omg. stfu Shan. Nobody wants to hear your fancy muzak theory roffzlz, jk. a/s/l? The first thing that hits me is that all the intstruments are at the same volume. There's little to no heirarchy of sound. EQ that shiznit. Especially at the bridge, where the drums overpower the improv of the piano by a lunar margin. Everything else sounds really nice, but that EQ stuff is a dealbreaker for me. If you can create a pleasant range of sound, I'd okay it. But for now, you get the soulcrushing NO

OCR01379 - *YES* Unreal Tournament 'Club Showdown' *RESUB*
The wingless replied to Liontamer's topic in Judges Decisions
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuunstoppable. Interesting sidenote, Wingless has just about every Unreal (Unreal, Unreal Tournament, Unreal Tournament 2003, Unreal Tournament 2004, Unreal Championship 2) except for Unreal Championship 1 and Unreal II, which as we U fans all know, roundly sucks. I can't remember (and/or probably never heard) the original submission, but this is very nice. You've got a nice, complicated texture, but things are so tightly compact that everything negiotiates in your ear *perfectly*, it's deep, without sounding cluttered. Normally, I ain't down with voice clips in-media, but it doesn't detract from the song, and the outro from the clip is very nice. All in all, very very nice. Fanboi'sm comes alive in this song! YES omg. Unreal-bias -

you try my patience! MAKE YOUR CHOICE!

That Bastardman stole my idea of using the "Oh I'm Aurora and I'm bored and too terribly preoccupied at my seminar to care about VGDJ" yawn as a pseudo orgasm. But I'm sure there were a lot of would-be Auroramixer's who figured that. As for being the front runner in the Aurora dating race: Don't know much about History Don't know much about Biology Don't know much about the Science Books Don't know much about the french I took But I do know that I love you And I know that if you love me too What a wonderful world this would be p.s. YOU RESPECT AURORA! She is a dazzling light upon which we are shepherded from the darkness of ignorance and hatred. She is the sun by which we are all sheltered and caressed in her glorious embrace. She is a wonderful human being and she deserves our respect, our awe, and our love.

Mention my website, the new song therein, and how you'll be helping me with song and web stuff in the future because you miss me like the deserts miss the rain.

OCR01374 - *YES* Mega Man X4 'The Father of All'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
dubz! Lots of variation on both melody and drumbsbz. Nice auxiliary instrumentation. Good stuff all around. Even a tempo switch-up. Hell, I'm impressed. YES -
If the mainmelody actually varied to some degree, I think the overlapping EQ problem would be an issue. Or maybe it's these speakers, but it's not that big a deal for me. I like the arrangement. Conservative. Sure. Repetative? Certainly. But it works. I'm going to YES it, though if a vast majority of my peers suggest a resubmition with better EQ, then I default to their divine wisdom.

*N/A - NEW POLICY* Xenogears 'A Star Freezes Over'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Xenogears: Kenny G's Saga As for the schmalztiness, I think that's wholly intentional, if I "get it" like I think I'm supposed to. It sounds like a cross between a KG album and a 90's TGIF sitcom themesong. And yes, THESE ARE ALL GOOD THINGS. Production ain't bad enough to make me hold it back. I like the different energies that the different genre-specific instruments bring. I like it lots. YES Desparado... you better let somebody love you... Let somebody loooooooooooooove you -
*NO* Super Castlevania 4 'Lord Dracula'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I like the buildup and the textures created, but that jump Israfel pointed out is so unsatisfying. Unsatisfying in the sense that it has the potential to be so very cool, but is only allowed a nanosecond of breadth. It really inspires a look of WTF, though the moment is so short lived, I'm sure the audience will wonder if it was the song, or part of their own errant imagination. NO -longer -that *Random* section either needs to be -deleted -integrated FULLY into the piece (such that if you removed it, the song would be destroyed like a house of cards) -
Biff... you get your DAMN hands off her!

This face and demeanor do not belong with the voice I hear through my speakers Dissilussionment [sic], thy name is David Lloyd edit: grammarz

You cockney gits gonna sit around and eat maple syrup, talk about healthcare, and fill out your Mountie applications while butchering the word, "About"? /mean!

Then allow me to do a MGS parody! sonic? SONIC? SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONIC!!! (doot doot doot doot!)
-
The intro volume needs to be above the "only subatomic quarks in a vaccuum can hear" level. And my compatriots are right in their criticisms. It sounds like a midi-rip, but with new queztuqatol-VII gigasamplez. Too much like the original, and yet, somehow more ragged than the original with samples that have not been tailored well to the song. NO

*NO* Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow 'Men in Black Pants'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
well first of all, kudos on the clever usage of Gmail. Mayhap Pretzel should bring this up somewhere on the site. But first, how about some legal-eez? What's our policy on stuff that sounds like other stuff off of major hollywood soundtracks? Say, I don't know, Men in Black. And let's further suppose that the recreation of Danny Elfman's signature sound is so cleverly reproduced as to call into question some issue of copyright. Sure, you say to yourself, we do that sort of thing all the time. Ah, but that's video gamey stuff, not hollywoody stuff. I don't want Morgan Freeman comin' down on my ass with all the fury of MPAA hell. And now, something different. (assuming Neil Shaprio gives us the green light) I really like this piece. The spirit of Danny Elfman and his hideous Bridgetroll daughter live on in this song. Great dynamics, texture, and all around -emotion-. I'm all for it, cause that's the men in- that's the men in- men in black. yes -
*NO* Star Fox 'Sergeant Zim's Starfox Squadron'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
I'm all leik, "where tf is teh song? lozl" and Virt's like, "PwNt. Tiemfor more chiptoonz" My first issue is with the *radical* perversion of the source material. There are liberal mixes and then, there's this. And coming from me, that's a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge statement. My second issue are the sound clips (FMJ?) that really seem jarringly out of place and don't really add a *whole* lot to the piece. NO --make the song sound like, oh I dunno, Starfox. lolz --Either new clips, or no clips. Just not *these* clips.
