How do I get more than 3 gigs for sample libraries? I have a 64 bit OS if that matters. Is there anyway to use all 6 of my gigs? Zircon, I know you said you were building an 8 gig machine a while back. How do you use all 8?

I pmed zircon and there is this thing called jbridge. Maybe once that gets the kinks out, it will work.

edit: as of now, I do not want to run 64 bit DAW because all my plugs are 32 bit.

there's programs out there that can assist with this - http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower

all programs can access a restricted amount of ram - so...if you are able to open say a stand-alone kontakt and link it to your DAW then you potentially have another 2-4 gigs that can be accessed - plus i'm told it's snappier

there are other programs that will allow you to do this - just have to look to around

Jbridge is superior to any other solution, since it literally just runs the VST outside of your host's memory space while maintaining the actual link. ie. no virtual audio cables or MIDI yoke needed, it automatically does all that for you - saves with your project, opens with your project, renders offline.

Interesting... Here I've only been using soundflower to do audio caps while doing screen caps with my DAW.

something to remember is that no application can access more than a certain amount of RAM. like, in 32-bit there's a limit of 2000mb, and in 64-bit there's a limit that i don't remember off the top of my head (i think it's 3000mb, but don't quote me on it).

That's why you use Jbridge which creates new instances of itself, thus bypassing the limitation. Of course you can't go above 3.5gb in 32bit but in 64 it's unlimited. Furthermore in 64 you can definitely have one app accessing more than 3gb.. way more.

Can anyone vouch that this Jbridge works reliably? I primarily use FL Studio and occasionally Sonar. If it works with Kontakt and East West plugins I will be happy to drop some money for it.

I don't use Vista; in fact, I hate Vista. Right now I'm using XP32, though I have an XP64 partition installed. I haven't tried Jbridge on x64 but I know it's programmed for that also. It works fine with XP32, and no, there's no limit to how many you can run - it's just based on your max memory and RAM available.

I am trying the sonar 8 x64 demo, and I am thrilled with it. The only thing I miss is FL's weird peak controller, but sonar has a different way of sidechaining. Oh and omg the interface in sonar is like a dream compared to FL. I am waiting to see how reaper's bit bridge (coming out soon I think?) will fare. I might upgrade to reaper instead.
