  1. Required updates for Team Fortress 2 are now available. The specific changes include:

    - Fixed a client crash caused by corrupt particle data

    - The Professor's Peculiarity can now be used as a crafting ingredient

    - Football Manager 2012 promo items are now tradable and available for purchase

    - Additional stability/performance work for both clients and servers

    - Updated localization files

    Updating TEST shortly.

  2. So who wants to lay odds on what day the Halloween update drops?

Thursday is their traditional day, but that would put the release only 4 days before halloween.

You are aware last year's event started on the 27th, 4 days before Halloween?

Granted, that *was* on a Wednesday, so the precedent could go either way.

  3. We're going to be launching some new Halloween content in the near future and wanted to give you all a quick heads-up. There will be random gift drops, but this year we are requiring that participants register their servers. If you choose not to register, you can still run the Halloween maps, but no gifts will drop on your server. By registering, your server will also be included in matchmaking, which will potentially drive traffic to you. Note that cheating or otherwise abusing the gift drop system will result in losing your registration, access to gift drops and other potential value-adds in the future.

Just a heads up. BLU/RED are registered, but TEST isn't. It will be shortly.

  4. Valve threw the switch on the Halloween event yesterday.

In addition to the stuff my Halloween plugin does, this should mean that haunted holiday presents are showing up on cp_manor_event.

I've updated the default map vote pool to switch out koth_harvest_final and cp_mountainlab for koth_harvest_event and cp_manor_event.

I'm also going to disable my Halloween plugin, just to make sure it doesn't interfere.

  5. So, my headset's Microphone finally broke.

I guess that's what I get for buying a cheap headset last time. I noticed that it was cracking like 6 months ago.

I ordered a new headset, but it won't arrive for like a week.

P.S. My new one will have noise cancellation... one that my last one didn't have and really needed.

  6. Required updates for Team Fortress 2 are now available. The specific changes include:

    - Improvements to client stability related to loading mesh content during gameplay

    - Fixed an engine error that mentioned CL_CallPostDataUpdates

    - Fixed "Not Usable in Crafting" text not appearing under certain conditions on item tooltips in the trading UI

Updating TEST now, RED/BLU should auto-update.

Edit: As of this time, all servers are updated except for my plugin test server.

  7. Very unlucky, unfortunately. The frequent crashes started with a patch Valve put out a couple of days ago, and one or two subsequent patches supposedly fixing the problem...well...didn't. I crashed twice earlier just sitting in a trade server and decided to call it a day. Hopefully they can get everything ironed out ASAP.

No, sadly those last two fixes were server-side fixes, and the second was just to fix the first (which caused servers to crash far more often than before due to introducing a new bug).

But yeah, last Thursday's update makes the game crash a lot. I crashed out twice last night and finally just went to bed.

  8. TEST is operational again.

SPEAKING of TEST, I feel we need to have more conversation about this.

People have been reporting periodic problems with TEST other than the problems Valve introduced in recent patches. Mostly where it basically drops everyone from the server, or where everyone's ping is suddenly is the 500+ range.

Additionally, I had my credit card number stolen just recently. I've only had this card for about 6 months. XFactorServers is the only company I've dealt with on this card that could be considered a "small" company, and I consider them the most likely to be the leak of this number.

In other words, expect to see yet another server soon to replace TEST, but I'm not sure where yet.

  9. An optional update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. Please run hldsupdatetool to receive the updates. The specific changes include:

    - Fixed a server error about unprecached models

    - Fixed a problem where the Sniper Rifle wouldn't damage sticky bombs

    Applying to TEST now.

TEST is now back up and running.

  10. TEST seems to have crashed. Lost the connection just now on Doublecross, 4 players total were on at the time. (One had just joined.)

Valve's update earlier today has a bug loading some models, mostly hats and the like. Valve's Henry Goffin says they're working on it.

P.S. The edits to my previous post mention that there's a bug in this update and that TEST was updated (and thus crashy), while BLU/RED aren't.

  11. Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

    - Fixed a frequent server crash related to packfiles

    - Fixed the following items not being able to be used in the Rebuild Headgear recipe: Lo-Fi Longwave, Loyalty Reward, Spiral Sallet, Summer Shades, Scout Flip-Flops, Lucky No. 42, Summer Hat, Killer Exclusive, Ball-Kicking Boots, Merc's Pride Scarf, Manniversary Paper Hat

Strangely, this wasn't announced on the TF2 server mailing list.

TEST has been updated and restarted. BLU and RED haven't yet updated.

