Zelda II "Battle of the Hylian Hero"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
It's about time someone made a really good Zelda II remix. Not just the Temple Theme - I love all of the music from Zelda II, and it gets no lovin'. Anyway. The gradual rising in the Temple Theme was really well done. I loved the fade from it into the battle theme song, then right back in. Very stylish. Would have stuck well to include more of the title theme, but that's just my nostalgia. Heres to the hopes that you return soon. Good stuff. -
OCR01477 - Mega Man 2 "Wily and the Deep Forest"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I like the general concensus - the opening was overly-expected and pretty lousy, but then it took off. I like the latter part of the mix, when it goes into the slower part of the song - I'm running this in Firefox, so I can't stamp a time. Overall, pretty good. Very good, actually. Just try to avoid laquering in that opening again. Needs to take off faster. -
OCR01266 - Street Fighter II "The Ken Song"
Mirai Gen replied to djpretzel's topic in ReMix Reviews & Comments
I liked this mostly because I'm a fan of Game Over, big time. The problem I had was at the very beginning of the vocals, it seems hollow. It didn't fit. BUT! That's not to say this doesn't kick shitloads of ass. I wasn't this thriled since I listened to Game Over for the first time.
