How do you shrink your LONG tracks?

Im working on a mix right now but I'm curious. I'm trying to make it submitable on OCremix. The song is about 5 minutes long and at 192Kbit it's over the 6mb requirement.

My question is, aside from editing down the track or mixing it down in smaller Kbps, how can you get the MP3 lower in MBs and still retain it's quality?

is there even another way possible?

Use VBR. Also, most tracks don't suffer much ill effect being downsampled to 160 kbps or so.

I downloaded a converter and in the encoding options it asks for a max and minimum bitrate. should i put both at 160 or so? or should i set a gap at some rate?

Making the two numbers different implies that a variable bit rate (VBR) is being used to encode the track. If you were to make the range from say, 150-170 kbps, it might end up a bit smaller in size than if you just did 160-160 (constant bit rate), but I'm not certain. If you put 160 in both and your file comes in under the 8 MB limit, you're good to go.

My FF7/Xenogears mix was originally like 9 minutes long. Hated having to cut that down, will never do it again just to sub to OCR.