Edit: Reports are coming in to the dedicated list that the update introduced a new crashing bug. BLU and RED will remain running the old version until further notice. BLU's password is "ocremix"

  12. I forgot to mention it, but there was a TF2 update earlier today.

An optional update for Team Fortress 2 is now available. The specific changes include:

    Team Fortress 2:

    - The Mannniversary Sale has ended, though Manniversary Packages will continue to drop for a short time

    - The Mannniversary Paper Hat is no longer craftable

    - Removed the painterly filter option on Decal Tools

    - Added loading screen tooltip about the new abuse reporting system

    - Added a default key binding for filing an abuse report (F7)

    - Fixed a common in-game client crash

    - Fixed a client crash when opening the loadout screen

    - Fixed a client crash related to sniper dots

    - Fixed a server crash that occurred when running both SourceTV and Replay

    - Fixed high five taunts applying the wielded weapon's taunt effect

    - Fixed "Cannot Craft" text not appearing on certain item tooltips

    - Updated localization files

    Steam Workshop:

    - Fixed not being able to retrieve Steam Workshop items if any item had been deleted

    - Increased Steam Workshop preview image size from 256x256 to 512x512

Also, Valve's Tony Paloma (aka Druken F00l) has already stated they plan to have another TF2 update tomorrow to address some crash issues on both clients and servers.

  13. I must be the only one who doesn't have that many hats/miscs. I have exactly three non-event/achievement hats (one of which I had to trade for) and no misc items.

Anyway, I wanted to ask: what servers do people play on when the OCR ones are empty? It seems like every time I want to play recently, there's no one on the OCR servers, and I could use a good place to hang out when that's the case.

I tend to play on some of Reddit's TF2 servers... Great Lakes or Midwest.

  14. Can we set tf_allow_taunt_switch to 1 or 2? :D

There aren't really any plans to change it at this time.

One thing that we have changed is the icon hiding thing.

Also, Valve has said they plan on pushing a TF2 client update out to fix the crashing problems.

  15. HUGE update just hit. The Manniversary Update.

RED will update autmatically, but TEST will not. I'll try to update it from here (I'm not at home).

Required updates for Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike: Source, Day of Defeat: Source and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch are now available. Counter-Strike: Source has also been moved to use its own engine and dedicated server depots. Because of this, dedicated server files for Counter-Strike: Source will now be under a 'css' folder.

    The specific changes include:

    Source Engine Changes (CS:S, DoD:S, TF2, HL2:DM)

    - Fixed an issue with the multi-threaded renderer which could cause a crash on map change

    - Adjusted whitespace to improve formatting in status command output

    - Changed stats output to show KB/s instead of bytes/sec, added a connections column, and changed the users column to "Map changes"

    - Fixed game servers not being able to execute the retry command due to the dependence on the connect command (which is not executable by game servers)

    - Made sndplaydelay executable by servers

    - Server frame rate is now based on the tickrate of the active Source mod, not the fps_max convar

    - Server processing delays have been reduced, especially for servers on modern Linux kernels

    - Entity processing logic has been optimized to significantly reduce CPU usage on full servers

    - Multi-threaded server code is now enabled by default under Linux (already enabled on Windows)

    - An exploit with non-printable characters causing lag on Windows servers has been fixed

    - CPU is fully yielded back to the system whenever the server is running faster than the tickrate

    - Dramatic increase in performance for low-level math libraries

    Day of Defeat: Source

    - Removed tickrate command line parameter

    - Updated the localization files

    - Decreased accuracy while moving with sniper rifles

    - Added additional legacy mode (3) to cl_dynamiccrosshair

    - Updated the localization files

    - All items purchased in the store can be used for crafting and can be traded after a few days

    - Added a new startup music track from Meet The Medic

    - Integrated with the new Steam Workshop to enable the publication and management of community contributed content

    Items:

    - Pocket Medic can now be equipped by the Soldier in addition to the Heavy

    - World Traveler's Hat and the Connoisseur's Cap are now paintable

    - Bonk Boy and Foster's Facade are now misc slot items

    - Fixed The Director's Vision not playing animations correctly for all classes in the loadout screen

    - The Killer Exclusive is now paintable

    - When sorting the backpack, otherwise-equivalent items will sort by strange weapon rank and crate series number if possible

    - When selecting items from the loadout, weapons with different kill eater ranks will all show up

    - Hat of Undeniable Wealth And Respect animations have been added. Really.

