  1. There is no doubt that the sound quality of this is good, but the arrangement is quite boring, and there is nothing to make this stand out at all. NO
  2. Very well produced piece, good mix. Not much to say really. YES
  3. I like the organic sound in this, but that string tone spoils the overall feel for me. However, despite this, there is something about this mix, it is done with feeling. YES
  4. This mix sounds way too sharp! The high frequencies pierce the ears! This is an over done smiley-face eq type mix - it seriously lacks mid-range frequencies. Nice groove, and I thought the mix arrangement was definitely passable, but for me the mastering issue makes this a NO
  5. Not much of a re-arrangement here. I found the mix was not engaging, the amount of reverb used really put this in the background. Interesting low frequency bass textures though. NO
  6. Nice guitar, very sweet sounding. However, the low end is quite muddy, and there are times when I can hear it clipping. Give us a better recording please! NO
  7. Wow, this arrangement is really good. Even though the sounds aren't all that great, they are squeezed to perform their best. If this guy invested in some better sounds it would really do a great deal. YES I was going to say that some of the sounds are dry, but after reading that he's working on that issue, the yes is without hesitation.
  8. This is repetitive and the feel itself doesn't change at all, there is no change in the energy, and no progression. I think what this needs more than anything else is some variation. NO
  9. This sounds really nice - but won't pass because it's just too close to the original for my liking. NO
  10. These patches were not used with much imagination. The transitions are blatant and awkward, and there is next to no vibe. The arrangement is bland, plus the encoding rate is way below standard. NO You need more practice.
  11. Oh this is much better, I like the piano bit, it adds more dynamic movement to the mix. Definitely a yes. YES As I said last night on IRC, I want every mixer to look/ (sound?) their best, that's part of what we do. If we don't think that a particular mix does a remixer justice, we will say so, it benefits everyone. Just wanted to echo what Liontamer said really.
  12. I've been watching a lot of the olympics, and this reminds me of a really safe floor rountine. Nothing too risky - at the same time though, it does lack character a little bit. But it is a good mix, all I would say is that this is a little too 'standard' and 'safe' in terms of style. Be a bit more adventurous next time. YES
  13. This is a really good mix, but DarkeSword hit it on the head with what he said. With the muddy sounding low end percussion issue sorted, this mix will sound a lot cleaner and do you full justice. Right now it gets in the way and would distract the listener, preventing them from fully enjoying it. NO
  14. This is too empty. Even though it is sparse at times, if the bassline was more prominent it wouldn't have mattered. I thought that the mix actually got progressively worse in terms of instrument balance - you could at least hear the bassline at the beginning of the mix. I think the thing that lets this mix down is not the idea, but the execution. With just the right instrument levels this could be pulled off. But as it stands, NO
  15. Yeah this sounds nice! I like how the texture was really thick, and then the neat beat was nicely put in there. Love the instrumentaion, arrangement and mastering. YES
  16. I really enjoyed what this could have been. The pads frequencies are clashing together and that droning just continues throughout the whole mix, obscuring the lead instrument and the impact of the drums. If the pads were an octave higher and mixed more in the background perhaps the other sounds in the mix would be brought forward. Voice samples were used well. Please re-submit. NO
  17. This mix is everywhere and yet nowhere. I like 'hecticness' but this mix doesn't feel like it is standing on solid ground. Not much here other than 2 panned drumloops and a couple of bleeps here and there. Needs more textures (to make it sound fuller), and more creativity for the mix to achieve it's purpose. NO
  18. I think this is definitely the kind of original flair we want on oc. I understand DJP's concerns, however, the lyrics are about space harrier and if as Vigilante has said, the chords in the bridge are from the original, I think we can pass this one. YES
  19. Wow, the buildup was half the length of the mix! Perhaps too long for some? Instrumentation was good, arrangement was good, I enjoyed it - this passes for me. YES
  20. I like the arrangement, but the sound is really wishy-washy, due to the overuse of reverb. NO
  21. Yeah I use both of those methods. The only problem with loading a very long sample into reason is that you have to start at the beginning of the song each time you want to hear it. The second idea is much better, and essential when you want to add vocals. Just solo out an instrument on the mixer, and then export. Continue soloing tracks and repeat.
  22. Ditto everything above - the instruments, and the way they have been used just isn't convincing at all, they all scream "fake!" NO
  23. The beats are great here, but this needs a lot of re-working. The mixing and mastering is really bad on this. The bass frequencies are really muddy (especially with the sub bass that come in at 1.14), while the piano lacks any life and badly needs some reverb. I would recommend checking out some resources on mastering. NO
  24. *cough* So, getting back ON TRACK... I like this groove. Yes it is simplistic, but that is part of it's laid back feel. The one thing that makes this borderline for me is that all the little bits from the original are in here, like ALL those little background bits. This mix definitely has a nice sound, and groove. I can hear Reason... YES
