Do you share or sell music remixes?

Do you use characters or themes from other media in your work?

We want to learn more about how remixers, fan creators, and other artists are sharing and interacting online, especially in the context of copyright law, and we want to hear from Overclocked Remix!

We are offering compensation in the form of a $6 Amazon gift card for study participants!

If you would be willing to share your experiences in a one-hour interview over the phone or instant messenger, please respond here or contact lead researcher Casey Fiesler at casey.fiesler@gatech.edu to set up an interview time.

(Mods, if you feel that this post is inappropriate for this subforum or the forums altogether, please feel free to move or delete it.)

Mogrunta, you don't necessarily have to be a music remix creator to participate. We are interested in interviewing all creators of remix content (think fanfiction, fanart, machinima, etc). If you've ever created any of those types of content or anything similar, I encourage you to get in touch with us!

I just finished being interviewed, and it was about as painless as you could imagine. The questions were quite thought provoking as well. I'd strongly recommend other remixers participate too, because this a fascinating topic of research.

Agreed, I know that I'm definitely going to look up some things, plus having a bigger sample size is more representative of the population, so do it already!

We still need more people to interview, so if you are interested in participating, please get in contact with us! If you have ever created remix content (music remix, machinima, fanfiction, fanart, and the like), then we would like to interview you!

I am not really a remixer (I have done a few but none for games) BUT I have made 2 Diablo 3 themed songs... because I play the game and like it. After the completion of each song, I was able to get one of them promoted on a really popular fan site known as (DiabloFans.com) and the other was promoted by the gaming company Blizzard themselves (Battle.net), which was really awesome. There are a lot of good methods of sharing your original music or remixes but having them promoted by fan sites or the actual company themselves has proved to be the best way to share and receive exposure that I have experienced.

Based on what I have seen, I don't think many (Game fan sites and Gaming companies) receive much fan made music so I think most of them are more than happy to share it when a producer goes out of there way to make some.
