  1. It's the majority of the time that artwork has to speak for itself rather than the artist being there to explain what they did. I'm hoping people are voting on what track they enjoyed the most, as Sir NutS said, and not for whose name they think is more recognizable or what artist they think is more popular. It's also up to them to have listened to the source tunes in order to determine if the remixer has utilized them both (and while the rule is simply to 'use both themes', I myself vote based on how WELL they were combined). The voters will determine whether they think the work meets their satisfaction. I generally don't think it's in good taste to campaign for your entry. Let it speak for itself. Not everyone who votes is going to be a musician that understands all the fancy tricks you used.

  2. Yeah, I quickly started to DREAD tucking in and waking up my pokemon all for some shitty berries and lackluster pokemon with lackluster different abilities. |: <

And I've said it before but flat Flash-based PC-based room decoration doesn't tickle me as much as the portable game-boy-graphics Gen 2 room decoration did.

And it irks me how a lot of the custom C-gear skins that have been coming out in Japan and stuff are magazine promotions. The C-Gear is a piece of crap.

  3. Oh, that Kotaku.

    Also: very cute image, Brushfire.

Also also: were you planning on answering my questions regarding "sincere regret" and "accountability", Brandon? Or do you think Brushfire's image summed up your thoughts well enough?

taking down their service purposely for so long makes no sense financially --

I understand that you don't like Sony -- No company would hurt their image this badly on purpose, period.

    Thank you.

It's the stupid conspiracy theories cropping up from people who hate the evil corporation Sony (for whatever reason) that really grate on me.

Suggesting Sony took down the PSN and claimed their customer data was compromised, all a PLOY to GAIN SYMPATHY? Are you kidding?

The morons at Kotaku only pour gas on the idiocy flames with their inaccurate reports.

  4. Considering they don't really accept accountability over the issue nor show any sincere regret over it...

I could understand you saying they haven't expressed regret if they hadn't offered up any sort of apology or a compensation reward but they're providing complimentary ID theft protection services, they have apologized and they're giving us complimentary games/movie rentals/services and offering extended services for their paying customers that suffered from the downtime, among other things.

I'm curious as to what you think would better demonstrate "sincere regret"? Were you hoping they would give everyone $400?

They can't turn back the hands of time and get your name and address back from the jerk that took them.

I understand and even concede that it would've been nice to get a voucher to pick a game instead of choosing from a list of popular titles, but luckily for me, I don't own every title they're offering up, and I doubt many people do.

And how should they "accept accountability"? By saying the breach was their fault when they claim their security was up-to-date and up to standard? I know there were reports that claimed Sony wasn't running the latest version of Apache, but that turned out to be bogus. I know it's easy to be hard on Sony and ask for their head on a silver platter (and I don't doubt a lot of people would've been happy for this to be the end of them) but let's try to keep perspective. Presumably what launched this data breach into being was that Sony took legal action to protect its business (short version).

Have they paid enough for that 'offense'?

  5. Yay! I'm gonna get Dead Nation and Super Stardust HD since those are the only ones I don't already own. (Strader: the other games on that PS3 list are good games. If you like futuristic racing w/ weaponry and great eletronic music, get Wipeout HD. LBP is great for anyone with a soul. There are lots of great levels premade on the disc and there's a whole lot of user-created levels on the online portion of the game.)

Aaaand LBPsp and Killzone Liberaccion on PSP will be great!

And I like PS Home so the 100 free clothing/items is pretty cool. :3

    I like movie rentals too.

    I'm happy.

I'm not saying everyone should feel ecstatic about these offerings but at least you're getting something.

  6. So Japan isn't letting them turn on the PSN in Japan because Sony hasn't yet met publicly unmentionable requirements that were promised on May 1 yet? I'm sure they weren't REALLY dancing around the office for 28 days only to release the same 'vulnerable' PSN with a bandaid on it.

