Electronic Samurai Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 This is fantastic. It's a 3-part feature-length musical sung from the perspective of a mad scientist villain, directed by...wait for it...Joss Whedon! The first 3 episodes are already available on the site - the last one will be aired July 19th, and then all three will be taken down on the 20th. Quote
Chimaera Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 I saw the first episode the other day, it's really slow, and Doogie Howser looks a little worse for wear, but it really picks up when Nathan Fillion jumps in. I'll check out the 2nd one when I get home from work. I hope for a dramatic improvement in the overall story (instead of a 6 minute mono-blog from Doogie) in Act II. However if you don't catch it by the 20th don't worry since on the site Whedon says he'll release it on DVD at some point in the future. Quote
Yoshi3gg Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 It starts out kind of slow (the "video blog" portion feels forced and awkward - just like most video blogs, I suppose, haha) but once the first song starts it really picks up. Only other complaint is that Penny (played by the awesome Felicia Day from The Guild) is kind of a one-dimensional character. Other than that, I'm absolutely loving it, and can't wait for Act 3. And really, how could I say no to anything with Nathan Fillion in it? Quote

Electronic Samurai Posted July 18, 2008 Author Posted July 18, 2008 Wrong forum and there's already a thread.http://www.ocremix.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17256 ARGH mine came first! Quote
Dhsu Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 If by first you mean more than 24 hours later than mine! I don't see this being feature length though. Each act has been pretty short, so when it's finished it'll probably be 45 minutes tops. Quote
Chimaera Posted July 18, 2008 Posted July 18, 2008 Saw Act II last night, it DEFINITELY picked up after the slow start in the first. Nathan Fillion could be such a jerk if he really wanted to Dialogue's better, feels less forced even when Dr. Horrible does his 'blog' entries, I like the intermixed parts of the dual-core "Becoming more evil/Rapturous" piece, I can't wait till the 3rd part comes out now. Hopefully the 3rd part will be long enough to justify getting this on DVD at some point in the future. Quote
Dhsu Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 If you call a duet "dual-core" again you are banned from the Internet! Quote
Shadow Wolf Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Yeah, it's pretty much amazing. Best line in the series thus far: "Balls." Quote
Imagist Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Wrong. It's: "These are not the hammer............ .... .. The hammer is my penis." Quote
Maco70 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Late on the draw, but I just stumbled across this series. I thought it was amazing, and was happy that the ending was not cliche like I thought it would be. Excellent. Quote
Dhsu Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 That's kinda funny because Whedon was specifically going for cliche. Quote
Maco70 Posted September 30, 2008 Posted September 30, 2008 Really? I thought cliche would have been if there was a happy ending, or if Dr. Horrible had a change of heart at the last minute (became a good guy). I was genuinely surprised at the ending. Quote
Maco70 Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001M5UDGS DVD out December 19th. I might buy it, I enjoyed the movie enough to support these guys. Quote

I'll definitely get this... I hope there'll be some good extras. Wouldn't mind if it came with the soundtrack, too. And it has twenty 5-star reviews already. KF Quote
djpretzel Posted December 1, 2008 Posted December 1, 2008 CRIKEY, MATES! USE THE OCR AMAZON STORE! http://www.ocremix.org/amazon/?id=/detail/B001M5UDGS/ This... is not the hammer Quote
Maco70 Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 CRIKEY, MATES! USE THE OCR AMAZON STORE! Wait, how does it work? I thought it just meant you were a seller. Sucks since I just bought all of my Christmas gifts from regular amazon... Wouldn't mind if it came with the soundtrack, too. The soundtrack is available on itunes and amazon. Buy it, and love it. DJMetal Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 My friends all rave about this movie, but all that raving has really turned me off to it. I'll probably see it at some point...but after getting serenaded by some questionable individuals, it will be a while. Quote
Less Ashamed Of Self Posted December 2, 2008 Posted December 2, 2008 CRIKEY, MATES! USE THE OCR AMAZON STORE!http://www.ocremix.org/amazon/?id=/detail/B001M5UDGS/ This... is not the hammer TO; stop using djp's account. Also; I heard there's going to be 'commentary the musical'... it will be interesting to see how that doesn't clash with the feature itself. Quote
SwordBreaker Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 If I'm not mistaken, the people involved in VOCR3 told me about this through one entry. I need to check this out later. Quote
Hy Bound Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 That was awesome. I have to say, I've recently thought Joss Whedon has been slightly overrated (I mean Firefly was outstanding, but otherwise?) but this made me realize how good he really can be. Also, I have a huge man-crush on Nathan Fillion... He's just so awesome. ...Anywho... To the people who have been reluctant to see it: Its not god's gift to man, but it really is pretty excellent, especially considering what it has to compete with. Quote
Beatdrop Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 The best thing about it is that it was funded entirely by cast and crew. No production studio had its hands on this whatsoever. The actors involved weren't even initially paid for their contributions, if I remember correctly. So, yeah, awesome. And yeah, I'm in agreement with Hy Bound here. If I were a woman, I'd be part of Nathan Fillion's trio of groupies in the third part of this. Quote
Maco70 Posted December 4, 2008 Posted December 4, 2008 So, yeah, awesome. And yeah, I'm in agreement with Hy Bound here. If I were a woman, I'd be part of Nathan Fillion's trio of groupies in the third part of this. One of the groupies was a guy. Also: ♥ Felicia Day Quote
