behind it, how it was made, etc.

-Always loved the DOOM soundtracks, and knew I'd get around

to them one day. I don't think I'm done with them either. When I ought

a Pod HD500 I figured I'd give this song a try to demo some new

sounds; after finishing it, it sat 6 months in a completed state

before I finally decided I was unhappy with the way the HD500 sounded.

Plugged in my old Pod XT and rerecorded the entire thing with my usual

patches -- albeit slightly tweaked to eliminate fizz in my previous

tunes. This makes the OCR version almost completely different from my

youtube version; including band new riffs. Only three parts still

exist using the HD500; the intro sound effects were actually an

octaver set down ridiculously low, and the low B on my 7 string tuned

down to G or something. I hit random notes on it and scraped the

string to get the ambient sound effects; I almost envision it as the

sound a deserted ancient ship would make deep within its hull. The

others consist of the very first distorted guitar riff (before the

death scream) and the clean guitar during the spoken dialogue. I

actually have no idea what patch I used for the clean and I am sadface

because it's my favorite clean I've ever had.

Bonus points to whomever can ID the spoken word dialogue without using google.

The intro wasn't super well integrated with the track, but it was ok; Once the song started it was pretty good; nice rhythm gallops, but not a lot of expansion. Beyond some extra riffing, it's basically guitar chords and some organ. The vocal clips helped make it a little more interesting, but the arrangement tended to feel like it was missing a melody, and was otherwise treading water. There was rhythmic variations in the guitars, but I am feeling like there is a crucial element missing from the track; the organ was mixed pretty low, and there was a little bit of synth later on in the track, but not very much.

Overall this sounds to me like a very strong WIP, but a WIP nonetheless. Polish it up a bit and send it back! :-)

Going to have to agree with Andrew on this one; this feels like it's missing a big melodic element overall. I know a lot of the source is similar, but the source uses the organ chords more forefront as a melodic element, and later on there is the guitar soloing as well.

Overall super great mood, and I don't mind the quote, but I'd like more.

Yeah, I've gotta concur here. I remember hearing the same issues with this arrangement when I last checked it out, it just didn't feel quite complete. The source usage is there, but the song doesn't really feel complete, even during the times when there's some sort of lead instrument playing. There's a few synth parts in there that might fit that bill, but those are way too buried in the rhythm guitars to really help :-S Some cool atmospherics and adaptation from the source, but it's not really fleshed out enough as a standalone song to really do it for me.

Also, get a clean fade on your outro.