    - LOD models added to several older cosmetic items

    Response Rules:

    - Reduced the chance of many response lines occurring

    - Responses related to cart progress no longer play when disguised

    - Players will now always call for a medic when low on health or when on fire when a medic is under the crosshair, whereas previously the character would ask the medic to follow them

    - Named base items will no longer trigger responses that were supposed to be for new item variants

    - Added additional Jarate hit responses

    - Demoman:

    - Added achievement award response

    - Removed "I didn't need your help y'know" line if being healed by a Medic

    - Saxxy kills will use the same lines as kills from the frying pan

    - Added a taunt for The Ullapool Caber

    - Engineer:

    - Sniper:

    - Reduced chattiness when getting many sequential kills

    - Added a missing line to the scoped revenge response

    - Taunting with a Saxxy no longer play lines that reference a knife

    - Soldier:

    - Added a line to the getting übercharged response

    - Taunting with the Righteous Bison, Battalion's Backup, or the Saxxy now play the Buff Banner taunt

    Bots:

    - TFBots have a percentage chance of noticing weapon fire based on their difficulty level. Easy bots are fairly oblivious, and Expert bots notice pretty much everything.

    - TFBots now treat certain weapon attacks as "quiet" (Spy knife, cloaking/uncloaking, some melee weapons, fists, etc). "Quiet" weapons can only be heard by TFBots when nearby, and their chance of being noticed is halved if the environment is "noisy" (ie., lots of non-quiet gunfire going on in the area). This greatly improves Spies ability to backstab TFBots without the entire team immediately turning on them.

    - Spy bot improvements:

    - Spy bots are much better about circling around and backstabbing their victims now

    - Improved Spy bot target selection in some situations (ie: clusters of sentries and enemy players)

    - Spy bots will give up on an attack and retreat if an enemy sentry gun aims at them

    - Spy bots now avoid nearby enemies while disguised and/or cloaked so they don't bump into them and give themselves away

    - Spy bots now have a simple notion of when their "cover is blown" now

    - Spy bots lead their target's position as they chase them down for a backstab now

    - Spy bots don't go after victims until setup time has elapsed

    - Hard and Expert Spy bots avoid looking at their prey until they get close and go for the stab

    - Easy Spy bots don't avoid enemies, or try to get behind before stabbing

    - Normal Spy bots don't avoid enemies

    - Fixed bug where Spy bots would jump against the enemy spawn gates during setup time

    - Medic bot improvements:

    - Medic bots stick much closer to running patients now

    - Medic bots stick much closer to their patient if they have an Ubercharge ready, or are deploying their Uber

    - Medic bots hide from Sentryguns now, too

    - Pyro bot improvements:

    - Pyro bots are less "pushy" with their compression blast, but will use it against Ubers and to get enemies off of a capture point

    Other:

    - Razer Hydra support can be enabled via "sixense_enabled 1" in the console. See http://sixense.com/tf2 for details.

    - Added "tf_allow_taunt_switch". Set to 0 for disallowed (default behavior), 1 for old bug behavior, or 2 to allow weapon switching any time during the taunt.

    - Screenshots can now be hooked up to the Steam Community automatically. There is a new option to control this under "Miscellaneous" in the Advanced Options page.

    - Fixed gold ragdolls playing custom death animations when they should be locked in a pose

    - Fixed Buffalo Steak Sandvich not having a cooldown if the Heavy is at full health.

    - Fixed touching a cabinet while under the effects of the Buffalo Steak Sandvich removing the mini-crits but not removing the melee weapon restriction

    - Fixed particle effects not showing up on spy disguise items

    - Fixed spies never using genuine, community, or self-made items as disguise weapons

    - Fixed demoman weapons primary/secondary being backwards in the loadout screen

    - Fixed effects on Sticky Jumper grenades

    - Fixed game servers not being able to execute the retry command

    - Renamed tf_show_voice_icons to mp_show_voice_icons

    - Updated the localization files

Edit: I can't appear to update TEST from here.

BLU's password is "ocremix" as I recall, if you guys really want to use it.

  16. Today's update has been pushed back a day.

An update moved back to TF2's normal "big update" day of the week? Hmm...

    On another subject:

I've discovered some new bugs in my nearly complete TF2 voting extension that I need to iron out. I realized earlier today why it was crashing the server on vote end (yay). Then I discovered something that will likely make it crash when a player casts a vote (boo).

The code to send the vote to players is a mess and needs to be cleaned up in order to fix the previously mentioned crash on vote end. Also, revoting isn't working (and likely won't in the initial release).

    What is working:

    1. Displaying the vote on the screen with appropriate options.

    2. Displaying the running vote leaders at the bottom of the screen (like SourceMod does).

SourceMod 1.4 is just around the corner, so I may need to rework some of the code for this extension and its associated plugin (dubbed TF MapChooser).
