*NO - NEW POLICY* Streets of Rage 2 'Infectious Oldskool'
Digital Coma replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
[12:37] * Digital_Coma is playing Gecko Yamori - Streets of Rage 2 Infectious Oldskool OC ReMix (0:00/3:24) [12:37] <@Vigilante> i dont see anything wrong with having a policy [12:37] <@djp_semiaway> my problem is all the work that's involved with my write-up EVERYONE ELSE'S reviews, the judging, etc. - all to repeat for something that's had relatively few changes. I think we should only entertain as additions, not replacements, and it would fix the problem. [12:37] <@Vigilante> that's reasonable [12:38] <@djp_semiaway> i.e. you can remake your own shit, but it better be different enough to constitute posting as an ADDITIONAL mix, not a replacement, and it should be judged in that light. [12:38] <Digital_Coma> for some reason the panel majority thought this was different and good enough [12:38] <@djp_semiaway> in that light, I don't think this is different enough to add. [12:38] <Digital_Coma> i dont think this is a good example to set forth [12:38] <Digital_Coma> for such a policy NO Sorry this took so long to be decided. -
So, this mix is clearly rejected by the judges panel. I completely agree with all previous no votes.

OCRA-0002 - Donkey Kong Country: Kong in Concert

I updated the download page with a link to a RAR containing the cover art in its original .png files. You can open .pngs with just about anything, so print them however way you like. The Gang-Plank Galleon Part 1 and 2 arrangements are separate tracks meant to be played together without pause. Use the .cue files included in the torrent to burn the CDs with the zero second pauses in the right places, or manually insert zero second pauses yourself. Run-down of tracks which need a zero second pause before them (as mentioned in the Album Instructions readme also included in the torrent): (CD1) 02 - Hemophiliac - Swing, Monkey, Swing (Simian Segue) 03 - JigginJonT - West Coast DK Island (DK Island Swing) 04 - Unknown - Rest and (Re)spite on a Soft Summer Night (Cranky's Theme) 05 - Adhesive_Boy - Cry of the Chasmal Critter Chain (Cave Dweller Concert) (CD2) 14 - smh - Arboreal Ascent (Treetop Rock) 21 - SnappleMan - Thrash the Plank (Gang-Plank Galleon Pt 2) The links to the two arrangements rejected by peer review are still active and can be found in the history thread here. As I'll be saying again and again, thank you everyone so much for your feedback. Your support itself has made this project possible. -

Dance what now? Anyway, someone else had the same problem, Fusion2004. Make sure each cue file in each CD folder remains there with the respective WAVs when you load the cue in your burning program. If they are and it still doesn't work, try updating your version of Nero or try CDRWIN. Both cue files follow common CD standards, so they should work with programs that follow them too. -

http://dkcproject.ocremix.org is back online thanks to aubrey hosting the site on SuperTux. I need all the fast, dedicated mirrors I can get. Contact me privately if you can provide one for the MP3s, OGGs, or both. These are offered as printable Nero Cover Design files available in the torrent and now on the download page of the site. -

Thanks to the slashdot and me stupidly leaving links to the server hosted MP3s, my site binnie.org ran about 160 gigabytes over its allotted bandwidth. I'm having problems with my account at superbhosting.net, so for now and probably for long dkcproject.ocremix.org will redirect to http://members.cox.net/dkcproject. Use that address for now while we get the domain redirected to the Cox site. -

1-10 and 11-22. The divide is noted in the directories of the album torrent and in the blurbs. -

DarkeSword asked this thread to be moved to the Site Projects forum. This project has progressed far enough to have a place there, where it can be more easily followed and moderated. -

*NO - NEW POLICY* Streets of Rage 2 'Infectious Oldskool'
Digital Coma replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Yeah, I really don't see why we should entertain this request anyway. It's not that different from the original mix already on the site, so who cares. GeckoYamori can work on new stuff and leave this alone. -
*NO* Chrono Trigger 'To Far Away Memories'
Digital Coma replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Mostly a cover of the original theme with rough acoustic guitar takes, weak percussion and accompaniment, and serious notation issues. Something bizarre is going on at 1:03 - 1:10 and 2:00 - 2:01. Rhythm guitar sounds generally off throughout the mix. Good feel, but the execution is extremely lackluster. Instruments are messy and notation/playing is awkward or just wrong. Not too much original material besides a few new chords and transitions, and what is new is not so interesting. NO -
*NO* Final Fantasy 'Fanatasy de Trance'

I'd like the buildup in a certain context. It's slow and the drumloop is lazy, sure, but the repeated patterns and one new layer per measure work great for a club sound. I'm digging the groove, and then the exact same synth waves from the nsf come in, and I'm reminded that this is a videogame mix. I don't abide by a videogame track with the same videogame instruments being plopped in the middle of an otherwise wholly original song. The accompaniment and harmonic additions to the first few Metroid notes work fine, but with no new progression or melody comes the unmodified nsf. That is not the way to do trance if rearrangement is intended. NO

Lockdown is a lockdown. Don't set precedent and allow everyone to replace their old pre-1000 mixes unless you're ready to deal with the headache. -
OCR01226 - *YES* Chrono Trigger 'Rhodes to the Past'
Digital Coma replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
A very borderline call due to no overt modifications to progression or melody, but enough changes to instrumentation, added sound texture, and subtle compositional additions to be acceptable. Doesn't help that this is a melody that anyone who's anyone knows by heart, but we neither make allowances nor penalize for source material. -
Are you insinuating something?

*NO* Eternal Champions 'Altered Awareness'
Digital Coma replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
The original song has some neat Asian texture through the use of pitch bends. This mix has nice sound textures as well, especially with the synth bells, koto, and wind fx. However, the airy wind instrument lead starting at :52 is consistently too far back, leaving the stagnant drumloop forefront, which is consistent throughout the mix. Continuing on, the pause at 1:52 is awkward, a shaky distorted bass enters, and the mix ends with the drumloop even more annoying during the ritardando. I like most of this instrumentation and I like what was done with the original composition, but I want to see: -- more dynamic percussion, chill or not, and less reliance on the drumloop -- more cohesive arrangement with less reliance on the pause and less repetition -- more 'fullness'; accompaniment, textures, layers NO -
*NO* Xenogears 'Child of the Stars' *RECALL*
Digital Coma replied to Protricity's topic in Judges Decisions
Legit and not enough. I referred to it as minor building block arrangement. My argument is that those additions aren't enough to call a rearrangement. -
