Fishy Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Also any attempt at this is incredibly redundant: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_popular_music_genres Quote
SonicThHedgog Posted December 30, 2011 Author Posted December 30, 2011 It's spelt 'genre'. Fixed. Did not notice I dont see any Genre threads around, and I mean a smaller list of common Genres, not wiki large by not means. Quote
Book Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 ...why are we doing this again? For the people who can't choose and look for examples on video sites. Quote
Rozovian Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I mean a smaller list of common Genres Emphasis mine. That's a small list? Common genres? Also, Jump by VanHalen is hardly a genre. Better than a controlled genre thread, just post cool tracks of similar styles/genre with a different style/theme for each post. Just a thought. Quote
AngelCityOutlaw Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 What's the point in "Genre" labels really. It's all rock, and it's all eletronic. So I call it that. I mean, with Metal and Eletronica especially, there is so many different labels and I can hardly tell the difference between most of them. Like I still can't figure out what makes "house" different from "techno". The only sub-genres in eletronic music that stand out to me is "trance". Quote

I will emphasis what I mean in one min when I get back from the super market. Yes thats a good idea to show examples (when I wake um in the morning (1;09am Fri) I could not classify jump A small list of common sub genres with out having to look to far, and it is a music board so why not show some examples of diffrent types of music For the people who can't choose and look for examples on video sites. Sort of that too! Quote
SonicThHedgog Posted January 5, 2012 Author Posted January 5, 2012 Updated I'll update op as much as I can Quote
Garpocalypse Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Subdivisions in music are a bit of a beefage of mine. Look at metal. The music inspires lower brain activity for sure and you can see evidence of that by looking at all the loosely defined divisions of metal. People like to draw lines and say what is and what isn't. I'll listen to anything that's not dumb-chick-dumb-chick-dumb-chick for 20 minutes. Sorry I was really hoping to contribute here but it didn't come out that way. Take down the lines and everybody hug/punch each other. Whatever works for you. Quote
