  1. Eh. Same notes, predictable build-up, uneven mixing. This does not have many parts for a full orchestration, and what's there is made bland by inattention to placement. The samples are of course nice, but they're not so amazing as to carry this rather watered down arrangement. In fact, if they were of any less quality, I'm sure this would be an easy rejection. And the clicks and pops that Gray mentions are inexusable. NO
  2. Good catch, bhaiya. Not too bad, but not suitable for the site if the source material wasn't originally videogame music. Besides the bad drumloops, the production is rather muddied, and the same reverse cymbal is used way too much for transitions; even the ending. NO OVERRIDE
  3. It's surmisable that all musical elements besides the lead were generated or preset by some means, with or without that information.
  4. Besides the reasons already mentioned, auto-generated songs = NO
  5. Nope. Yep. I think the first three votes given to this mix are misleading, and should be clarified as the one I quoted.
  6. Yeah, I really don't know what the others meant by this being too close to the original; I'm hearing it as being too far out. This decision needs more clarification before it can be locked.
  7. Yup, the drums are haphazardly impressario. Scale them back. Piano hits a bunch of wrong notes and sounds extremely floody. No bass. The arrangement is practically buried under the percussive wankery. Very messy. NO
  8. I agree, the background chromatics give off a bad vib... uh, they sound flat, and their pattern just continues on without change. Cool instrumentation; I like the whole light and simple feel. Unfortunately, the arrangement is much too sparse and repetitious. Keep at it. NO
  9. Dhsu's got a pretty chill pianist style; it's interesting to hear it applied to the MK64 Rainbow song, although it was already a calm/wimpier arrangement of the original Mario Kart's. Snowland was incorporated well. Not sure what was going on around 1:25 - sounds awkward to me. Otherwise, this is good stuff. YES
  10. No highs, no lows. Everything sounds completely washed out; I can hardly concentrate on the arrangement. The horns sound like tubas and the strings sound like mayonnaise. Besides the deficient mixing, not much is going on in terms of composition. Ouch. NO
  11. That scream in the intro is... disconcerting. This mix is very simple and very simple sounding. Casio grade synth pads NO
  12. If you're going to tell us it's the first song on the page, you might want to keep it that way... Not bad sequencing, but the arrangement is sparse and layered; boring. The lead sitar sounds very synthetic and its pitch bends around 2:30 are awful. Good mood setup, but you have to take care of arrangement and mixing. NO
  13. My problem with this mix is that with all its intricacies, it's still thin, sparse, and weak. The introing synth guitar (?) panned right is notated strangely, making for weird tonalities, and it's a feeble sound to begin with. Drums are doing neat stuff, but they too sound limp, especially with stagnant velocities. Enlivening these samples with some major tweakage and filling the dry holes in the sequencing could make this sound lively and rich. NO
  14. Ambience doesn't work when the most instruments you have playing at once is less than three, and what little you have isn't even appealing. The synth strings are wimpy, the phaser boring, and the fx not enough. Create a full, enveloping sound. NO
  15. Neat. Unfortunately, this is pretty much the original syncopated with a beat. Incorporate original notation and progression. NO
  16. A couple chords and simple looped beat with awkward rapping overlaid doesn't make a substantial rearrangement. Very little of the original track was even used here; I agree with Gray when he says this is more of an "inspired by" song than a remix we could post on this site. The chords and beat are beyond minimal to the point of simplistic, and much of the freestyling sounds stilted and amateurish. This is a song in which the people involved obviously had fun with, yet its musicality is lacking and the arrangement is almost nonexistent. NO
  17. Simple piano, simple drumloop, simple accompaniment. Simple altogether. Much of the original composition is left out; while subtractive arrangement works, this arrangement is simply subtractive, without any benefits. On a less technical note, it also just sounds dull, and the poor mixing of that drumloop doesn't help. NO
  18. Extremely sparse with inconsistent levels of movement. The pads don't do much for accompaniment and the percussion is very poor. Not much here at all; lame fade-out doesn't help. NO
  19. As much as we enjoy the talent behind this submission, we all know there's no way it's getting on the site; let's get the 4 NOs or override this.
  20. Are we all listening to the same mix? This doesn't sound much like the midi to me. I'll come back to this one...
  21. Many tonal issues here between instruments playing in unison; timbres become especially flat given the poor sound quality. Percussion is extremely weak. Piano and guitar do give a welcome break from the other instrumentation, though. Good improv and soloing, but more than a simple rendition of the melody and better mixing is necessary. NO
  22. Annoyingly low-fi and repetitive. The drums don't do much at all besides laying down a simple beat and drowning out the fiddle rhythm. The instrumentation is entirely too simple. Is the violin scraping meant to be authentic? It sounds out of place. Good to hear something different, but this has a long way to go in terms of mixing and arrangement. NO
  23. This is a good arrangement of a repetitious song. Violins are an appropriate mainstay, and the play between the pizzicato, synth, and bold drumline is enjoyable. Some of the percussion gets hard on the ears as it drones on throughout the mix; more activity or scaling back on the volume might've helped. Aside from that, there's plenty of variety and balance here. YES
  24. ... Good guitar, but uh, yeah. Sure does sound like it was made in 15 minutes. Shouldn't have gone to the panel.
  25. Ouch. That organ pops my ears. Pay attention to mixing so everything doesn't sound like raucous mush. Why does the ending cut off? NO
