  1. Figured I'd post this here in Community since this is Video Game Related and I didn't want to get chewed out for posting VG-related stuff in Off Topic.

Ahem. Be aware! The 2010/2011 "Club Nintendo Year" for the North American Club Nintendo Rewards program is coming to a close, which means that your progress toward Gold (300 coins) or Elite (600 coins) status will be reset for the next 'Year'. You will of course still have your Coins earned for those years (note that I am not talking about Coin expiration, strictly the end of the Year for Elite status progress.

What does this mean for you? If you actively use Club Nintendo and register your Nintendo systems and 1st party games and are hoping to earn Elite status and get a secret prize(Elite status prizes in the past have been: A Mario Hat and a rather big statue of Mario and friends; Gold rewards have been; A calendar for two years straight), you need to register your games and do your surveys by the end of the month! Note that you earn 50 coins for every Wii game and 30 points for each Nintendo DS game registered (*they're usually first party Nintendo games but I believe there are some Final Fantasy games that have codes), plus 10 Coins for any surveys you do on the Club Nintendo site.

  2. I'd like to clarify that I was asked only to tally and post the voting outcome for Round 2 of the Proto Man bracket. As Demko voted after the 12:00PM EDT deadline, I did not count his vote, as per the rules. Votes from people who had not voted in all battles within the round were also not counted, as per the rules.

Anything else is out of my hands.

  3. On a similar note, Fatal Frame would be great as well.

I read about an innovative use for the Wii U controller where you can use the controller as a "window" into the game world outside of the bounds of the tv screen. I think it would be pretty awesome for a horror game to utilize that feature so you can look around your living room and see a monster or something.

Also, Wii U Zelda can use it as a new Lens of Truth for looking at hidden stuff on screen.

  4. most trolled thread 2011

What ABOUT the PSN Hack thread? Stay on topic!

On a serious note, you people criticizing the Wii U for "being a step behind" are being ridiculous (and I think Nintendo showing off Wii games for it's Wii U demos was a mistake, but alas). You argue that because Nintendo's system is barely getting HD output capabilities that it won't be as successful as Microsoft and Sony's successor systems? Yeah, the lack of HD graphics really hurt the Wii didn't it?

By now, anyone telling Nintendo what they SHOULD'VE DONE instead of the Wii is kind of stupid because the Wii was a huge success for them. Not only have they succeeded at fishing the "Blue Ocean" of untapped customers since 2006, but they have successfully diverted their competitors into jumping onto the motion control bandwagon while giving developers the time to get experience developing on HD systems like the PS3 and XBOX360. Now they have what is basically a 3DS as a controller and a system more capable of

and a controller that can be used in ways the Move and Kinect cannot. If it's one point you can make it's that by showing off the innovative controller now, possibly a year or two before Microsoft and Sony detail their own systems, Nintendo may be giving the competition a chance to steal their new technology from the word go, instead of years after it becomes successful.

Also I think all this negativity is due to one big factor, and it's an understandable one: people are overreacting because they aren't seeing any games at all built specifically for Wii U. The games will come. The 3DS is also suffering from a lack of games at the moment and so Sony seems to be striking a chord with the PSVita's pricing (though I'm not sure what games people are interested in there, aside from Uncharted). And let me say again, since people seem to not be reading my posts: people are acting like this tablet controller is a stranger concept than the Wii remote when it's the equivalent of a 3DS bottom screen with an additional circle pad.

  5. The last glimmer of what the old Rare was. Way back when the Stamper Bros were in charge and when the developers there had their dignity and weren't forced to make Kinect shovelware. I did some reading last night and apparently the entire art department of the modern "Rare" are temps.
  6. Currently now with the "Wii-U" I just feel no connection to it like I did with the Wii and past systems.

I'm kind of surprised to read that people find this new system MORE of a "gaming culture shock" than the Wii. If anything, I would've figured that the name and controller (since it's basically a VERY traditional controller with a screen on it) wouldn't be so shocking or unwelcomed after the radical departure that the Wii has been. This has four buttons, at least. Or maybe people are just antsy because virtually no games have been seen on it. The games will come. They're just a long way off. |: <

Note that I realize you personally may not be turned off by the controller concept, Schwartzvald, I'm speaking generally.

I personally was taken aback when I saw the controller. I was expecting something a bit smaller. Then I realized that this new system promises a great new online platform and at the very least, my favorite Nintendo franchises in glorious HD.

  7. Someone tell me if I am wrong here, but... It seems like with Wii U, Nintendo is just catching up to the 360 and PS3 technology-wise, with HD and now third party support... Are they going to remain behind a whole generation due to this? When the PS3 and 360 new systems come out in a couple years, will Nintendo still be with this current technology or will they have YET ANOTHER console come out to compete with those 2?

I already addressed these concerns. Some key points:

    - no footage of a "Wii U game" actually running on the system has been shown. They did show off some footage of 360 and PS3 games (which will be ported to the Wii U; likely for the launch window) but this isn't at all an indication of the limits of the technology; this was just to show that it can handle what is being made for the current generation's systems. The Bird/CherryBlossom/Fish tech demo video may give you the best idea what a native Wii U game might look like.

    - The Wii U is said to be significantly more powerful than the 360 and PS3

    - It has been shown before that the most powerful system isn't the most successful.

    - The Wii U IS going to compete with Microsoft and Sony's next systems when they appear. There are no indications how powerful those systems may be and it may indeed be too expensive to make anything more advanced than what is being used on the Wii U. Who knows?