Yeah, they haven't done a lot of what they said would be coming yet. They've only restored the online play and sign-in for the regions that have been turned on. Maybe the portion that the rest of the world has allowed them to turn on has been upgraded but the rest isn't and Japan is being nit-picky. I don't think you can buy anything or input credit card info yet, so I don't know why peopled are all bunged up. Besides, even if Sony were cleared in Japan, there are going to be people who will refuse to ever use the service again; even to play a few rounds of Street Fighter.

  7. What's wrong with 'fucking Texas'?

I find that most people who hate on Texas have never even been here. They just buy into the strange hate-hype that the rest of the country propagates. Now, I can't speak for Houston or Dallas, but San Antonio and (to a lesser extent) Austin are great cities with really nice people (though maybe you just don't like darkies.)

Also: Not all of us declare "Don't Mess With Texas" in a literal sense or acknowledge it as anything more than an anti-littering slogan.

I wouldn't say "I hate Canada" as I've never been there.

Having said that, I think we can all agree that Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi are horrible.

Now how about that PSN outage!

  8. I highly doubt any personal information was stolen. Why? Geohot isn't the kind of kid to steal personal information, he does what he does to be famous, not to be in jail. I met the kid while he was at RIT for a quarter, and he's not a criminal. He's just a kid who likes to hack stuff.

I'm almost dead certain Sony said that personal information was compromised to turn the tide and get the consumer base frown upon Geohot and Anonymous.

It sounds like you think people are saying Geohot himself did this.

Also, you think Sony announced it had lost all it's customers personal information so they could gain sympathy?

This was mentioned very early in this thread before and I still don't get why that would make sense. I'd be stupified if they gained more sympathy than they've gained scorn from that development.

When do you guys think we'll get the unadulterated truth on this whole debacle, if ever?

  9. Again, this is all he-said-she-said until anyone says otherwise.

Unfortunately for Sony, Sony's customers and Anonymous(the greater organized body of hackers/activists, if "they" are innocent as they claim to be,) the real perpetrators are out there feeling the least of the brunt of their actions. They're probably laughing at how they've managed to play everyone against eachother.

    - Sony's customers angry at Sony for their "flawed" security. Sony customers angry at "Anonymous" for compromising their personal data.

    - Sony suspicious of the hackers (claiming to be "Anonymous") for infiltrating their system and compromising their customers data. Meanwhile juggling a nightmare of bad publicity and rumination.

    - "Anonymous" (the greater organized body of hackers/activists claiming innocence) angry that Sony would call them out after finding the planted file.

This all works out for the real intruders.

Unless of course the truth is brought to light and they get caught.

  10. That letter says they're also offering complimentary theft identity theft protection services. To what extent? This is the first time I've heard anything of this, and that's quite appreciated imho.

Hopefully it's something more than the links to the credit bureaus and reminder that we're entitled to a free credit check they've already 'provided'.

Let's hope this is included in the yet-to-be-announced portion of the "Welcome Back" services.

Also that Anonymous thing, if true, doesn't really mean much. The association with anon is loose, and anyone could have claimed to be them. Doesn't mean it isn't true, but I wouldn't take that at face value either.

    I agree with this.

  11. Boy, a company starts bleeding and everyone runs up to suck up the blood.

Playing right into the hackers hands.

"They had bad security because they got hacked."

"They mishandled your personal information. Take legal action against them."

"Never buy anything from Sony again."

Anyway, in a letter to the House of Representatives, Kaz Hirai announced that Sony apparently found a file that had been uploaded onto the system (apparently part of the "SOE" attack) that stated: "Anonymous: We Are Legion". The plot thickens.

Sony also stated they believe the attacks on PSN were in fact designed with the ultimate goal of the personal data, which I don't believe is the case.

  12. Let me reference another post I made detailing the data breach on Gawker Media(Kotaku's parent company).

The article linked within is very good reading for anyone participating in any debate on this issue.

