  1. OR A DRAGON.

speaking of that, my wife gets pissy because of all the graphic sex scenes and nudity, and rightly so - there's a lot of it! i don't suppose there's plans for a standard TV version of the show, is there?

Not that I'm aware of. Eventually they sold the rights for a content diluted version of the Sapranos though, so anything could happen. There is a lot of it but HBO actually isn't adding a bunch extra to the series like people might think. The books have quite a bit of sex in them and tons of references to nudity.

  2. Indeed. Things were a little faster paced in episode 5. I was glad to see them go back to the Hands tournament and show the joust between the Knight of Flowers and The Mountain. After the quick glimpse of the tournament we saw in the previous episode I figured they had cut it out.

Sword fight between Jamie and Eddard was awesome.

  3. the books blow the series to pieces, even though the rendition is excellent (the Imp is particularly well done, i think). definitely worth a read.

    Yeah, it's true.

In truth it really has been an excellent adaption. Probably my biggest qualm so far is the way Theon Greyjoy is being portrayed in the series versus the books.

On HBO he's being portrayed as sort of an insolent, creepy, discontented person. In the books he is portrayed as this ruggedly handsome but somewhat crude ladies man, that is actually shockingly loyal to Eddard Stark, considering he is his captive. He really doesn't have any problems with Robb, either. They enjoy one another it always seemed like to me. I won't say more because I don't want to throw out spoilers but... That would have been an easy thing to not mess up.

  4. Jon is represented really well by Kit Harrington and for the most part his story is accurate and well scripted. The only thing that is lacking is Ghost and it's possible we will be seeing him in future episodes.

Emilia Clark does a fantastic job playing Dany. The reason I say it is watered down is because in the book she is portrayed so much younger and she is forced into a barbaric marriage. Also, Viserys comes across a lot more cruel in the book.

  5. Interesting how they change Dany's whole marriage thing from the book, though I think the changes make sense in the context of the show. Still really enthused about the show. :-) :-)

If anything Dany's story has been watered down, not intensified, for the series.

  6. All the direwolves have pretty much been written out.

Not really. They did a pretty good job with Lady's execution and with Summer protecting Bran and Catelyn from the assassin at Winterfell. Summer's scene was actually pretty awesome.

Ghost is so important to the story of Jon.

He really is. Ghost, for a lot of the story is the mainstay of Jon's confidence when he's feeling forlorn in the Night's Watch. I don't expect Ghost to play the central role he does in the books or anything but for pity sake we haven't even really seen him at all.

  7. It was just an ordinary evening. There was nothing peculiar or special about it. I was hanging out drinking beer in OffTopic like I always do and I supposed it would be the usual uneventful evening it always is as far as trolling some shit was concerned.

I put my feet up on a nearby ottoman, raised the beer to my lips and swallowed deep. What happened to you OffTopic? You used to be so cool. I thought. I should start a thread. As I pondered troll worthy topics nothing came to mind. I glanced up on the web page and gave the PPR sub-forum a side long glance. "Oh fuck no!" I whispered to myself. There's no way in hell I have the mental energy for that tonight. Another beer could only help the situation. First I lose my job due to the economy slouching so hard and quickly. Then my best friend gets married, which cuts drastically into our hangout time. Soon I'll be out of beer again. And now even OffTopic and PPR are practically at a stand still. The world is on fire. I gently shook my head to myself.

The room was dark save the middling glow emanating from my Dell notebook. As I began to get up I heard the faintest of noises coming from my open window on the far side of the room. "Is someone there?" I called out. No, there is no way. I know I'm home alone. At first I was sure my mind was playing games on me but as I stressed my eyes a little harder, I saw it! Eyes! A tall dark figure stepped out from next to the curtain and into the faint glow coming from my laptop. "Who are you? What are you doing here?" I plead. He was wearing a ski mask and in his right hand he held what appeared to be a truncheon. Then I heard him speak.

It wasn't the harshest of voices but it was intense and confident, "DJ sees you." "I'm sorry, I don't understa.." My voice trembled as his thick left hand found my gaunt throat. "We all see you. Understand?" I looked into his his forceful eyes but couldn't speak for fear. "It's fucking April! Understand!" He shook me fiercely and with Batman like speed placed the club against my cheek while his grip tightened lividly around my neck even more. "Yes, yes. I understand!" My words were rushed. "Good!" He pushed me back with a quick shove. I tried to continue, "But I don't have any mone..." He turned to the nearby coffee table and with a quick side swing of his cudgel he sent my tawdry vase flying against the wall in a million pieces all of them flying across the room and falling to the floor like so many pieces of glass and sand. He turned back to face me and pointed the blunt weapon at me, "April is almost over my friend. I give you four days." As he walked back to the window I reluctantly found the strength to speak again, "Who...who are you?" "My friends call me Jimmy. You will call me BGC." He stuck one leg out the window and turned to me one last time, "Four days Flare." and then he asserted with his club, "The Pretzel sees you." And he was gone.

I finally remembered to breath. After gasping for air a few times I caught my breath. I returned to my computer and quickly checked on my Paypal account. "I hope this is enough." I said worriedly to myself. Please! Let this be enough.

    I sent it all.

Srsly though, love this place. Glad to help what little I can.

  8. Episode 2 is awesome as well and so far they are still doing a fantastic job of not cutting too much out from the books.

Some of the emotions that you should feel for Daenerys Targaryen in the book are definitely being rushed through but honestly I don't see what else they could do without simply giving her so much screen time that it would detract from the other parts of the story.

So far Peter Dinklage portraying Tyrion Lannister is who I'm enjoying the most.

    Yep, it's still lookin' good.

  9. It's getting more blatant, but American music has been about sex since for decades. There comes a point in everyone's life where they listen to songs on the radio and realize, "Oh, they're singing about banging. Huh."

Why just American? When I think of early 80's songs that are about shagging plenty of European songs come to mind.
