  1. This is probably one of the more concise first submitions. Although short, it provides wonderful sound quality and arrangement. I love the smooth laid back almost jazz-ish feel, with wonderful new chord progressions and harmonies. Instrumentation is great. Marc Star is great at providing short but awesome remixes (except BootyMix, which is longer ). Blue
  2. This is very emotional. Great job applying a new chord progression to the often-remixed Zeal theme. The distorted piano does work very well as djp stated, which is not usually the case. The slight waiting at some points on the attack of the piano adds great feel. This has a unique style, and perhaps is one of the more creative of the Zeal mixes out there. Blue
  3. I have a little bit of criticism to add to the reviews on this pretty well done arrangement. First of all, the piano has too much reverb, making many of the fast sections muddled together. Second, there isnt enough contrast between the melody and the counterparts/bass parts. The melody needs to be louder, and it seems that everything is mixed a little low, which makes it harder to distinguish the differences in volume. In comparison with the original, this does a pretty good job of taking it and transforming it into a piano piece, while keeping a consistent style. I think I actually prefer this piano arrangement over the original Nice job lightwarmth and Nex. Blue Edit: Something I forgot to add: the articulation sounds all the same to me...thats what you get using a keyboard and a piano sample but oh well
  4. The audio editing in this is superb, the part when the choir comes in is awesome. If you like McVaffe, this is a must have. ~Blue
  5. Another creative and unique remix by Mazedude. Despite the intro's weirdness, I like it. Mysterious and atonal yet very interesting. I love when things pick up and the sax and muted trumpet play back and forth. Nice work encorperating so many things into this mix. Blue
  6. Definately very different. Could be used to define strange but strange in a good way. It has a lot of unexpected surprises. Good job making something out of the ordinary. Blue
  7. This is a very unique interpretation of the original. I like the beginning and the last 2 minutes most, but at some points there is a lack of flow and movement. That descending piano sequence that happens in the beginning gets annoying after being repeated so much, but it doesn't hurt the song too much. Good arrangement, and of course wonderful singing by Destiny as usual. ~Blue
  8. Well, the arrangement end of this song is fairly good, giving a new age-ish take on this zelda theme. However, the performance was a little iffy to me. As a whole it feels very choppy: sometimes you seem to rush a bit, or an arpeggiated passage isnt very smooth. Things like this occur frequently throughout and it would have been better if more time had been spent on the performance. However, much of what I said could be due to you playing it differently each time; improvising differently with the theme each time. I know from experience in improvising on the piano how one changes the song each time its played, which does make the performance end less solid. I usually memorize almost all of a song of mine so that only one or two spots are constantly different, but that's just me. Anyway, moving away from the performance, the arrangement itself was nice, except for some spots where it didnt flow well. 2:36- There is a resolving chord, followed directly by a tense sounding one. It just doesn't sound right to me, and the change isn't smooth. 3:15- There is a space followed by a lead into the next part that sounds awkward. The Ending- The lower chord after the high notes doesn't seem to fit, as it is rather random and unnecessary. OK, so those are picky things but to me they hurt the piece. Overall, I think that the arrangement and performance is good but could definately been improved on. ~Blue
  9. Now this is something one could go to sleep to. I absolutely love this rendition of this crono trigger (/crono cross) theme. The piece is almost like one dreamlike journey or state of mind. The bass fits perfectly with the other instruments. It has a wonderfully smooth quality about it. Everything fits together flawlessly. Beautiful. ~Blue
  10. Wow, this is amazing. I can definately hear the baroque influence, especially with the harpsichord coming in later in the song. The first half is sort of mystical and haunting. 1:15-The wonderful drums overlap the melancholy background. Gives it a unique feel. The harpsichord is very realistic as well as the other instruments, and makes the song sound medieval. I cant help but say that this remix reminds me of AfroCelt Sound System Especially at :46-1:40 and somewhere in the second half. Anyway, a true masterpiece. Now I need to go download the rest of Israfel's remixes ~Blue
  11. Man, I didnt have access to the internet for almost two weeks, and I come back and the site has its new layout AND there are a ton of new mixes by wonderful remixers. Naturally, after seeing that McVaffe had a new mix up I downloaded it right away. What's really awesome is parts of it were in the McV 2003 preview so it was cool hearing the full length song. The bells are really cool, it gives it a unique feel. The whole song is smooth, and the parts fit together nicely. The song is laid back and relaxing, sounds reminescent(sp?). Awesome work as usual Mike, I'm so glad you got around to doing this. ~Blue
  12. This is some wonderful work. Shows how soundfonts can be used to create something magnificent (they are soundfonts right? =P). This song is a very inspiring piece of work. I look forward to seeing the next three movements show up in the judging. Keep arranging Unknown. ~Blue
  13. You downloaded it on dial up?! Wow, it must be real fast dial up or something because that would take forever...
  14. OR how bout the 2003 preview jk, I dont really care which McV song is played, most of them are all good Back to Ziwtra: If Larry cant play Skyline, how about Ziwtra's Final Fantasy Adventure mix, 'Willed Assault'....that one is quite awesome.
