  1. I agree with Mr. B and Mr. T; this really isn't that impressive. It's repetitious, strung out, progressively layered, and a bit boring. Nothing is going on here besides percussion, which is good. But there's no real arrangement save a few motifs thrown in here and there. I do like the sound of the breaks and the synths and the general groove, but looking at it from a composition standpoint as we do to everything else, I wouldn't have passed this. NO
  2. Nothing too daring or experimental, but certainly a positive interpretation and arrangement. Soft recording and less busy-ness give this a floating, gentle quality. Conservative, but it works. YES
  3. In that case, this submission does not meet our guidelines for a game remix... because there was no game involved. NO
  4. I think this arrangement is pretty conservative in regards to the two themes Gray mentioned... I expect more than almost-upgrades from Gecko Yamori at this point. As far as the mix goes, the addition of (fake as hell) tremolo strings and the slides on the bass help the original groove, but that's just it; the original groove. I like how this sounds as much as everyone else, but I could just listen to the gyms instead. Ending seems to be tacked on without much effort. I'm borderline on this; I'd like to see GY rearrange more than just cover. NO
  5. Israfel definitely should have heard back about this submission a long time ago; this sincerely is a mix that "fell through the cracks", big time. An obviously unexpected and different interpretation of the original. Polytonal is cool depending on how it's carried out. The texture and instrumentation are there, but the arrangement - not the artsy composition - is the weak point as I see it, considering that it's a single motif spread thin over four minutes without much progression from beginning to end. I admit I'm a little biased against this in waiting for his Shivers mix to be submitted and posted, but to me it seems that Michael was more or less having fun with this arrangement and didn't take it as seriously as his other works, which are stronger. NO
  6. I never knew Mitsuda was such a hillbilly...
  7. Auteur - Titre Good playing, but the recording is flaccid and could definitely still stand to be improved. Besides production, the arrangement is a repetitious one with a bad fade-out ending. NO
  8. Lots of improv, but lots of repetition too. The delay on a few of the patterns gets old. There's nothing technically wrong with this piece, but there are few dynamics and little energy in the arrangement. A plateau development. Borderline NO
  9. At least THIS ain't 80% water. Probably the best use of harp as a leading instrument I've heard from a videogame arrangement. The dichotomy Jesse mentions is indeed evocative. Serene. YES
  10. The piano is definitely out of tune, but would've given the arrangement an interesting sound if the lame percussion wasn't such a strong juxtaposition and the choir was less of a carry. Either way, this is generally off-key and rough (hello, clipping) with no real benefit. Like those rough drafts I'd write on the school bus due the same day. Refine. NO
  11. Yeah, this is a strange one. I'd almost expect to hear it in a Charlie Kaufman film. The instrumentation is a mish mash of ideas, and I'm not sure if they work together. The original's piano, synth strings, off-kilter xylophone, industrial snares, hissy guitar recording with strikingly loud on beat strumming... I think that covers it. But what can count for rearrangement is really only the looping xylo, as the new guitar has little bearing on the theme and is pretty much filler. Not much ReMixage. Neat ideas and a great title, though. NO
  12. Interesting beat for a fanfare-ish theme. I like the analogue lead, cool sound. Unfortunately, the mix is a lot of ambience and general noise stuffed around the original notes; no real rearrangement aside from progressive layering. NO
  13. This is a plateau beat-driven... remix of Halo? I can't even recognize any Halo in here other than the choral samples. Anyway, why is everything so muffled? It's like this is meant to be heard on the back-burner. This mix plays it safe, too safe, and just ends up repetitive and straight forward. NO
  14. Another binster with a hip ICO mix. What could go wrong? Ok, now I hear the cause for WTF. It's more different than messy for a bridge; I actually think it's kinda cool. In fact, this mix is processed and laden with complete coolness from beginning to end. It's in your face and makes no excuses about it. And builds and transitions introduced in reverse are always fun. Very good arrangement of the ICO title theme, thumbs up. YES
  15. Shariq, man, you use that sax font a lot! I don't think this is on par with your other work... not too much happens here in terms of dynamics or change-ups; the afore mentioned sax seems to be the carry of a bland piece. The spirit's certainly there, but I just think this drags on without anything very interesting going on. Borderline NO
  16. These sounds are definitely low-fi (downloaded 'heavily updated' version from soundclick), but the real problem here as I see it is not the samples or even the huffy guitar sound; it's that the whole mix is stale from beginning to end. There is nothing else going on besides heavily retriggered guitar and simple drums, so most of the track sounds empty and dry without any sonic variety. No pudding. The guitar composition is indeed rockin' (not sure about that tempo transition ~ 4:14), but the instrumentation is sparse, the sound is unconvincing, and the arrangement is cut and dry. NO
  17. Please. The Rainbow arrangement for MK64 is boring enough; I don't need to hear a flimsy reproduction. More. NO
  18. I will add that I agree with what Israfel has said, but my concern is that with passing the mix we had violated our own standards used to reject other submissions. My NO is not resolute, however.
  19. I still like the atmospheric value of this piece, but we've rejected mixes that sounded just as good and were more original arrangements than this one. In retrospect, this would probably have been rejected had it been known that it was a 'straight guitar transcription.' And I know Brad is capable of rearrangements. NO I think that in the future we should require submitters to mention in detail the source material they've mixed so we can bypass this easily-avoidable confusion.
