  1. No shit, now stop submitting. The Police fans are going to love this. Very cool to hear their influence in a mix. More of the original mine theme should have been used here to great effect; this could have easily reached a level of excellence with more rearrangement of the awesome theme, instead of simply incorporating only part of the melody and soloing for the rest of the song. As it is, this is good. YES
  2. The instrument samples used to play the melody are exactly the same as in the original. Exactly. They play the exact same notes as in the original. Exact same.
  3. Violations: 1. Die Hard Trilogy 'I Love The Airport' YES - insubstantial original, but no excuse for so much repetitious rippage and verbatim notes with sfx additions 2. Ys 'Beat of Terror' YES - rip 3. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun 'PharoTeknical' YES - original extensively sampled 4. Streets of Rage 2 'Funkdreamer' YES - too much rippage 5. Donkey Kong Country 'Strolling The Mines' YES - samples original instruments playing original notes verbatim; mostly original song otherwise 6. Usagi Yojimbo 'Homage to Amida Buddha' YES - too much rippage with a few additions 7. F-Zero GX 'Dr. Stuard (Jeff & Toad Air Team Challengers)' YES - rip; this is a very obvious trend from Cyborg Jeff 8. Earthbound 'Dreaming on Distant Shores' YES - [05:38] * Digital_Coma is playing Mother 2 - A Flash of Memory (0:04/0:55) [05:39] <Digital_Coma> um [05:39] <Digital_Coma> the whole mix comes from just this? [05:39] <Liontamer> apparently [05:40] <Digital_Coma> that's two fucking chords [05:40] <Digital_Coma> fuck this Definitely beyond the boundaries of 'liberal rearrangement.' Having listened to the barely-even theme, I see how ridiculously deviant this "mix" is, having no relation to the Earthbound soundtrack other than in style. May be violations: 9. Final Fantasy 10 'The Final Summoning' Borderline, come back to it later
  4. Ugh. I understand the concept behind this piece, but it's buried under screwy keys, bad notes, irritatingly sustained church organ, default FL plucked instrument, and a whole shopping list more of basic issues. Work on following keys and not repeating a familiar melody verbatim, especially. NO
  5. Exactly. Some interesting phrasing here and there, but on the whole very messy, flubbed, and fake. NO
  6. Exactly. This intro is literally laughable. Picks up a bit afterwards... sort of. Symphonic instrumentation is cool, but it and everything else is extremely messy. The inclusion of a screeching noise makes no sense. Very poorly done. NO
  7. Repeated single chord. Original theme on top. Shitty vocal clips. No ending. Absolutely nothing of interest. This is what NO Override is for, buddies.
  8. Nice to see DJ Crono branching out. Unfortunately, there are too many problems with this endeavor. The piano is crap. It's just a crappy sample. Together with some weird electronic sfx, it makes for a really crappy intro. The mix thankfully gets better than that as the vocals come in; the harmony is cool and fits the style, but as mentioned, there are plenty of iffy intonation flubs to blemish it. Instrumentation on the whole is good, but each track is just not used very well in conjunction with the other. The percussion is dodgy, the vocals are messy, the koto lead dry, etc. Not well done and a really repetitious arrangement. As usual, I like DJ Crono's ideas, but they just fall flat in execution. NO
  9. Get rid of the vocal clips. They're intrusive, annoying, and detract from the actual music, which is mediocre to begin with. That's all that needs to be said here. NO
  10. Impressive rearrangement of a Gameboy song. I never liked the sparse simplicity of most .gbs tunes; good arrangements of them are especially apparent. However, this particular theme is rather complex; this is a good orchestration of it, though I'm not fond of the more messy strings and piano parts. Finer spatial mixing and production would have helped that considerably. Anyway, YES
  11. Cool site. Mind titling your mixes? Very, VERY SIDish, as many C64 remixes seem to be. The high pitched instruments are not so ear-piercing to me, but the sharpness did startle me. In fact, I really like the crunchiness they provide. I have no problem with the mixing, obviously done for stylistic purposes, but I have a strong suspicion that this is a cover of the original tune. My vote will ignore that for now. This nameless mix gets a NO for such poor support and development. Though there is a strong melody present, it's left to dry coupled with an undeveloped progression and supporting parts like repetitive accompaniment and lazy synthlines. Start listening from one point then skip to another; the patterning will sound almost exactly the same. I may change my vote if/when I hear the original. PROVIDE OBSCURE SOURCE MATERIAL IN YOUR SUBMISSION EMAIL
  12. After much thought and change of mind, I declare this submission to be a good example and model remake of an old mix, the first to be added under our new addition policy. Although not totally revamped, 'Blue (Shooting Star Mix)' is a vast improvement over its former 'Blue' incarnation in sound quality, mixing, and production, and also a different take on the original Evergreen theme, as arranged with focal phased percussion, added instrumentation, and more downplayed melody. This 'upgrade' is sonically improved and most important and key, arranged differently enough for it and the old version to stand separately on their own. YES to addition
  13. Decent DnB arrangement, but borderline on the side of NO for these three main reasons: -- very limp, unaltering synth parts (especially the pads) -- what small portion of the original that is used here is used repetitiously -- overall under-development of theme Although somewhat loopy as mentioned, the drum programming is good; it's the mix's strong point. However, this mix needs to do some more composition-wise before I can pass it.

  15. Congratulations, submitter. You have earned the highly esteemed and sought after:
  16. DUDE... This means so much. First, a DKC programmer and composer know of the project. Second, they like it. Third, Dave Wise personally appreciates and enjoys rearrangements of his videogame music. I am very, very happy to hear this.
  17. Congratulations, Jesse. It's incredible to hear from Dave Wise himself, considering he's nowhere to be found on the net. Although we wanted to share the email, we didn't post the man's address out of courtesy.
  18. I'm afraid you need the "Platinum" version of Easy CD Creator to insert zero second pauses between tracks. I don't know how WMP works regarding gapless pauses or CD burning (does it?). I know there are gapless plugins available for Winamp. My recommendation is to download a free trial of Nero or CDRWIN to burn the CDs or even buy one of them; they're worth it.
  19. No, he's referring to a crappy Gang-Plank Galleon mix Ari was making before I told him to stop sucking.
  20. Krispy made this. He finished and submitted it to OCR. Daniel Baranowsky made this soon before he quit.
  21. Major ROFL's were had by all. McMustin: I don't like Protricity and I don't like Star, but at least one of them has talent Kaleb Grace: which one is that? McMustin: BRB
  22. If you want the old WIPs of the arrangements, ask the artists if they still have them, because I don't and I wouldn't post them all up anyway.
  23. The problems with this mix are its dull sounds, awkward sequencing, and straightforward arrangement. Judging a presence of effort in a submission is a pretty useless effort itself, but it's safe to say by how much of a boring template dance song this mix sounds like that not all too much creativity could have gone into making this. Basic, basic repetitious beat and one-note sequenced leads are especially tiring. Mediocre. NO