  15. If you could play 'Skyline' by Ziwtra that would be awesome Larry
  16. Nicely played. There are some spots that arent as smooth but overall the piece was played fairly well. There are a couple times when it rushes, but piano pieces are much better performed than sequenced. The arrangement itself is nice, but the same chords are repeated a little too much sometimes. Also, sometimes the chords are leading the piece, as in the melody is not very strong, and doesnt flow well enough. There needs to be a sense of phrases in the melody, where this is more chord based. But, I can see how you'd rather have it more chord based, if that is the feeling you'd rather portray, which comes as a laid back easy listening piece thats kind of relaxing. I however would rather have a flowing melody in phrases, instead of just chords and patterns that fit them. What makes a song stick in people's heads is usually the melody, rarely is it something such as the chord progressions. Overall, this is a smooth, jazzy piece that is good for relaxing to but I think could've had a more developed melody. I'm sure that others will think differently, it is a matter of opinion and depends on what type of style the remixer wanted. ~Blue
  17. I havent heard the original so I cant really judge it on how well it interprets the original. When I first heard this song, I didnt like how the lyrics were cut up in the first half. After a few more listens, I came to the conclusion that it worked well, and now I think it sounds very nice. The piano nicely complements everything, and the synth work is good...One part that doesnt seem to work is the tempo change, there isnt a good transition into it, since it kinda flattens out, and starts again in the new tempo. Otherwise, the rest of this song is great. I really like the ending, it has a wonderful sweeping feel on a beatiful chord. Too bad there arent any more mixes with similar style to this one (atleast I havent encountered any) ~Blue
  18. Hey Larry, if you're takin requests for this saturday, I have a few songs in mind... 'BubblemanSoapAndWater' by AE 'Broken Mirror Reflection' by Alexander Prievert
  19. Awesome show Larry, thnx for playin MC for me ~Blue
  20. Mmm very nice sounding arrangement. Vigilante mentioned something about Jeremy Soule just putting the melody from Terra over original chords that dont work. I think that might be just opinion that they dont sound good, because I think they work quite well. There is a lot of original stuff, but the Terra theme is still present enough to call it a mix. One thing that I dont like about this piece is the "piano." That sound confused me at first because it doesnt sound like a piano, more like some sort of chimes. Is it just me or does anyone else feel that way? Anyway, nice job Jeremy, I hope you submit future pieces to OCR... ~Blue
  21. That step up you're talking about, do you mean the key change near the end? If I remember correctly, that key change is in B4U glorious style, so maybe SGX got it from there...or he just added it for fun
  22. I shouldve downloaded this sooner I absolutely love it. The piano intro is majestic. Sequenced amazingly, great job MC. The whole song is great, and even though pretty similar to original, it provides plenty of variation. Lyrics are done well in my opinion. The effects on the lyrics are cool, and in the second half of the song have some cool additions. (dont know really what to call it). Anyway, this is my favorite from SGX, keep it up. ~Blue
  23. There are very few good rap songs in my opinion. This is one of those good ones. Everything sounds very nice, and clean. The vocals are amazing, recorded perfectly. I dont know the original lyrics people have talked about but the lyrics here are cool. The only thing that bothers me is that cheesy brass loop that. I just dont like it. Aside from that everything else is wonderful. I look forward to future mixes- ~Blue
  24. Man I'm bummed I missed the show. Thank Nex for that I was playing Halo with him and some other peoples at his house so I couldnt use his computer. Ah well, Halo was fun. By the way, I am one of the worst players at that game since I have played it only about 4 times. But, despite my lack of experience (and being killed every 2 seconds), I enjoy the game a lot. I'll try my hardest to tune in to the next show. ~BlueEnvy
  25. Darke has again proven that some soundfonts and skills in FL can bring about some great stuff... There is so much in this mix, and all of it fits so smoothly together. Each new section is transitioned into the next so well that it sounds complete, nothing is missing. The Instruments are wonderful, and chosen appropriately. Pretty flawless, this mix represents the originals in a new and happy way, and elaborates the themes nicely. My favorite part is at 2:12 where the nice little synth provides a serene arpeggiating pattern that is beautiful and dreamy-like. Great Work from our newly appointed judge, Darkesword. ~BlueEnvy
