  1. If the server remained on the same map, it's a network issue rather than the server crashing. I've noticed that the server has been having network issues lately. Also, free Portal through May 24th. Edit: I also had a 301.1 kB TF2 update today, but the server binaries are unchanged. No idea what that was about.
  2. Unlocks are controlled by the Steam cloud, so if the clients and server can't connect to the Internet... There may be some server plugin to change this, but I don't know of one. Also, any time your server and the masters lose connection, items will be locked at their current selections until the connection is re-established. Edit: Some of you may have noticed this already, but Valve is backporting some features from Team Fortress 2 into an updated Counter-Strike: Source. Beta here. The stuff they're porting: -Orange Box game engine -Lifetime player stats and summary screens -Match player stats and summary screens -End of round display with MVP and interesting fact about a player -TF2-style scoreboard with new icons, visual style, MVP stars, and avatar pictures -Cinematic death camera -Domination and revenge system -Added avatar icons to scoreboard and end of round display (and voice chat, but TF2 doesn't have that) Oh, and they're adding achievements to the game... 144 of them.
  3. Even before that, though, some games had music as CD tracks. Whether they used real instruments or not, I can't say. Some examples of this era: Sonic CD (both the US and EU/JP versions) (1993), Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (1993), Lunar: The Silver Star (1993). Getting back to the original topic... I don't know if any of these 3 papers are useful or not. They were collected at VGMusic.com over the years: "Video game music: not just kid stuff" (Matthew Belinke, 1999) "Levels of Sound (Eric Pidkameny, 2002) "Quality Video Game Music Scores, Considering the Standards Set, and Personal Reflections" (Daniel DeCastro, 2007) GameSpot also has two features on Video Game Music: A Brief Timeline of Video Game Music, written in or around 2001. A History of Video Game Music, written in or around 2004.
  4. FF7's PC version actually used MIDI, so it's not surprising that it's the only accurate set you can find.
  5. Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include: Team Fortress 2 * Fixed a missing localization string * Fixed an issue where Linux dedicated servers would not automatically retrieve master server addresses I've installed it on the server, but haven't bothered restarting it, because it's just a minor update. Edit: BLU emptied after cp_granary came up twice in a row, so I restarted it.
  6. Here's the thing... I don't know if it was.
  7. So, there was an issue with cp_coldfront_rc3 and it needs to be replaced on the server. I'm hoping Icarus gave the second version a different name, because if he didn't, anyone who downloaded it is going to have issues when the map comes up in rotation. Edit: ....and he didn't. So, anyone who already grabbed cp_coldfront_rc3 is going to have to either delete it or manually get it again and overwrite it. The file size of the fixed version of cp_coldfront_rc3.bsp is 63,987kB (65,521,671 bytes). The file size of the bad version is 63,645kB (65,171,482 bytes).
  8. I didn't see any flickering Spies last night, but I wasn't on for that long.
  9. Pav runs the server, not I. I do know that both TF2 servers and an L4D server are on the same box. Not sure what else.
  10. Server, mirror, mapcycle, and maplist (for voting) have been updated to RC3. Edit: Also, the server's been lagging a lot lately.
  11. A required update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the update. The specific changes include: - Fixed players seeing cloaked Spies when they should be fully cloaked - Updated the Homewrecker --- It now damages enemy sappers on friendly buildings - Fixed items not displaying correctly while playing back a demo - Badge hire dates now display the time in GMT I'm going to update RED now, BLU to follow. However, it is interesting to see that the Homewrecker now has a secondary use.
  12. er... I can see why Backburner and maybe Natascha are on that list, but why is the Huntsman there? It's a lot easier to pick people off in the distance with the Sniper Rifle even with Bodyshots than it is to kill them at closer range with the Huntsman. Jarate and Razorback on the other hand... Unfortunately, since rockets fire after the guns start, you'll never actually take out a fully repaired sentry that way.
  13. Servers are finally restarted. Mission begins in 60 seconds.
  14. Servers haven't been updated yet. The server updater is being its usual "we don't let you choose a mirror so it takes forever" self. Also: Coming Soon
  15. Brush doesn't have access to the Admins file. Anyway... Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include: Team Fortress 2 Mann Co. badges updated Added new "Primeval Warrior" employee badge Moved badges start date to the official TF2 release date of October 10th, 2007 Gave "Primeval Warrior" badge to anyone who played in the TF2 Beta prior to the official release Adjusted existing badges based on the new start date Fixed player avatars being squashed in the Arena win panel Fixed a client crash caused by players calling for a Medic Fixed a server crash caused by receiving invalid data in player commands Fixed wearables attached to ragdolls not setting their skins and bodygoups correctly Fixed deflected remote-detonate pipebombs becoming mini-crits when detonated Fixed deflected remote-detonate pipebombs becoming full crits if the Pyro is critboosted Prevented custom models from showing domination particles in PropHunt
  16. OK, we finally got this sorted out. Both Toomz and Dr. Suredeath Trballer were added to reserved slots.
  17. Nonsense, they always need to Spycheck. Even if you and Paranoid aren't around, that doesn't mean I won't be.
  18. I must have just missed it then. Whoops. Oh well, better late than never. (I suppose it doesn't help that both of the other admins with server access are laying off of admining right now) Mmm, I was actually on last night, despite that I had a project I was working on. Big mistake, I ended up working half the night on it and still not finishing... as it is, I got a 0 on the presentation part of it... good thing that's only about 9% of the project grade. Speaking of which, I won't be around tonight unless I somehow magically finish my project sometime in the next hour or two.
  19. Yup, 81 weapons or 2 hats. Edit: I noticed another server was running cp_coldfront_rc2. We're running rc1. So, I have updated cp_coldfront to rc2 in our rotation. If you don't have it and don't want to wait to download it in game, you can find it here.
  20. His name appeared on the Admins' Reserved Slot request thread, but it still needs one more admin to approve it... it kind of got buried and ignored. I'm trying to bug some of the other admins now. Edit: Since both Brushfire and Darkesword have Toomz on their friends list, one of them could approve him... HINT, HINT.
  21. Yes, I'm ignoring the rest of your post for now and dealing with this specifically. If you don't allow them specifically, they're still allowed. Despite its named, pure_whitelist.txt is actually a blacklist. Anything not mentioned in it is implied to be allow_from_disk.
  22. Your whitelist also allows people to change the textures of walls, etc... i.e. to make them transparent. You seriously don't see that as a problem?
  23. While this is stronger on player models, it's weaker on sounds and HUD elements than the standard whitelist, which blocks changes to the sounds and materials (except the materials/players subdirectory) directories completely .
  24. Not to rain on your parade, but the screenshots in those images show a non-working client, including a "login window" that looks nothing like the Steam login window (which uses Webkit these days, so it should be identical across platforms... Mac Beta users could confirm this). Having said that, the url in one of the screenshots does exist. But that doesn't necessarily mean anything, because steam already has a command line version on Linux because of its dedicated server. P.S. This project is extremely boring, which is why I take any excuse to do something else, like answer forum posts.
