Nostalvania Posted January 14, 2015 Share Posted January 14, 2015 (edited) Hi everyone! I'm currently working on a jazz remix of the shadowman theme. Here is what i've got so far (still unfinished). I'm not so sure about the transition at 1:32. Btw, my very first remix was also shadowman and i would say this probably sounds a little bit better than the first one (i hope) Source: http://youtu.be/OAwZS6Ksw0Q Remix: http://tindeck.com/listen/bwhj -Markus Edited February 16, 2015 by Nostalvania Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Emunator Posted January 17, 2015 Share Posted January 17, 2015 I don't think this counts as feedback, but... holy shit! You nailed it. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Nostalvania Posted January 26, 2015 Author Share Posted January 26, 2015 (edited) Updated version: http://tindeck.com/listen/kqyqb I changed a few minor things and added some more variation overall. Feedback is appreciated, especially on production. Thanks Emunator for listening/commenting. Edited January 26, 2015 by Nostalvania Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Gario Posted February 13, 2015 Share Posted February 13, 2015 MOD REVIEW Hmm... Well shit. This is a pretty amazing arrangement. You have a lot of fun with the source, practically reharmonizing the whole thing, yet sill retaining not only the sound, but the soul of the source. Very impressive arrangement. The production works well, too. Sometimes I feel the piano is a touch dry, but that might just be me. Otherwise, it's pretty much perfect, for what it is. Yeah, this will be a pretty easy pass on the panel. Go submit it, and very nice work! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I hear that occasionally in his mixes too, so it's probably not just you. But yeah, I know it'll almost pass on arrangement alone, and with this level of production, it'll be more than enough. I'll listen to this more thoroughly later, but this is sounding good even on a quiet cursory listen in a library. My only concern would be if it's too liberal. Source breakdown maybe? My only concern would be if it's too liberal. Source breakdown maybe? The source is all there, nearly note-for-note (in the melody, anyway). Focus on the melody line rather than the harmonization, as the harmonization is almost entirely different from the source. This track is not too liberal, no worries about that. timaeus222 Posted February 14, 2015 Share Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) Kay, after a closer listen, yeah, I think the piano could use a touch more reverb just to slightly hide that hard tone, but it's not a big deal. Source usage is there indeed, even in the piano chords. Rhythmically it's different, and obviously the harmonies are different, but the core bass line seems to be retained in the harmonies, so that connection is still there in parts where that's playing. Seriously amazing sense of harmonies, man. <3 So yeah, easy pass. Maybe a touch of reverb on that acoustic piano and we're even more set. timaeus222 Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 (edited) Later I'll give a source breakdown of what I thought matched up, just for that "faithful OC ReMixes" topic. Edited February 21, 2015 by timaeus222 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
NyxTheShield Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 I'll edit this post later, but I'll give a source breakdown of what I thought matched up, just for that "faithful OC ReMixes" topic. Dont worry i know the sources, i got them too (Bass line and melody are there note by note) Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
timaeus222 Posted February 20, 2015 Share Posted February 20, 2015 Dont worry i know the sources, i got them too (Bass line and melody are there note by note) Cool, though not everybody else "gets" it, so to speak, so it's clarification for those people. timaeus222 Posted February 21, 2015 Share Posted February 21, 2015 (edited) There we go. My official perception of this. :v) ReMix = Source (Times, Instrument) 0:00 - 0:22 = (0:03 - 0:09, Bass) 0:22 - 0:26, 0:28 - 0:32, 0:34 - 0:38, 0:40 - 0:44 = (0:09 - 0:20, Melody) + somewhat different intervals on the perfect 4th jump portion 0:44 - 1:06 = (0:03 - 0:09, Bass) 1:06 - 1:32 = (0:20 - 0:43, Melody) 1:32 - 1:37, 1:39 - 1:43 = (0:09 - 0:20, Melody) + somewhat different intervals on the perfect 4th jump portion 1:44 - 1:48 = (0:20 - 0:43, Melody, slight) 1:48 - 2:28 = Solo 2:28 - 2:38 != (0:20 - 0:43, Melody, vague resemblance though too different) 2:40 - 3:00 = (0:47 - 0:58, Melody) 3:03 - 3:14 = (0:03 - 0:09, Bass) 3:14 - 3:28 = (0:20 - 0:43, Melody) Total: 231 secs --> 22+4*4+22+26+5+4+4+20+11+14 = 144 secs 144/231 = 62.4% = good to go! Thanks for the detailed source breakdown, i would say it's pretty accurate. 2:28 - 2:38 is actually just a transition to the Eb major part at 2:40, but it has some slight resemblance of the melody, although unintended.