As I see it, these attacks are nothing more than terrorism. Group A decides Group B is offensive and wants to humiliate them on the world stage. Sounds very familiar, doesn't it?

Was it the hackers intention to steal PSN users personal data and credit card information? Highly doubt it.

Who was worried about the PlayStation Network's security before the hackers decided to focus an attack on it? How many people were stymied about traveling via airplane directly after 9/11?

    I guess terrorism works.

  13. I understand zircon's position on this, but trying to calm the fervor and point out how these people who might have had their info leaked, who are frustrated, scared and sometimes even paranoid, are wrong is not a smart idea. Calling them childish for jumping a bit too far in the over-concerned category is also definitely not called for. I know that I won't be purchasing another console or piece of software for PC from them after this. And free PSN+ doesn't seem like a lot to make up for it: I had no interest in PSN+ in the first place, and I'm not sure how many people did.

For my part, I'm not upset that people are frustrated at their data beng compromised. I'm frustrated that they don't get their facts straight before they raise their pitchforks in the air and repeat bogus headlines that turn out to be glorified and false. If telling someone who posted on here that saying 'Sony announced that credit card data WAS DEFINITELY compromised' was stupid and that they're playing right into Kotaku's little paranoia machine is wrong, then I don't want to be right. So far all that has been confirmed is that Sony fumbled with our names, addresses, telephone numbers and birthdates (all our PSN login informaton). SOE's breach apparently only had less than 1,000 active credit card numbers compromised. NO PSN USERS Credit Card data has been confirmed to be compromisd. Again, I say we wait til that is verified (by a governent agency, if you dont trust the devil company Sony) before vowing never to use their products again. Then again, who am I to tell you what to do?

"Free PS+" is not a legitimate offering. Because, as we all know, it only offers lowered prices on things that you'd still have to buy.. with your credit card... not gonna happen.
We've managed to come up with a surefire list of compensations Sony can afford to these jilted users to ease their frustration:

•Cause the upcoming system update to make a box of adorable puppies come out of the user's television. Aww' date=' who could be mad now?

•Allow each PSN user to just run through the PlayStation Store, grabbing everything they want for free for exactly one minute, Supermarket Sweep style.

•Just give each user like, $20. Like we've always said: A Jackson makes the problems go away.

•Do the puppy box idea and the $20 idea. That's what we like to call synergy, folks.

•Make the PSN freer? (We're still workshopping this one.)[/quote']

  14. Let me clear up a few things.

    * 77 million users personal data(Name, Address, Telephone number, etc) WAS DEFINITELY compromised. I don't think anyone is denying this up to and including Sony.

    * 10 million users credit card info MAY have been compromised but there is no evidence to confirm.

    * 3-Digit Security Code info definitely WAS NOT obtained.

Brandon, you stated that Sony had announced that 10 million users Credit Card data WAS DEFINITELY obtained. That never happened.

As for zircon possibly mixing up the CC data user count and the personal data user count, maybe he did.

    - Now Kotaku (lol) is reporting that another attack this morning has apparently caused Sony to take down their Sony Online Entertainment "Station.com" service (I don't even know what that is, apparently it's an online portal for PC games such as EverQuest). As with the PSN attack, the media is claiming Credit Card data may have been/was compromised; no doubt to hang onto the huge amount of traffic any article related to TEH HACKING OF SONEH/UR CREDIT CARD IS STOLE generates.

So yeah, if this one turns out to have compromised CC info, don't act like I have to eat my hat. This is a different attack from the PSN hack.

  15. Do PSN+ subscribers get free game downloads in the form of sales (e.g., free PSOne games occasionally, etc.), or just exclusive games that most of the world doesn't care about?

There are some "Free games" that you can download and enjoy for only the entirety of your subscriptions activity. So when it runs out, they deactivate. The main draw of PS+ is the discounted prices for many items on the PS store and early access to betas and demos. There are also wallpapers and stuff.
