OCR01376 - *YES* Sonic & Knuckles 'Lava Reach'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
Sweet Ass-tapping Columbo, this is a long song. So I'm last and everything's been said, and it's all been done, and other assorted Barenaked Ladies songs. So suck on this, and enjoy A vast majority of good stuff > a craptacular ending the end yes -
But I don't know nothing 'bout no Tales of Symphonia or... the other one.

Welcome to last season! lolzz www.thewingless.com

On another aside: DO BUY Unreal Championship2. It will take you awhile to acclimate to the controls, but once you've gotten them down, it's Crouching Tiger with plasma-based weaponry. Makes the Master Chief handle like Abe Vagoda.

ehh, who needs yah

This song perplexes me ideologically. Consider, for but a moment, how stark the source material is. Descent 1's intro theme doesn't have a lot going for it in and of itself. Ideologically, we as judges want you to go above and beyond the source material; to make it your own. The question, then, is how much can you add, given such stark source material? It's the musical equivalent of divide by zero. In any event, I'm wrestling with the idea of what is enough addition. Is it an absolute? Is it a relative? Since these are difficult questions I pose, I'm going to skip the philosophical bombast in the closet and just focus on what I *do* know. I like it for what it is: quasi-trance. I don't think it's supposed to be a Wham! Make it Big! developmental piece. I think it's supposed to undulate and slowly rise and fall like the movements of a serpent. And, in this regard, I think it really works. YES now, to be discredited by my peers!

I'm excited in all the right places! Time for another creepy mix that is not appreciated in its own time, but slowly creeps into cult-fandom and is adored by emo's, freaks, nerds, and other social outcasts the world over.

Oh sure, now that it's hip to listen to, why don't you just jump on the Auroramix bandwagon. You posers make me sick

OCR01371 - *YES* EarthBound 'Battling Organs'
The wingless replied to djpretzel's topic in Judges Decisions
J-j-judge Mazedude? I can't. It's like judging Jordan on his dunk, Tiger on his stroke, and Peter North on his range. I... I CAN"T! And yet, here we are. So, from what I'm hearing, the biggest problem is the wonky ending? I *agree* to a certain degree. With so much delightfully irreverant music theory in the majority of the piece, a fade-out ending is a bit perplexing, if not inexcusable. But I think even the great Gods of our OCR Pantheon need to adhere to the same rules as the damn dirty noobs. Fix the ending, a proper English ending, and you'll get posted, same as everyone else 'round here Resubmit -
For all the drama that's being insisted upon by you, the artist, the string in the beginning it's really f'n loud and devoid of some dynamic change. I'm not talking about 'omg, get more gigzzsmaplz!', I'm talking about taking the care to suspend our disbelief that, even though this is not a real string, it has the emotional backing of one. There are also really odd and jarring jumps in dynamics. The sound is a bit hollow too, as if you're missing a few key registers and/or a different *something* within the piece to add some movement. The crescendo section near the latter 3rd is also a might sloppy. Just because things get loud don't mean they can't be in formation NO Do what I sez

The first that occurs to me are EQ issues. They don't make a whole lot of sense. The lead is way too subdued in parts, and all the auxillary tracks take the fore. Some of the instrument choices are weird too, lending themselves to very bizarre textures of sound. Even if this is how you meticulously planned it, it's not satisfying to the ear. Leads go in the front, aux's go in the back. It's been this way since before the Bugger Wars (omg, Scott Card reference, lozlzz) NO -Fix up the EQ -figure out a system that's much more satisfying to the ear -then BE CONSISTENT with it!

I hear that harmonic discoupling that Vigi hears, though I'm not going to be quite so... ah... sequipedalian with my elucidation of it. Yeah. That being said, I really enjoy the production values and overall cleanliness (harmonies nothwithstanding) of the piece. But there's a complaint about too many adherence to the source material. I'm wondering if that little superfluous jam session in the middle couldn't serve the song better by doing something with the themes. Also, consider doing something with the melody in other segments to keep it fresh and not so, as we say in the business, rehashed. Oh, and a flute ending? Explain your ass! NO -Consider doing *more* with the source material -variation -development -addition -whatever -General cleanup with synths

Phat b33tz to enable. You may fire when ready. Like everybody else has said, it sounds like a foundation layer... as if the entire piece is there to cushion some vital *Something*, be it vocals, a dynamic lead, anything. Right now, it's remarkably hollow in the sense that the available tracks can't hold the piece up by itself. The piece can't stand on its own, and you gotta fix dat, yo. NO add *soooooooomething* as a lead

Jesus fucking Christ I'm bored (which is appalling, given the amount of work I have to do) Auroramix(omg2hawt4u).mp3 p.s. I can't tell if this is cute or creepy. But it shall certainly allay all doubts of my tenuous grasp on sanity.

You know it occurs to me if, somewhere down the line, you breach the top 10 mark, that's alot of pressure. The kind of pressure that would make you flee to South Africa in a wet panic, leaving your adoring fans wondering in an atavastic stupor as to your whereabouts. And all around, the world turns on its axis in a nervous whirl, awaiting the words that will ease its mad dance, "Aurora took her top off on the radio." p.s. I vot'd for teh Rayza's show again!

Don't touch WIP. Wayyy to many problems inherent in trying to showcase that. Instead, more random movie and tv sound clips.
